Danse Machina Demo
*!NEW DEMO!*

Danse Machina is a top-down shooter, with an emphasis on story, action and interesting level design. The character can be outfitted with a myriad of different weapons and equipment to help in the game.

This is the tutorial demo of Danse Machina. It will allow you to play through the tutorial (which is quite fun and showcases a decent portion of the game). it has been full reworked since the last demo.

You can also catch a glimpse of the first level in the making. There isn't much to do yet, but it LOOKS cool. If you click on 'continue' from the main menu instead of new game, the first mission briefing will load. I recommend checking it out for the lovely effects.

Another new addition is an updated lighting engine, thanks to Geargod. The new Luminaire engine works much better, but if you are still having problems with low frame rates, try turning off lighting, debris or shadows. Any of those can really help speed things up.

Doesn't look like a work in progress demo but since it is here's a couple of comments:
1 pressing space for each new message is annoying because there's so many. I'd either just make them switch automatically and let the gameplay continue while they're being shown or show more text at a time.
2 the main character bounces off walls too hard making it hard to move in narrow tunnels and making gameplay worse.
3 the level graphics could be more interesting...

Other than that great. I'm voting 8 because I like the atmosphere of this game a lot.

The text thing is pretty awesome, but now that spectre mentions it, it'd be cool to be able to move around while the text is there...But meh, it's fine either way. =P
The lighting, graphics, and effects are awesome as well. Really not much I can say about it.
Also, I agree with spectre about the bouncing around thing...It did get kind of annoying trying to go through door ways.

But yeah, it's awesome =)

Thanks for the comments guys. About the text - there's only so much text cos its the tutorial. Don't worry, the actual levels won't have as much (if any).

I'll have a look at the wall collisions. I know it can be a pain, but its simple and works fairly well. I'll try and fix it.

Good game, but ran slow

In the middle of playing it, it suddenly closed down. Do you have the "abort on all error messages thing ticked" cos if you do it was probably an error. Definetly wasn't my comp.

Apart from that, it was good. I liked the lighting effects =)

One thing: the game ends one you die!!!! Just like restart it or something!!!!!!!!!!

marbs - you probably just died. Like _Player_ said, it ends the game when you die. Don't worry, I have plans for your death. I've already implemented a health bar. Its a little different, and a little cool. I've also stuck in a nav-marker (unless you've already seen that) and a couple other cool bits and pieces. I'll have a new demo soonish.

THANKS FOR THE C+C!

Awesome! :) I could never download the old one, and now I'm getting a whole new even better one!

Very intriguing, so far. Not much to comment on, but the level design and overall atmosphere shows great promise. Besides, Gabrielle is hot. :)

Wow, the effects with the new level are awesome, with the clouds and stuff. The new lighting is nice too, I noticed the difference.

And when you shoot the rocket launcher into one of those door things, are those real[ish] physics?

Oh, btw, in the first level, the guy says the base is due west...But it's actually due east. =P
And is my light supposed to turn off and not come back on when I go into that little room inside the base?

hehe, thanks for the comments - the physics are real enough. And I honestly don't know why the lights turn off when you go there. I think it has to do with the edge of the room.

And thanks for the typo report :P I'll fix it.

I adore this game, even on my slightly out dated 2.4 GHZ, it ran fine. I like the physics and light (luminaire done well)

The movement felt very natural. I just sat at the controls and instantly began playing. There was no adjustment period, which is quite something indeed. Great game. The first turret in the hall is too hard, in my opinion.

Awesome. I liked the pretty lighting and the gun physics especially.

Weird control scheme, I made a simpler 2-player only deathmatch game. I'll upload it when it's finished. Still has nice dialogues. Did you draw those graphics yourself? If so, I could use help.

Yes, apart from the portraits, which will be changed soon, I made all of the graphics (I think...)

I like the control scheme. I find it natural, but thats just me. Thanks for the coments guys.

I liked everything about this game. The game ran smooth, I found no visible errors (except for the one FSX pointed out), the graphics were cool, and the fact that you could customize your mech. :D
8/10 - Needs more weapons/things to do/etc.

It took me a whole 5 minute to get you those portraits! :p
Anywho, very sweet game Malaika. I really like the lighting effects. I wish I played it sooner... It reminds me of a game that came out on the PS1 which played very much like Danse Machina, but with more blood.
