Megabot is a side-scrolling action game that features game elements found in the Megaman games of old. Megaman 3, 4, and 5 were very big inspirations for me when I started making Megabot. I remember playing those good 'ol NES games and thinking to myself, "I could probably make something like this one day". Well now that I have the skills and resources to do so, I am doing just that. I love Capcom. This game can be considered a tribute to Capcom and old-school gaming.
The game was a very big project and quite complex. Programming games like this requires a lot of planning and decision making. The amount of thought that went into this game is tremendous. It is very similar to Megaman games, so fans will recognize the inspired graphics and gameplay. Not to mention a lot of old-school game tunes in MIDI format.
But don't be fooled. This is not just a simple Megaman clone. The game is similar yet very different. The general idea of destroying robots and machines and getting to the end of a level to defeat a robot master is pretty much the same. But then things change. Megabot doesn't run and jump. He rides and flies. Megabot is all about efficiency. He rolls on a single wheel and is capable of flying around with his jetpack. He doesn't have arms, but a multi-directional laser turret mounted inside his abdomen. He has upgrade capabilities which enable him to use nine unique weapons at will. And there's more.
Megabot's resources aren't free. There are 3 gauges which measure power levels for his energy, fuel, and laser charge. Did you think he could fly forever? Did you think he could shoot forever? No way bub. You have to monitor the fuel gauge and make sure you don't run out at a bad time. You also have the ability to self-destruct at will if you get stuck in a bad situation. Quite a useful feature actually.
You have to watch your laser charge gauge. Every time you shoot your laser, the meter will decrease. If you run out you won't be able to shoot anything. Don't fret. Megabot is built with efficiency remember? All you have to do is recharge the gauge by rolling your wheel. Innovative huh?
And what happens when your gauges never seem to be quite enough. Enemies will drop energy cells when they are destroyed. You will find all sorts of energy cells placed in levels. And you will find extra lives which give Megabot the ability to regenerate once more. And there are also upgrades which increase the maximum power level of each gauge. You will have to find these scattered throughout the levels.
Other upgrades include enhancements to your gauges. If you get the enhancer for the fuel gauge for instance, the fuel will not deplete as fast, allowing you to fly higher and farther for longer periods of time. Similar things will happen with other enhancers.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. There is so much gameplay in Megabot you won't believe it was made with Game Maker. All the extra touches like nice explosions, flying particles, and animated objects, add to the overall experience.
I hope you thoroughly enjoy playing the game as much as I enjoyed making it! Lots of surprises await! The game is a full length 100% complete FREEWARE game. If you like it, distribute by any means you like; just don't ask money for it. Enjoy!!!
