Abandoned

No, no sad story about abandonement, just a screenshot of my newest game, that will be called... (guess)

It's the entrance area (oddly enough the last area in the game)

I was kinda impressed with how it turned out myself. It is certainly the best looking area in the game.

Expect this game soon!

Looks really good JaJ :), also like how the view fades a bit. Background has a really nice touch to it, with the transparent eggs.

The blocks on the left look a bit strange, is that shadow-casting ?

The character is the only thing that emits light in the game, the blocks on the left arn´t reached by the light

Should it be smaller? Or with different colors? I'm pretty sure you'll have a very hard time finding your way around without it

Dang, this looks really cool - I've always liked your pixelly graphics. That creature is pretty bizarre, but sorta intriguing as well.

So is this some kind of exploration game? Because I <3 exploration games. And they seem to have sorta fallen out of vogue.

It is most definately an exploration game. It's one big maze actually, it focusses completely on finding your way out and puzzles, no action or reflex elements like enemies etc. I tried to make it not really lineair, and there are many optional things to find. Also, it'll have two different endings depending on what (or rather, how much) you do.

"When is soon?"
Soon is next week hopefully. I have been working on it almost fulltime since the the fifth of August and I hope to finish it before the month ends. Currently I'm on schedual, the main part of the game is pretty much done, but I will still have plenty of work hiding some optional stuff and polishing it

Oh, do I ever love the sound of this. Nonlinearity and secrets = big points, for me. And action is okay, but it gets old. I love a good puzzle.

Next week, eh? I'll stay tuned.

I think what he means is that it seems a bit like a placeholder. It doesn't seem to fit with the graphical style of the rest of the screen.

Is it an overall or a room map? You could consider making non-visited room transparent instead of black for instance... but I don't know how it works, so I can't really give helpful tips atm.

I'm still confused over what your game will be titled. :P

That visual style is definitely a keeper. :)

Yeah, I agree that the map doesn't quite fit the rest of the visual style... I second Baltirow on making non-visited rooms transparent, and then maybe use duller, darker colors, ones more in keeping with the rest of the graphics. And/or maybe just make the whole thing slightly transparent.
