Mount Neverest (Ice Cold Beer sim)
My version of the "non-videogame" Zeke's Peak/Ice Cold Beer. I waited 20+ years for a simulation...so I had to do it!

Zeke's Peak and Ice Cold Beer were the same game by Taito with different backgrounds. You control the left side and right side of a rod with two up/down joysticks (keyboard in this case). A ball rests on the rod. Your goal is to tilt, raise, lower the rod to manuver the ball into progresivly harder lit holes before time runs out.

I tried to keep the game as accurate as I could. Feel free to compare this game to the original Zeke's Peak and Ice Cold Beer machines from like 1983 in screenshot 1.

Feel like a champ? The playfield seems "too easy?" Try the advanced mode with 25 more holes drilled in the board!

Very simple concept, but not that easy. Can you get to hole 10?

ORIGINAL ORIGINAL ORIGINAL !

Very good. I didn't like the sounds, and in my opinion you should have more 'balls' (lives). Because 3 is not enough to finish the game.

But, because this is thát original, you get a 10/10.. Really good.

Ummm... its not original, its a remake. He said so himself.
Anyway, its very good. Its difficult though - I think there should be more lives.

8/10

lol, yeah, he did kinda admit that it was a remake above...but...this game was decent. Very difficult though, but the sliding and such was cool, so 8/10.

Oh I'm sorry. I had to know that it's not thát original. (I could see it in screenshot 1 too)

:D

All right, it's an 8/10. So I'll rate it 6/10 now, to make my rating an 8 total. :D

I really liked it, it was very original and I personally like the controls. It kept me pretty amused for a while because it was so hard (but that was a good thing) The only problem I had with it was the graphics, I don't like having pictures as the background, but besides that good job! 8/10

Sorry about the extra balls not being there, but it was intentional sad to say. I only saw this game in two places. Once on vacation (Zeke's Peak) and at a resturant a couple years later. (Ice Cold Beer). On vacation I played it so much I got thru something like 178 holes and the machine broke down. (Bar started going whacko on it's own moving all over). The other one I got to something like hole 300 and just walked away from the machine. The real thrill is getting to hole 10 so I left it at 3 balls. (Hey, at least I took the "nudge" feature out of it. I hated that! Thanks guys.

Oh yeah...So far in this version I got past hole 39 in normal mode and past hole 9 in advanced. (Hole 10 is posible in advanced, but I only did it while "testing" by setting it for hole 10 when it started). So yes... it IS posible if you are doubting it. =)

I ment that if I can make it up the board 3 times to the last hole (10th) and make it another 9 holes the game difficulty should be fine where it is. (no extra balls). Otherwise you get too good at it and it will bore you. (Made it thru 59 holes last night on 3 balls so getting thru all 10 holes is posible with practice). That and it seems the difficulty (regurding how far I can get on three balls) is about the same that I could do on a real machie. If you can make it to hole 10 all the time, the game starts to loose it's apeal. (Thats why I added an even harder board as an option).

Hint...if it helps... The colision point of the ball with a hole is just a tiny little "+" sign in the middle of the ball sprite. So as long as that doesnt touch another hole you will live.

I've played the actual machine myself. My friend really likes this game. As for me, it does a good virtual job. But as my friend states there's nothing like interacting with the real thing.

Very good work bringing back a memory.

Yeah...can't beat the real thing. It was HARD trying to get the ball rolling like that for me. In reality, the bar in my version does absolutely nothing. No interaction with the ball at all. It's all equations I came up with on my own using the current ball.x position, the X and Y from two invisible objects on the ends of the rod, calculating increase / decrease of velocity depending on the angle, calculate Y for the ball where it would be on the rod, etc...that control ball movement. I "faked" it the best I could going by memory of the real thing. The bar is just lines drawn from the left side X,Y to the right side X,Y inrcementing Y a pixel for each line to change the color.
