Some 50DK Progress (And a Demo!)
Posted on July 29, 2012 at 23:53 I added the Orange and Yellow Knights, and a couple little magubbins here and there. Also, Ferret's on the team now. Pretty groovy. One thing which I absolutely need to be sure of is that this game isn't too difficult for people to endure. Most notably, I feel the Yellow Knight might be perhaps a bit too tricky for the third of 50 Duels. For those of you who are interested, there will be a download link at the bottom, as well as the controls (they're simple, but it's still necessary to know them before jumping in head-on). Recently, I've figured out a little trick I could do to increase replayability. I'm actually going to create upwards of 70 Knights. The first 10 Duels will be fixed as the Color Squad (as a sort of introduction to how exactly the game formats itself), and the final 10 will be the King's right-hand men, which consist of a bunch of overpowered Knights (Golden Knight, Dimension Knight, and so forth). The middle 30 Duels will randomize between a pool of at least 50 Knights. This way people might play again for a chance to encounter whatever Knights they didn't get the first time around. I might also add a certain illusion of choice, whereas you are given two Knights to pick from for each Duel. Hell, I might even make more than 50 Middle Knights, but in that case they'll have to either run some similarities between one-another (i.e. duplicate a pre-existing Knight and give the new one some minor alterations and a new theme) or have relatively simple patterns. Either way, as of right now, all I've got is 3 Knights, but that's only because I hyped myself into thinking they'd take longer to make than they really are. Both Orange and Yellow together only took me a day to make. Then again, that might be at least partially because I already had some of their sprites set beforehand, and knew more-or-less what I'd do for their patterns, as well as roughly how to achieve programming them. When I eventually have to make new Knights completely from scratch, I can confidently estimate I could crank out one in 3 hours straight, for the simpler ones at least. Anyways, here's the download link for trying out the demo. Tell me what you think so far. Yes, I know, those sound effects are very obviously made from bfxr. But they work well enough. LET'S DO THIS SHIT! The game only goes up to Yellow Knight, after which it will start looping him again and again. CONTROLS (there will eventually be an in-game tutorial): Left and Right: Move Z: Jump (variable jumping is a thing) X: Jab (rapid-fire) X and Forward: Lunge (Duel Knight dashes sword-first) X and Backwards: Backwards Attack (takes longer to withdraw from, only good in a pinch) Hold X: Charge Shot (does 3 Damage, and comes out in a mid-ranged burst) Let me know what you guys think so far, that'd be great.

But it's not bad imo. The controls are nice and everything seems to flow.
