Arcalyth,

Frederick has sent you this email from http://gmc.yoyogames.com/index.php.

Dear 64 Digits
I am Frederick Watson. Hear me out. I promise this will not take much of your time.

I am an administrator (and current Owner) of Game Maker Station (Game Maker Station is a network of other websites and also the proud owner of the new Game Maker School. Currently 4,172 members strong).

I would like to offer you a merge (I hardly ever offer these and especially do not offer them to communities larger than 2,000 members. this is rare.). What is this merge you're talking about Frederick? Well it's simple really. I am offering for you to merge your website/members to Game Maker Station.

Why on Earth would we do that? I think Game Maker Station has the extra pieces of the puzzle that you are seeking. The only thing keeping 64 Digits alive is the blogs. 64 Digits has a dead forums & not so active blogs. If you merge, you will have a very active forum to go on, active blogs, active school, active chat room, and much more.

What's in it for you? Your administrators will be given administrator ranks on Game Maker Station, and your moderators will be given moderator ranks as well. Our website games pages are still under construction, but it is not impossible to move all of the games from 64 Digits to Game Maker Station. Trust me, our staff has a way of doing things. Also, you won't have to pay for your domain anymore which will mean extra money in your pocket.

Not to worry, we may have slightly strict rules on the forums, but on our chat rooms and blogs, our rules are pretty much the same as yours.

I think this could be a great opportunity for both of us. We have so much in common.

If you turn this offer down, you will only be given 2 more weeks to change your mind. After that, it's final and my offer will no longer be valid.

Please think about what I have just told you. This may sound useless to you, but the whole point of this merge is to JOIN TOGETHER and BECOME ONE. As silly as it may be, this can actually make us stronger, better, and we will both reap the rewards.

I hear you are extremely busy and this will give you peace of mind having less on your TO DO LIST and more to be able to get done in your life.

This is why I am not interested in merging GMS over to 64 digits. It's simply because: 1). Your forums are dead 2). your blogs are nearly dead 3). even if we were to merge and bring more traffic, it would be too difficult to work out all of services and extra websites and communities who are connected to Game Maker Station.

If you are interested, PM or Email me and let me know. The third part of the merge takes 1 day and the other half will take 1 week.

PART 1 - Move all admins & mods to gms. This will require each one to sign up and give me their profile URL's
PART 2 - Put nothing but a link on your website (home page) that says "64 Digits has merged with Game Maker Station. CLICK HERE TO GO TO GMS" and
PART 3 - We will move all archives to GMS. This includes Games, Examples, etc. We'll even try to move posts.

Intead of making a fast decision, please discuss this with your staff and let me know what you decide.
I hope to hear from you soon.

-Frederick

I say no, and judging by your blog's title, I bet you agree.

The reason, however, is mostly pride. Which makes me think perhaps I shouldn't have quite so much; 64D isn't as strong as it once was. It would probably, what, double their members? Even if only a very small fraction is active.

Financially, however idealistically, 64D has everything to gain by the proposal. That of course assumes they could afford to run a good server for it. Currently the server SUCKS, but at least it's not gone completely down, that I've seen...

So, basically, I personally say screw them, we'll sit in our corner and rot first. They run a school... for noobs, by noobs...

1- He's probably afraid FSX will jump on it
2- We're more cynical

We 64Digitsians are proud of being what we are. If we would merge, this pride is crushed.

I like three, but I didn't want to put words in your mouth ^_^ Feelings are all right to put in your mouth, though, as I'm personally afraid FSX would be interested for the server thing.

Eww. His attitude makes me rage. What Juju said. There's a reason we're not all on GMS already - we don't want to be.

Even if 64d was a pure GM site, I'd vote no. But we're not and this would just be killing us off, not keeping 64d alive.

Please send him a reply asking if he would like GMS to merge into 64 digits to become the ledgendary 128 digits. Alternatively, sending pr0n works.
EDIT: Deal breaker - they ban swearing. Fuck that.

Fun fact: I've never actually heard of Game Maker Station before.

On a more serious note, was there even a time when our forums were alive? I don't know why they even exist (aside for being briefly used for discussing the community game)

And do they even HAVE blogs? The merger proposal indicates they do, but I can't find them on their site. Their chatroom is hilarious ^_^

Huh. I have a game on their site.

Also, they seem to be pretty focused on Game Maker and I think we've decided that our blogs are totally unrelated to Game Maker. I don't even think it's appropriate.

I propose to send him a reply with a 100pt font saying LOL.
This is 64Digits, that email is like USA sending a letter to Canada saying "Oh hi, I think you don't have enough people, wanna be part of the US?"

@Cesque - their blogs are actually just another set of forums.

I've never heard of them, and I abhor that guy's 'holier than thou' attitude'. The GMS site looks like a pre-made template, their logo is a gradient with a default shadow filter, they have zero games/examples compared to us, you can't even search the site, I could go on, etc...

Their site structure/infrastructure sucks. I couldn't even figure out how to make a profile or submit games except in the forums. Everything about their site seems to be templates/examples/freely available stuff just... slapped together. I bet they edit their database manually to add games/examples.

I know it says it is still in beta, but beta after 4000 supposed members? And this is their beta? It looks more like an alpha! V3 may be a fantasy, but at least we are out of beta, out of V1, and are in what is kind of like V2.5 Even more, I looked over their forums. Half the posts seem to be from a very small group of people, and half of those are Frederick himself.

Also, I don't think 64D is dead anymore. The activity in the last month has shot up. We're a lot smaller than before, but with KaBob's recent 'mistake' things are going up. I'm even thinking about posting some C# examples.

They say we are dead? Yet, at the time of reading this, we have more people active on our site than theirs - discounting guests, we've got 7 online right now vs their 6.

I could go on, but I vote no. I think 64D is way better, even though it has been zombified and reanimated countless times. We have a better database, a better site (both in terms of look and infrastructure), more technical skill (should we choose to use it), etc. In other words, we have more than they do.

To me, it looks like they want all of our stuff/data without any of the work. The only thing that they seem to actually have going is their forums. They can and did say the same thing about our blogs, but the thing is, we were *always* a blog-oriented community.

The only actual edge that they might have is a more active userbase, but from the looks of it, their level of activity is similar to ours, if not lower. So, if anything, they would have to be the ones merging with us - we have a much better database/infrastructure/etc.

I say no. I like my blogs, my profile, my badges, all of it. I don't care if we aren't very active - their site is about as personal as a stab in the back - it is just a boring template. 64Digits has always been and always will be about personality. You can express yourself on this site, both in terms of content and customization. I like it here.

Also, technically this isn't a merger, it is an acquisition AKA takeover. A merger forms a new company/group where both companies have somewhat equal power.

Fuck that shit.

64D isn't a forum, it's a community. We're individuals, not the amalgamation GMS seems to promote.

I don't like Frederick. Where does he get off emailing you guys that condescending waste-of-kilobytes?

As said above, our site has personality, an awesome archive of games and examples, and a great userbase. If we wanted noobs, we'd already have some.

Fred needs to learn some respect.

I stopped laughing when I realized he was serious.

Then I laughed even harder.
