Got my BSc on Saturday. It was a whole thing with robes and hoods and parents coming down and photos and all kinds of other stuff, the upshot of which is I can now put "Bachelor's Degree" under "level of education" on all those internet surveys.

It was also a reminder that my time in education is coming to an end soon. I'm doing my honours this year, should be graduating with that in April 2015 (touch wood), and then next who knows? I've considered doing masters – folks say it's not too difficult to get a bursary – but I dunno. I've spent all my life just learning stuff, so in a way I'm itching to get out and do some sort of real work soon.

Of course I'm a little frightened by the idea as well, but ultimately if I do masters and I do it full time I'd like it to be because I want to do masters and not because I'm scared of the real world. My lecturers of course all encourage it – they showed us this pay-grade graph in third year and the gap between honours and masters is quite enticing. So I dunno. We'll see.

In other news, I've started keeping another blog over at David Yates dot co dot za, using the frighteningly new node.js-based blogging framework Ghost. It's worth it for the editor alone, which allows you to write in Markdown and shows you a preview of your post on the right-hand side of the page. It's an absolute revelation, and something I hope to see in more places as time goes on.

I have seen the face of God

Ghost is, unfortunately, very underfeatured at the moment, but it's under active development and I think there are exciting times ahead. I'm looking into developing plugins and/or themes, but more on that at some later stage.

I am working on my master's right now, and I highly recommend doing it. Researching a single thing that interests you is very rewarding.
