Solar Man
Made for the 1st $200 Bi-Weekly Jam at the GMC.

You play as Solar Man and you carry a solar panel above your head. The giant laser cannon needs power and the only way to charge it up is by catching the Sun's powerful rays with your solar panel. You have to be quick though because if you don't charge it up in time, the enemies approach in bomb dropping helicopters and will destroy your defenses. Don't let the Sun's rays hit the surface!

Use the arrow keys to move and jump.

Okay, I liked the art, everything looked pretty nice. Music was nice too. Collisions felt annoying, and the concept of the gameplay is pretty basic, but interesting enough, I guess. Although I shouldn't expect much from a jam-game, I guess.

Oh, someone finally commented! Thanks for taking the time to play it, SMP. With more time I could have added much more variety to the game. I'm not sure it is worth going back and working on it again though.

It'd be wicked to see a full adventure game with these style graphics !!

No can do, magicdweedoo. I've got to focus my time on the RPG64D competition.

Glad you liked it though!

Hmm... Solar Man is a bit bare-bones, so I don't have much to say about it, other than... that Cannon is excellently Sprited! Thumbs up. Any problems could have been resolved with more production time, I'm sure. (Like the framerate. It seemed kinda choppy?)

Duckman, I'm gonna say some irrelevant things for a bit, if you don't mind. See, I first heard about your Plactoid game from "Charmeleon's Awesum Reviews" (which I'm sad to say has since closed down). I recall you said in response that you would (possibly) not be releasing another game. That is unfortunate.

I haven't played Plactoid but I realize you have talent. The 64digits competition is going to be intents, and I really do hope you stick around and release a game for it. You may not remember, but I was competing in the "Dan Jam" as well. It feels nice to have a familiar competitor around, you know? Don't bail on me, kid.

(Of course, you may have since changed your mind on game-releasing anyway, as you released Solar Man after Plactoid... but I'm just saying!)

Thanks, FamousJellyfish!

Well first off, I made that cannon using Fireworks and then I just decreased the amount of colours to make it suit the style of the game. I actually don't think it fits in with the rest of the game. Also, like I said before, this game could definitely be improved upon but I'm not willing to work more on this game just yet.

Strangely, after releasing Plactoid, I gained a renewed interest in game design. So now I may actually complete another full game, hopefully. You should play Plactoid, it is significantly better than this game.

Sorry, I don't remember you from the jam. Good luck in the competition though!

Mmm, nice graphics and music, but the gameplay was very minimal.

The graphics got me to play the game, but the game did not captivate me very much. :/
