(UPDATED) Shoutouts for an excellent 2016!
Posted on December 31, 2015 at 18:27

I've been rather heartbroken to see that not only has activity begun to die down, but also that everybody seems to be drifting apart as a community. This frustrates me because I let myself be convinced that we are such a closely-knit community that we'd still be in touch with one another even if you take the site away, but as the months went on I've begun to uncover a lot of resentment and even hate that people have towards one another. As much as I dislike it when people begin screaming "64DIGITS IS DEAD", I've gotta admit that I too am very uncertain of the community's future and I would rather much make sure that I am in good terms with the friends that I have made here. I still have the strong desire to stay in the fight to keep us afloat, but I feel like I've also been fighting another battle against becoming disillusioned.

I could go on talking about the my frustrations, but I'd rather take Jani's advice and just start focusing on the positive things we've had going for us, and I want to begin this year on a more positive note. No resentment, no drama, and no calling out.

I've been meaning to do something nice over the last several months to combat the negativity that has been spreading around here like wildfire. Back in the day when we were much younger, we had this "loveblog" fad where we'd write positive things towards one another. These were the kinds of blogs that won me over, and are part of the reason why I've stuck around after all these years. I thought it would be cool if I tried to revive it again, so I spent some time over the last few days writing one for most of the userbase that had been consistently active over the last few years. There are a few people I still need to add in so stay tuned for those.

Now get your buns ready for 8000 words of ass-kissing, unnecessary apologies, and me pretending to be your BFF as I wish you the best for 2016.

Oh, and also if you still maintain contact with a 64D member over Facebook/Skype/Tumblr and you see them on here, be a bro and feel free to let them know that I wrote something for them.

Thanks!

For those who I have missed, please don't feel left out. As much as I'd like to write something towards all of the users I've crossed paths with, that would require a much greater time investment than what would be possible. Thank you for understanding.

Thank you all for the fun that I've had on this community, and I wish you all a happy 2016!

FUCKING D'AWWWWWW this post is wonderful

But seriously though, thanks for writing all of this out. It must have taken a long time, and each one is equally thoughtful.

I'm working on some stuff that I'm hoping to put on the site in the foreseeable future. Doing what I can to get back into the old groove. Here's to a hopefully dope 2016.

yeah, I agree with TG. I d'awwwww'd at mine. dude, thanks. i fucking needed to hear that. and i'm glad i'm just not a thorn that doesn't go away but instead try to keep the site alive.

i'm glad you're able to relate. i've found that most people are able to relate with life's struggles, as strange or bizzare or even person specific as they may be, but it takes a lot more than sharing a few text comments here and there to be able to. i think that the joke tagline that we have under the logo "is not a replacement for social interaction" is severly understated -- for years i used the excuse in my head, "i don't need to make friends IRL i have 64D!!" but this is not only bullshit, but poisonous. i don't know what it was about the internet back in the day in which pretty much every person i talked to online wanted to give me a high five over being asocial (read: commonly mistaken as "anti-social"). it's weird. hell, if i didn't have IRL events FORCE me to socialize more, i'd be very much miserable than i am.

i don't make it obvious because i have no way to prove it, but most of the time, I'm OK. but most bummed out days i go from 100% to 0% real quick, and it's hard to bounce back if I allow myself to stay there. that's when i get on here and write endlessly... but really i hate to do that cause when I write while I'm bummed out i tend to bullshit. i'll say crap like "I"M ALWAYS SADD BAWWWW" and I wish i didn't but here's the truth.

really cyrus, thanks. i kinda got over the fact that 64D might be on it's last few years because lets' face it, this is a community of current-day wannabe rockstars. even though most, if not all of us are able to make games, we don't. and the few that do, don't make a lot of money if at all. so really, even though this is a "hobby," we all gotta pay bills, act on our responsibilities, and hang out with the people we care about. there's not the time to sit around and game develop for 4 hours and go talk about it online for a couple of more.

this is a good thing.

yeah, i'd love to have a community here that ranges from the original cast to right now, but most likely it's not going to happen. it's HARD to keep contact when all that keeps us together are hopeful ideas about each other finishing a successful game. most of us rarely do.

there needs to be another incentive for people to want to be here. without that, i don't see the community getting bigger or staying the same, but only smaller.

but yay 64D, happy 2015.

Like with Kilin, I feel like I do have a lot ot apologize for as well. I know that you have as much passion for the community as I do and I feel like my erratic behavior and false promises have gotten in the way of you trying to make this a better place for everyone. I respect your decision to step down as staff if it means that you'll be able to contribute to the community as a regular member and honestly to me I feel that the only thing that has changed is the badges under your avatar. You're still one of the most valued people on this site.

We may have had our differences and I may have held numerous grudges against you but I just wanna forget about all of that. There's no point on preoccupying myself with the past anymore and I just want to move on. I now consider you to be a very good friend, and even if I don't share your same musical interest I also consider you to be one of the more interesting people on this site. Especially with the insight that you can provide when it comes to global issues and whatnot so that this site does not become just one giant echo chamber.

Glad to see you sticking around :)

I'm already finding my way back onto my feet. It looks like the shop might be reopening as part of a joint venture ... this year (Nearly slipped up on that one, Happy New Year from South Africa). It'll be nice to earn a fixed salary again, helps me to not feel guilty for working on personal projects (Which sounds silly, but I feel a lot of responsibility towards my family and my position).

It does feel like the site is going down, slowly but surely. I don't know what we'd be able to do about it, besides the usual 'we need v4' thing. I'll just keep plodding along posting new blogs wherever I can.

Here's to a fresh start in 2016!

;-; Humbled and flattered by your words. Can't believe you took the time considering how little I've actually contributed to the site. Thank you, I greatly appreciate your presence.

All of you, let's make 2016 fukken awesome!

It was nice to hear from you a couple of weeks ago and that's what ultimately brought me back here today. It's easy to get lost in your own negativity and believe that no one actually cares, but it's really nice to know that at least one person does.

I feel really bad for not making an effort to stay in touch with people - or friends, rather. I always feel everyone I've known over the years have just drifted away and gotten caught up in their busy lives, but I wonder if I'm partially to blame for just not making an effort to contact them. I always feel that they're too busy and will consider my trying to talk to them an annoyance, so I very rarely try.

It's been a pleasure knowing you for however many years it's been. You and the rest of this site helped shape me into the person I am today (for better or for worse).

Also, we'll definitely go storm chasing one day. We probably won't make it back alive, but it'll be fun while it lasts.

Here's to a new and hopefully better year for all of us. :) Happy New Year, everyone.

Wow. This is so nice!
I was also kind of surprised to see that many people here don't like each other. Especially since I actually do like all of you. Well, except maybe Rob, but I was more creeped out by him than actually disliking him because of how much he asked about my little sister...

And just to ease your mind a little, know that I will probably never stop posting or visiting this site. You guys are probably some of the only people I know that like what I like as much as me.

Thanks for posting this, it's one of the more heartwarming things I've seen on the site. :D

How thoughtful of you. Always nice to see something like this. Perhaps I should be more active with actual content rather than just spamming random crap.

Screw you for taking all the credit for the cacti fad ehh fuck it, you're the reason why it got so big.

:l Didn't mean to. All I did was flip an image and alter another slightly. May cacti be with you, however.

I generally ignore the actual content here and stay for the random crap. :(

This was a good trend to bring back. Thanks for your kind words. And activity seems to have spiked a bit for the new year, so let's enjoy it while it lasts.

This site filled an important role for me in highschool: my school didn't do programming classes, and I in those days I didn't really know anyone IRL who had the drive for programming and gamedev I had at the time. So it was great to come on 64D and see people talking about their games, to see people with much more experience and talent than me, and just to have that feeling of not being alone in my nerdy hobby. Since I discovered more likeminded people at university and now my workplace, that role has become less important, but I still keep this site right next to my inbox on my bookmarks bar.

On a philosophical level, I deeply prefer the whole thing of what 64D is to modern, centralised, impersonal, corporate-controlled social media. Doesn't stop me from going through bouts of inactivity, but I'm really glad we've made it into the year 2016 with our dinky community site and ragtag bunch of gamedevs and gamedev-adjacents. If it doesn't last forever, well, neither does anything else, but we've outlived most of our contemporaries; it feels like there's no-one around anymore to complain about 64D elitism like they did in the old days.

George, I wish you and everyone else well for the coming year. Let's all keep fired up about whatever resolution we've made till at least halfway through February (I think the average abandonment date is around Jan 21).

I'll just say that to person like me, who is not part of anything, it feels nice to feel like part of something. 64Digits helps me to feel that sometimes and it's nice.

It's probably only site where I don't feel like total stranger.
=]

Talking about 2016, it's going to be a year, during which I will fight to become a real indie game developer, to get access to Steam, to get some money out of all that effort I've put into my game.
If this will fail completely, I have no idea what I'll do. But whatever happens, it's going to be interesting!
Bring it on...

Hey Cyrus, aren't you forgetting we are Skype buddies? Log on more :P.

Thanks for the shout out :D. The responsibility thing is mixed results at the moment. Lots going on.

I'd love a civ game at some point. Or any game. Just message me and see if my insanely random schedule permits my attendance. I still play a lot of minecraft too. We should get FSX and the gang together again for a game/teamspeak night.

I'm still around via hearsay.

Happy new year!!

i'm extremely flattered at the mention, thank you, and happy new year

as for the moving out thing, well, ehehe
that happened 6 months ago, at the start of july
not intending to nitpick, just thought i'd offer an update

i'm literally always on skype, so if you (or anyone else) really gets the urge to get in touch with me, it's absolutely your best bet.
kilin et. al. can attest that it's better than my actual phone.
my username is taizenchisou

i share some of the confusion in regards to the alleged mutual dislike, as well
i guess i didn't actively hate anyone here? [shrug]
oh well. i hope i didn't give reason for anyone to hate me - v-

until the next dump of shit o/

This is awesome,

No Cyrus, Thank you, I wasn't sure if posting those comments made me a dick, and they were not well received by everyone, I just know that it is what I personally needed to (but didn't) hear when I was in that way. I hoped it would help someone else in the way I wanted it to.

also, isn't BlueBX actually JID?

So for now have a huge hug and thank you. I always feel warm inside when people think of me. Sry if I've been contributing to the negative posts lately. That was last year. HAPPY NEW YEAR btw Whoh

Ooh, I can sense the positive energy in this blog (not sure have physicists even proven the negative energy yet)!

Reading this made me realize this site actually has an interesting history someone should really write down some day.
