PayPal - Rant
Posted on June 24, 2008 at 20:21

As of this moment, PayPal has successfully defended my account against a third party:

Quote
We have reason to believe that your account was accessed by a third party. We have limited access to sensitive PayPal account features in case your account has been accessed by an unauthorized third party. We understand that having limited access can be an inconvenience, but protecting your account is our primary concern.

Now, I was perfectly happy with this and in fact a little proud. PayPal had done what they were supposed to, protect my moneh.

As much as I'd like to say that was the end of the story and my account was quickly unlocked again and I was back to making transactions, it wasn't. It isn't.

To un-limit my account, I had to do the following three things:

1) Change my password
2) Change my security questions
3) Confirm my location

I did 1 and 2 relatively easily. I just had to log in with my bank account number and change the stuff. Number 3 on the other hand is a problem.

I click on it, and immediately it asks for me to give it my credit card information. I do not have a credit (or debit) card. My parents are 100% against putting their financial information online. So that's out. At first I was confused because I saw no connection to "confirming my location" and adding a CC to their database.

So basically, I think they have made some mistake, because obviously if I only have a bank account attached to the account, I can't "confirm my location" with a nonexistent CC. So naturally I send them an email (aka support ticket) wondering how the hell I'm supposed to do this.

1 day goes by.

Another day goes by.

It makes me wonder how the fuck such a popular company can still be in business with service this shitty. As I am writing this, I have my gmail inbox open in another window and I STILL haven't gotten a response to either of 2 emails I sent them.

I do have to give them some credit since they've managed to protect my account from everything. Nothing could penetrate it at this moment. Including me.

Way to go PayPal, you locked me out of my own account. I'm coming with a fucking machete if this isn't resolved in the next week.

A Question
Posted on May 19, 2008 at 19:09

I did some free writing in English today (more like philosophy than English) and here is what my pencil and I came up with:

(text version)
"What if this was regarded as the greatest piece of writing in the world? Yes, this, not that, this. It could potentially be about nothing, but if it did turn out to be the most reputable piece of liturature on the face of the planet, then I guess it would make sense, since it is about itself. NO other writing in history has written itself before. You may wonder how the words get on the paper. Well, there are several lines that current life haven't crossed yet, but for now, just call me the author. What would one say if they were to find out that their most dreamed of job in all their life would be impossible for them to get? Even better, what would one do if they found out something perceived impossible was impossible for sure? You'd think it wouldn't matter. Although I would say that it'd have about as much effect as if something perceived as impossible was told to be possible for sure. That has been done before, many many times actually. So are we looking for an answer? No, we are looking for an ending. An ending to this story of humanity and its constant searching for pleasure and wisdom. So when you next read or hear, "What is the meaning of life?" throw back at them, "What is the ending of life?" I'll bet the dinosaurs found out their ending right as it happened. Natural disasters are not even close to being the leading cause of death in the world though. Does it even have to with death? Couldn't the end of us be some sort of perpetual state of "

Picture of the writing, for those interested.

Hope you all like it (and can read it) comments are appreciated!

Who pissed on the GMC?
Posted on March 23, 2008 at 19:10

Yeah, well, it's supposed to be a rhetorical question, since the answer is so obviously YoYoGames.

Personally, I really liked (and miss) the friendly blue/gray theme. Now every time I click on my GMC bookmark I am greeted with a flash of green and yellow light so bright that my eyes need a couple seconds of stun time to get used to it.

SATs are scary... so scary in fact, that I have come up with a title that is much more fitting than Standardized Achievement Test.

SCARY ANAL TUBES

Yeah. If that doesn't make you shift uneasily in your chair, I don't know what will.

So I got my first parking ticket the other day and it was a very ironic situation. Here it is. My jazz band has a gig downtown, and since it's midday we have some trouble finding parking. I ended up next to a meter a few blocks away from the place we were playing. Before this though, one of my friends asked if they could have some change for parking. Being the nice person I am, I handed him a couple of quarters.

Bad idea.

My random act of kindness indirectly led to me getting a $10 parking ticket.

WHO cares if I pay for 45 mins of parking, and come back 10 mins later to get out of my space.

I would be curious to see what the odds are that a cop will check your meter in the 10 minutes that you are not there. Seriously.

And the worst part is... I actually paid for my meter. I could have just not and SAVED money. How is that for logic.

Ok, well sorry if I put you in a bad mood, to cheer you up, I have the following links for you:

Awesome gaming podcast, watch it everyweek

The Console 2 is coming...
Posted on March 05, 2008 at 13:16

The Console 2
I just finished up the outline/base code for The Console 2. I really can't say much because I don't want to spoil anything but I hope that anyone who plays it (and hopefully beats it) will enjoy it. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you should go into My Games (5) and download The Console. And play it.

Tribes 2
So I started to play Tribes 2 again, that game is so underrated. Sure the graphics are a few years behind, but the gameplay is soooo worth it. Even if you're just playing with some bots, the jetpack and the endless weapon configurations never get old.

There is a legal free download of the entire game (no online play, unfortunately, but Hamachi takes care of that :)) at this link if you want: download link.

iPod Touch SDK
So I think the iPhone and iPod Touch SDK comes out tomorrow (hopefully) and I am pumped to start coding for it. I really hope Apple doesn't limit the SDK to lame parts of the iPhone/iPod.

Colleges?
I know this is a really random question, but does anybody have any colleges that they know are awesome? I know the chances of someone on this community being older than 18 are very slim, but I know there are a few of you :-p

over seven THOUSAAAANDDD!!!!
In completely unrelated news, I am going to hit 7k hits very soon. I remember when I had 700, its been a while hasn't it :)

24 Lost Heroes
Posted on February 25, 2008 at 23:13

Disregard the clever name of this blog, and just take a moment and ask yourself, Do I watch 24, Lost, or Heroes? If your answer was yes to any of these TV shows, then you are correct.

Yes, you are correct.

As of now those three shows play a pretty big part of my entertainment these days. Call me a sucker, but I challenge anyone to write better stuff than the guys who write those shows.

Also, a movie you have to see if you already haven't is Cloverfield. Once again, all of the idiots who think they are a "step ahead" everyone else claiming the movie was terrible (many of the same who don't "like" Lost), try not to comment on this. But if you haven't seen it, or loved it, please tell me about it. I thought this movie was a breakthrough in modern film. Taking realism to the next level is what people complain about all the time, and this movie gave it to them. To an extent. I'm not gonna spoil anything, but the chances of that movie actually happening are close to slim. Actually, very slim. Quite atomically slim.

I haven't blogged here in a while, but school has really taken over most of my life, I am halfway through my Junior year in HS and looking at colleges, looking for colleges, and getting all my school work done is quite a chore. Any advice for tech colleges? Recommendations? Anyone who says "MIT" doesn't get a cookie.

Not like you would anyways :-p

Well, sorry for the short blog, but hopefully you all have enjoyed this quick read, and I'm sure I'll be getting quite a lot of flaming for the aforementioned media coverage.

How to Jailbreak your iPod/iPhone
Posted on December 24, 2007 at 21:28

This is my rough draft of a How To about how to jailbreak your iPod Touch or iPhone. Hopefully some of you have an iPod or iPhone to test this out with :)

Quote
Hey, if you're reading this you either have an iPod that you want to explore more or you are curious what other peoples iPod's are capable of.

As of now (current iPod/iPhone update from apple: v1.1.2) everything in this tutorial/FAQ applies to both the iPod and iPhone. I will only say iPod because I'm a lazy typer.

This tutorial assumes that you have a Wi-fi Connection at your disposal.

First of all, you need to figure out what firmware version you have.

1) Plug your iPod in to your PC/Mac and open up iTunes.
2) Click on your iPod in the devices list.

You should have either v1.1.1 or v1.1.2. If you have something different, (less than v1.1.1) then skip the first two sections of this FAQ.

If you have v1.1.1, read here:

This is the easiest part of the tutorial.

1) Navigate to http://www.jailbreakme.com (http://www.jailbreakme.com/) on your iPod in Safari
2) Scroll down and click "Install App-Snapp"
3) Safari should crash to your home screen and just wait for 30-40 seconds until your iPod restarts itself.
4) You should see a new icon on your home screen called Installer.
5) Open it up and install "BSD Subsystems", "Community Sources", and "SummerBoard".
6) You are free to install anything you want (for free) from Installer.

If you have v1.1.2, read here:

If you have upgraded, you will have a little more work on your hands. You are essentially downgrading your firmware and then jailbreaking.

1) Download the v1.1.1 firmware it should have this filename: iPod1,1_1.1.1_3A110a_Restore.ipsw
2) Put your iPod into recovery mode (Hold the sleep + home button until the iPod shuts off, and then let go of the sleep button, still holding the home button, until a picture of the iTunes logo with the iPod cable appears.
3) Plug your iPod into your PC/Mac, the start up iTunes.
4) Hold SHIFT (PC) or OPTION (Mac) and click "Restore" in your iPod summary. Navigate to the file you downloaded in step 1, and click OK.
5) The restore should work (shouldn't delete media) but an error 1015 is expected at the end.
6) Download this file here (http://conceitedsoftware.com/iphone/1.1.2-jailbreak.zip) and run "windows.bat" (PC) or "jailbreak.jar" (Mac). Then click "Boot from Recovery".
7) Your iPod should boot up and go to step 1 pf the v1.1.1 tutorial.

Many people like to update to v1.1.2 using a program called OktoPrep but since there is nothing noticeably different in v1.1.2, I prefer to just stick with v1.1.1.

If you have a version lower than v1.1.1, read here:

You really haven't updated your iPod for a while if this is the case. We will just upgrade it to v1.1.1 which is the best firmware for jailbreaking.

1) Plug your iPod into your PC/Mac.
2) Download the file in step 1 of the v1.1.2 section.
3) Hold SHIFT (PC) or OPTION (Mac) and click "Restore" in your iPod summary. Navigate to the file you downloaded in step 2, and click OK.
4) Wait.
5) Once your iPod is back up and running, go to the v1.1.1 tutorial.

Everything in this tutorial is what I've had to do on more than one occasion. But if the very rare case of a damaged iPod/iPhone pops up, I will not be held responsible. Don't blame the messenger!

This has worked for everyone I know so there shouldn't be any problems. I am available for help on AIM as foslock and would love to help you if you run into trouble.

http://www.ipodtouchfans.com (http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/) is a GREAT resource for this stuff, and I'm sure many people there can help you better than I can.

Thanks for reading, and happy jailbreaking!

P.S.

iPod Touch: iPhysics v0.7 + gpsPhone v1.0.0 (http://youtube.com/watch?v=1A0GchlCSL8)

iPod Touch: iPhysics v0.9.8 + Other Apps (http://youtube.com/watch?v=22i9t3bpOek)

Some of the things you can do with jailbreaked iPod :D

Hope this works out, please comment if something went wrong, and IM me on AIM or send me a PM.

Hope you had (having, or will have) a great holiday, and have an awesome New Year!

Long Live 64D!

The Big 5k
Posted on November 07, 2007 at 21:24

I am finally over 5,000 hits on 64Digits.

Awesome.

Where do I go from here?

... ... ... Damn

Well, I still have my iPod Touch, hacked and still giving me loads and loads of entertainment. Seriously, if you don't have one and live in ANY kind of city (I live in Burlington, VT for god-sakes) you will be able to find a Wi-Fi signal almost anywhere. Whether you can get internet access from it is another story, but if you do, the possibilities are endless. Need to look up something before class starts in school on Wikipedia? Use your iPT. Need to show a friend a YouTube video in the car on the way downtown? Hand over your iPT and pray for a stray WiFi signal. Need to find out where the 13 hidden skulls are in Halo 3? Pull it up while your still playing and become the official owner of H3.

</apple commercial>

Whoa, I'm back from the endless black background sheet abyss that is an Apple commercial.

But seriously, buy an iPod Touch.

</fake ending of apple commercial>

You thought I was actually done didn't you. Haha, the jeans and "hip" off color t-shirt aren't going to get me this time.

So, no news to report in my life except that the school production of Wonderful Town opens a week from tomorrow. We are at school until at least 8 now from every night until then. That night will be amazing, but I will probably have tons of homework (goddamn junior year, oh, and why do my teachers always suck?).

So, sorry for this malcontent but I am having a hard time concentrating even though it's only 9:21 PM. I got my drivers license a while ago and in 3 months I'll be able to legally drive my friends around :P. Also, I think I convinced my mom that we need a new computer and she said I might be able to build it. The only problem is that we haven't exactly talked about a budget and who would be paying for it =P

What did the 1337 owl say to the squirrel?
WOOHOOT!
WOOHOOT!
WOOHOOT!

iPT blog
Posted on October 20, 2007 at 17:50

So, I just turned 17 and got a brand new iPod touch (16gb) and this entire blog will be posted from it. It is probably the coolest thing that apple has ever released, as it is just an iphone without a camera or the phone capabilities. But you may be thinking "well all you can do is browse the Internet, and use the iPod features." well basically since I "jailbreaked" my iPod I can put a whole bunch of third party applications. Also it adds a whole new customization aspect to it.

One really cool thing is that you can listen to music while doing other things like browsing the Internet or post a blog on 64D.

Basically it rocks and its gonna be my favorite new toy for a while. Anyone who says the keyboard sucks is very very wrong. If you turn the iPod sideways it is just a normal keyboard but the word recognition technology is amaaaaazing.

Well, hopefully some people still know I exist after my temp leave of absense from here.

Hope everyone has a super halloween and dont put razor blades in any candy apples!!!

20,000 digits under the sea
Posted on August 12, 2007 at 14:37

Ok, I'm sorry for the irrelevant title but at least it's appropriate :)

So I haven't blogged for a looong time, and here is basically the awesome things that's happened... in no particular order.

1) I get paid for working 6 weeks as a counselor at a theatre camp. I get paid less than minimum wage. Foslock is angry. Foslock is told that since it is a non-profit organization, they can pay whatever the hell they want to their "employees". Foslocks accepts his $800 (still waiting for last couple checks).

2) Foslock gets his drivers license. I'm an alright driver so don't worry. I only got 9 points off of my driver's test, 21 points off and you fail.

3) Foslock gets the 250 downloads badge. Yay, he's been waiting for that for a while.

4) Foslock's friends get back from all the countries/camps/awesome places that foslock wasn't. They rub it in his face. Foslock in turn waves $800 back in theirs. Owned.

I don't really have any other cool stories... although, I did play 11 straight hours of poker with the buds. Start at 8:00 PM and go till 7:05 AM. Woke up at 4:30 PM and was disoriented like no other.

Well, basically my goal now is to get that yellow shiny 6000 blog hits badge. You can do it!

Also, for those who love techno, go to iTunes free radio stations, go to the Dance category and listen to "Puls Radio". It's awesome, and yes, it's Puls.

Thanks for reading, Have a good summer ya'll!

All Alone, New Vid, New Girls
Posted on July 11, 2007 at 19:32

So, it is summer, and I am the only one here in VT (out of my guy friends).

I made a YouTube video that explains (and proves) how retailers overprice their computers by a truckload. Watch should it here, you might learn something.

Since I am the only guy here, I have forced to hang out with many women to keep my social life alive. Turns out that it worked out for the best. I randomly get called by an old friend (dated in middle school, kept in touch, sorta, during fresh+soph year) and she is all flirty and finally admits she wants to hook up. Naturally I invite her over, and she will be at my house tomorrow night after I'm done my work day.

Boy am I excited for that ;)

Not to mention the girls working at my job. If anyone remembers my very first blog entry (a delicious cookie for those who remember it) I am a counselor at a theatre camp called Very Merry Theatre. I am one of 13 counselors, 9 of which are girls, 6 of which are beautiful, 2 of which are emotionally stunning... in their beauty.

Hehe it's probably my reward for working at such an intense job that I am getting way underpaid (nonprofit organization so I don't get min wage).

I am the only guy counselor there with a libido so they have no choice but to be extremely flirty with me (or maybe they just chose wisely :D). It's awesome. Planning on major hookups this summer.

Thanks for reading, unfourtunately, that's all I have for you today. Did anyone else really expect v3 to be here when we came back? Because I did. Damn.

Video of me being stupid
Posted on May 27, 2007 at 08:59

I'm sure you came to this blog either by clicking on the "catchy" title or just by randomly clicking active users.

What?
No one else does that but me?
Don't call me stupid.
Ok, maybe just a little bit.

I had some free time and I decided to make a random video of me being stupid. I wasn't aiming for anything creative or exciting, just stupid. That's the point of the video :-p. Anyone who cares will finally be able to see what I look like... and they will find out that I can act stupid quite easily.

Actually I really don't have to try...

Here is the video (yay for youtube!) (please don't downrate or post stupid comments, I already had to delete one person who was like "You are a dick, and a huge discrace to this song. Go suck a dick.")

EDIT: Figured I'd post another video of me being stupid:

Stupid vid #2

I haven't used GM in a long, long time and I feel really bad about it because I really liked it for a good 4 years, so I might start another project soon. It seems like the quality of TDS's is rising quite fast. Falcon squad and Apocalyptic Evolution are my two favorites now. Apocalyptic Evolution would be REALLY awesome with online co-op, like, you don't know how much fun it'd be to own infinite zombies with a friend typing back and forth:

You: OMGZ OMGZ ZOMBIES EVERWHERE!!
Them: OMGZ OMGZ I KNOW!! KILL THEM ALL!!
You: YEAAH *takes out shotgun*
Them: NO, NO GUNS, JUST USE THE LONG STICK!!
You: YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
*beats everything senseless*

Can you imagine how much fun that'd be?

Well, Have a good memorial day everyone!

(BTW, prom is tonight and I'll report back to you tomorrow when I won't be able to remember it.)

Starcraft 2
Posted on May 19, 2007 at 11:28

http://www.starcraft2.com/

It has finally been annouced, after 9 years of waiting since Brood War, IT HAS FINALLY COME!!!

THANK YOU BLIZZARD!!!!!!!!!

Now, this is gonna be more of a gaming blog than anything else.

Starcraft: Considered the best RTS by most gamers, having perfectly balanced races and unique strategy each game. I have been playing for about 7-8 years and have always loved the game (along with my friends). Buy it if you don't already have it. It's worth the 20 bucks. P.S. Buy it even if your going to playing SC2, you'll need the practice :)

Half-Life: Yes, I'm an old game fanatic :) Half-Life is arguably one of the best FPS games ever made. The story is so complicatedly awesome, it is unbelievable that they made 2 (so far) amazing sequels to it (not including blue-shift, opposing-force, and the other 1gen HL games). I've recently started the story again, probably for the 11th time, and I still can't keeping my self from playing it.

Battlefield 2142: If you liked the old BF games then you will certainly enjoy this, if your computer can handle it. The requirements are pretty intense, or at least for it to be worth looking at. The game is definitely complimented by the amazing graphics, because it really isn't that different than BF2, just with cooler guns, and vehicles. But, like all the BF games, it never gets old when your playing on a huge server battling Titans and issuing orbital strikes left and right.

F.E.A.R.: The ultimate benchmark of modern day graphics cards and processors. Basically the only game that takes advantage of SLi mode gfx cards. This game is legitimately the scariest thing I've ever done. No movie or experience has freaked my out more than playing this game, not only because how goddamn freaky it is, but how much I kept wanting to play it! You are basically never explained anything in game so you want to find out by playing more. Also, the AI in the this game is truly amazing. Almost nothing is prescripted, even though everything looks like it (I know because I've played through levels more than once).

Well, I wish I could add more games, but I fear that someone might have already blogged about SC2 in the time that I've written this.

Thanks for reading!

Anyone want 89 dollars?
Posted on May 15, 2007 at 21:17

I have officially made 89 dollars from The Cash Grab. All without a credit card and now with only about 10,000 spam (not an exaggeration) in my spam folder (all auto junked).

Each offer is about an average of a dollar and takes 2-3 minutes and if you really know what your doing, usually will only take about a minute.

Please, sign up if you already haven't. Earn some extra money, and if you have any problems, you can talk to the administrator of the site via aim on The Cash Grab.

Payments are sent to your door by check or directly through a verified paypal account. You only have to be 13 to sign up (and you might accidentally say your 18 for some offers that require it) and live in the United States.

So please... take a few seconds just to make an account, and if you choose, you can do some offers for legit money.

I have already spent 50 of the money I got and I have the rest as wallet cash.

Please. You'll not only be making yourself money, but each person that I refer, I get a bonus of 20% of what you make (not subtracted from your total).

It'd make me happy.

Well, enough of my blatant advertising :)

I've been playing Sapphire Tears a little and it seems to be a really cool game. JakeX really has something going for him. In the small change he reads this, I would tell him this:

-I donno if it's possible, but the lag is kinda annoying.
-Once again, I donno if it's fixable, but my low-mid range comp goes about 10-15 fps average with this game.
-Maybe a tutorial :) It was a tad confusing when I started out.

Well, I've got nothing really to report in my life, except a few sophomore girls possibly liking me. I'll let you know if that goes anywhere.

OH, and this week is the premier of The Crucible at Burlington High School, where I star as a minor role :). I've been at school rehearsing basically till 8 everyday for the last 2 months.

Thanks for reading this randomly long blog (I get carried away with myself sometimes) and have a good one!

(do it.)

The Cash Grab
Posted on March 06, 2007 at 21:04

Ok, so this is the product of a genius mind and a little too much free time.

My friend has created a site called The Cash Grab which is a lot like those sites where you can do surveys and free offers to earn small amounts of money.

His site works a lot like that, except you know for 100% that it isn't a scam and you will NOT get spam from him.

You are able to do many MANY offers without a creditcard. This means that someone of any age can make some money!

YOU DO NOT NEED PAYPAL, YOU CAN GET MAILED A CHECK FOR FREE!

It started on the 1st of March and you will be mailed a check or be credited via paypal at the end of every month if you have more than 15 dollars earned. I already have $16.65 on the 5th day! I haven't even spent that much time on the site!

So, I know I don't really have such a huge reputation here, but if a few people could just sign up using my referral link, I will earn 20% of what you guys get! It won't be subtracted, it will just be added to my account! So please make an account on The Cash Grab and get everyone some quick money.

If you are wondering how he gets money, the company's offers that you complete pay HIM money to pay US money so that there might be a small change the WE pay THEM money by staying with their service or w/e.

In conclusion, PLEASE sign up, you'll be doing everyone a favor. You could easily pay for WoW monthly or some other MMORPG without worrying about scratching up the money.

the numbers
the numbers
the numbers
the numbers
the numbers
the numbers

They add up to 108, whats the big deal?

Yea, I've been watching Lost. I'm up to the second episode of season 3 and I have to say I am addicted. Although like, half the twists in the show haven't been resolved, it is still fun to watch.

This might be the first blog in a while that does have anything to do with sex or sensual behavior. Oh wait, I just mentioned it. Screw that :-P

OK, lets see what I can blog about.

King Kong
Great movie, I love Jack Black, and his last line made me love the movie even more. The main chick is hot too, always a plus.

Altec Lansing
These guys make some pretty sweet speakers. Does anyone else have a problem with their subwoofers if you hold a cell phone up to them during a call? This is kinda getting on my nerves.

Apple
The new iPhone "hello" commercial beats the vista "wow" commercial by amount 1,000 points, 245 cookies, and a couple pies. What was Microsoft thinking?

Men on Men
I suspect a friend of mine might be gay and thinks I am gay but still in the closet. He is really cool and chill though so I hope it works out. I don't know how he gets his info about me though... to myself I kinda seem the most ungay person ever. (In no way am I putting down homosexuals. I respect everyones own personal sexual preferences 100%).

Men on Molly
Hehe, I liked that transaction. One of my old friends (who is not my friend anymore) hits on Molly like... all of the time. No one cares though because he is actually a man slut and everyone including him knows it. I just get kinda pissed at him sometimes even though hes chill around me, but whenever she comes in our vicinity, he goes crazy with cheesy flirtatious bullchips.

Molly on Me
I wish. Although not too far from what might happen this week.

Just to let the mods know, I have 500 comments, and if anyone could find a spare moment to update my badge that'd be awesome, Thanks!

Well, this blog needs to come to a stop right now.

Devirginized
Posted on February 17, 2007 at 21:24

No, I wasn't, it was my friend :)

He and his girlfriend are pretty much the perfect couple. He is 16 and she is 17, they both love each other, but in the workable way; it's not like a typical high school relationship where there is too little or too much love.

So, pretty much he comes up to me last friday and was like, "Dude, I got something to tell ya." And I said, "Haha, I'll bet you and [your girlfriend] had rampant sex before you came here." ...as a joke obviously.

He shakes his head and starts laughing...

Usually a joke like that would be followed by a short awkward silence and him mumbling "Shut up Foster," or something like that. But not this time. So I knew something was up.

I donno if this is as big a deal to anyone else but to us it was like WHOA-- WHAT!!

Translation:
Foster: So, you had sex with your GF... O RLY?!?!
Jack: YA RLY!!!
Foster: NO WAI!!!
Jack: YA WAI!!!
*Foster and Jack highfive*

So that was awesome, and I am really happy for him (maybe a tad jealous too) and his GF is really cool so I'm really glad they fit so well together.

In other news, I have a few freshmen that want to use my body for pleasure. Not going to go into details but I think I may have to stay away from them for now (except one because she is REALLLLLLY hot).

So, I hate blogs w/o pictures so here are some cool ones:
battlefield2142.ea.com/battlefield/bf2142/images/screenshots/BF2142pcSCRNonline5.jpg
That is a cinematic screenshot from BF2142 which looks SOOOO SICK

Here are my specs:

2.53Ghz P4
1 GB RAM
Radeon 9600XT 256MB

Will I be able to play it at all?

Thanks for reading, hopefully you all will be devirginized sooner or later. Pray for me ;)

*Goes off to find that hot freshman*

EXAMS = PWNED
Posted on January 19, 2007 at 12:34

My midterms... are over.

YES!!

This is so awesome, finally a new semester where I can just start over and have a clean, fresh slate.

So much has happened in these two deadly quarters of my school year it's unimaginable.

I think I am going to copy Dfortun81 and have a random poll on this blog just for fun.

1. What was your hardest exam (if you've had them yet)?
2. Do you have any awesome/interesting stories from the past semester?
3. Do you own an iPod?
4. What/Who is your favorite techno artist?
5. Do you have a Wii?
6. How much sleep did you get last night?
7. How many nights of this coming weekend will you be partying?
9. Did you notice that the 8th poll question is missing?
10. Do you have any relationship plans (or information)?

There, thats a good way to start off the new half-a-year. It'd be cool if I asked these exact questions at the end of the school year.

Maybe I will.

Here are my answers:

1) World Civilizations
2) The Molly incident, a cappella group forming, the musical, best friend finding his best girlfriend ever, me getting betters grades than usual, me hating second quarter, me discovering that I don't like salmon, me accumulating 6,222 songs on my 80 GB iPod, and last but not least, me having fun and making lots of new friends.
3) Yes, 80 GB.
4) Daft Punk
5) No. *growls*
6) 8 hours.
7) 3
9) No. Wait--- DAMNIT!
10) I consider myself sorta like a respectable man slut. Yes, it is pretty much an oxymoron but I will give it meaning. Don't worry I will keep you all informed.

Well, Sorry for the contentless blog, but if you aren't already my friend... I could use 4 more to get the last badge. But it's cool if you don't like me... in the words of Oscar Wilde, "Always forgive your enemies, that's what the hate the most."

The iPhone
Posted on January 09, 2007 at 20:21

Well, Apple has finally done it.

You won't be surprised

This is going to like, own EVERYTHING.

Here is a brief list of the stuff it features:

-Cut down version of OS X
-Rich HTML email (POP3 and IMAP)
-Visual Voicemail
-Widgets
-Wi-Fi
-Full Safari browsing
-4 or 8 GB flash memory for songs/photos/videos
-3.5" widescreen TOUCHSCREEN.
-Accelerometer to automatically switch to landscape or portrait viewing
-Motion and Ambient light sensor.
-2.0 Megapixel camera built in the back.
-"Multi-Touch" technology and a super smart and user friendly UI

That was just a touch on how awesome it is (pardon the pun) visit the site and watch the press release for more info. Steve Jobs' keynotes are always a treat to watch. It will be selling $499 for the 4 GB version and $599 for the 8 GB version.

So low and behold:

Smexy Banners?
Posted on January 08, 2007 at 19:07

I would like some popular vote on these new banners:

Just fooling around with photo shop, I really like the color blue :)

So, in other news, my new mission is to get every episode of Seinfeld EVER on my 80 gig iPod. So far I have seasons 5-9 and I am progressing quite nicely thanks to OpticalLiam and his free DVD ripper.

My Midterms are coming up next week and I have decided to put more time into working on a new GM project than to study.

Does anyone have any really fun online games they recommend? Me and my friend are playing WarRock a lot but are getting kinda annoyed by the beta's bugs and lack of features we might just wait for the commercial release to start playing again.

If anyone gives me a good professionally made free online games, you will be a surprise. Or if you want me to make you a banner (if you think I am good enough) then I would be glad to!

Thanks for reading my same-old-same-old blog!

Last.fm - Awesome
Posted on January 07, 2007 at 14:52

One of my friends from a forum recommended this site to me because they knew I was incredibly interested in music.

http://www.last.fm

If anyone has a favorite artist or style, this site is a community like 64digits that will pick out artists with similar music as your favorites. How does it detect what music you like?. Well, if you are practical and realize that some background program are well made and have absolutely no effect on your computers performance, you will install their program that "scrobbles" all the music you listen to in any music player you choose (I use iTunes). It sends the songs details to their server and updates your "dashboard" (or personal page). It first scans your library and looks to your more prominent genres of music and then creates a personal radio station for you that can be streamed through flash (in browser) or in their program.

If you have heard of Pandora it is very similar except you aren't limited to skips, the music library is a lot bigger, and there is the whole community aspect additionally.

You should really sign up and give it a try, it is 100% free and if you do, add me as your friend. I am foslock.

I am still finding out really cool options and features to this site so if you discover or know something that I you think I might not, please tell me.

Off topic: I got a 250 gb external HD for all my media. I only have 18 gigs of music and about 7 gigs of videos but it is just the right amount of space for me.

IF ANYONE KNOWS OF A FREE DVD RIPPER FOR PC (WINXP) PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I'M SURE YOU GUYS WILL HAVE ONE BUT I AM LESS FORTUNATE!

Thanks for reading, and until next time; eat, sleep, and be merry.

Dating friends! Xmas! New Year!
Posted on January 02, 2007 at 20:28

I've been helping my friend out who has been having some relationship problems of his own. I'll use my freedom as a blogger to bore you with the details.

They have been dating for a week or so and they have already hit some road-bumps. They both really like each other, but in completely different ways. The girl likes the guy because of his charm and he makes her happy. The guy likes the girl because she is really nice and really attractive. The girl doesn't really have any physical attraction for the guy, but it is quite the opposite for the guy.

This has and will lead to more dilemmas and I will try to fill y'all in who are interested in my social life. I am great friends with both the girl and guy so I try to give them as much positive advice as possible.

I had a sweet X-mas, my dad got me and my a capella group a professional recording session with an old local co-worker of his and we are excited for that. Also ordered a 250gb external HD for all my media because my puny 80gb internal is filled with various crap.

Also got a sweet bass pedal that can add super cool effects to my bass. It can also play like 80 preset drum beats so I can jam along with them.

Hope everyone had an awesome new year, I had a party at my house and for all of those who are wondering, Yes, Molly was there. PM me if you want details. There were about 8 of us and we watched the fireworks and had a really sweet party (no substances).

And to conclude this blog, I have to include some random photo found on google images:

This isn't mine, but I think I have enough for a Wii... but holy crap they are flying off the shelves like hotcakes.

Winter Ball; AKA rape.
Posted on December 22, 2006 at 13:44

So Winter ball was last night. And all I can say is:

Giggidy Giggidy.

If any of you have taken long enough to understand my personality, I am considered the "friendly man whore." This is fine with me because it usually involves me getting way more action than I deserve (not entirely true).

Ok, well I am going to assume that you all have been to at least one high school dance before and you'll have great stories to tell. This dance was different because nothing out of the norm happened. Of course there were some students surfing the crowd like they're not supposed to, but that was about it.

Now, enough about EVERYONE else's time. I pretty much got raped on more than one occasion, mostly attractive, some not so much.

Is it weird if a girl grabs for your crotch when your grinding with her? And then slap it? Kinda hurt, so I slapped her back in the crotch.

If anyone has read my previous blogs they'll know 'bout Molly and how I screwed up. Well, the "Peace compromise" is still in effect which means neither me or my friend can really hit on her. We both agreed to this.

So, the only reason I am really blogging is because it took every ounce of willpower in me to not make any moves on her. She was being incredibly flirtatious and I (personally) have no doubt that if me and my friend hadn't made this compromise, she would have been glad to "go somewhere" once again.

I am proud of myself though, and I have to say that I feel like a good person because everyone is somewhat happy instead of feelings being polarized and ruined.

I did get to slow dance with her though, and she was doing the whole embraced-slow-dance-while-tickling-your-back-and-getting-as-close-as-possible-to-me.

It was awesome.
Here are some new PS things I've been working on, they are for my friend and I's clan:

Any other good High School dance stories? Middle school dances suck so don't talk about those :-P

Photoshop Gone Wild
Posted on December 15, 2006 at 18:19

I've been trying to get a little more experienced with PS: CS2 since I have it. Here are some things that I've made in the mean time:

^^Just a huge tile of some grass, this is really easy to do.

^^Really cool effect that took longer than I expected to make.
64digits.com/users/foslock/itscold.png
^^Hehe, if any of you are making an 'ice' related game...

^^I really like this one even though it didn't come out as I planned.

^^My banner, which I personally love.

So there you go, a crap load of HUGE pictures that probably haven't loaded yet.

To add some other content to this blog, I am hanging out with an old friend tonight and we plan to have good times (no, not Molly, but yes, a girl).

I was sick yesterday and missed maybe the most important day of school, according to my friends. This makes me angry, but since Fridays Rule it doesn't have such a huge effect on me.

Well, there you go, 2 blogs in 2 days. What more could you ask for? Oh ya... forgot...

Pie.

Well, screw it, you might as well get your X-mas present early!

If you don't laugh at these...
Posted on December 14, 2006 at 20:29

I was lucky enough to stumble across some of my bands recordings last year.

First, lemme give you the lowdown on our band:

Me (Foster): I am the bassist, and at this point, I had almost no idea what I was doing. I could sorta walk a line and figure out chord tones in about 10 seconds. Not too good...

Isaac (Trumpet): This kid actually practices and knows how to play his instrument. He has his own business (at the age of 15): http://www.megasitesdesign.com He's cool.

Jack (Tenor Sax/Vocal): He is like me (at that time) and doesn't really know too much about jazz and improv but he can sure play his sax and isn't half bad at making up crappy techno lyrics.

Wheelz (Real name: Alan, Alto Sax): A natural and is good at pretty much anything he tries. Really cool kid and he had a fro at one time. He is a white Jew.

Joe (Drummer/Tenor): He is musical at heart and enjoys studying the history of music. He plays almost any instrument we throw at him. Really cool kid.

Chris (Piano): He hadn't been at any of our practices and didn't really know what he was doing. Cool kid though, and he can play pretty well. (he has been replaced).

OK, well here are the mp3's... and the first one Isaac edited and you'll be able to here where.

Perdido (edited)
Mr. PC
Techno Song (Jam)

Now that your on the floor laughing, you'll be happy to hear that this weekend we will hopefully be recorded some new tunes that will BLOW YOUR MIND! Those previous ones were recorded about 2 years ago and we think we are a lot better.

Thanks for reading, and I hope you will tune in next time to hear more of our bands crazy shenanigans.

EDIT: I was bored and made a new banner. Just testing my PS skills.

Fridays Rule
Posted on December 08, 2006 at 18:00

Do you know that sweet feeling after completing a stressful week of school?

It's called Friday. Yes, this day is so beautiful that it emits a feeling that can be taken up by humans. I am so glad...

So glad that it's Friday.

And you know what Friday night means? A potential party! What does Saturday night mean? ANOTHER PARTY!

As you can see, I really don't enjoy school, which I am sorry to those who claim originality to that topic but I feel so obligated to tell you how much it sucks.

One of my friends got her wisdom teeth out and I feel really bad for her because they are going to start swelling tomorrow (a Saturday!!) and she can't eat like... anything.

For those who care, I am working on The Console 2 because I was just so smart enough to write over the GM6 file of The Console and pretty much delete everything in it. So you should look forward to that. Also, I want to talk to a mod about if it is long/hard enough (chuckle) then maybe a badge can be awarded for winning? Maybe?

Or maybe not, I could just dreaming.

If your reading this, you probably noticed my 10/10 badge for a game. I think it's for Stealth -Online TDS- so if you want you can download it.

Well, that's it for now:

The Coolest Number Ever
Posted on December 02, 2006 at 15:31

I have discovered the coolest number ever.

We were in Algebra 2 and we were reviewing complex fractions and exponents.

0 to the 0th power, has no mathematical meaning.

Let me explain: Any number (besdies 0) to the 0th power is one.

x^n * x^0 = x^n (x^n+0)

This shows that since the product is equal to one of the factors, the other factor is 1. So this shows that every number to the 0th power is 1.

BUT! This is the cool part. 0^0 should be 0, but it also should be 1. It can not be infinity or negative infinity... so it has NO mathematical meaning. If you don't believe me, ask your teacher and make sure they are teaching high school, you'd be surprised how many middle school/elementary teachers have no idea what they're talking about.

I was really bored one day and made this cool little photoshopped image:

Again, this is definitively the coolest number.

War Rock -- Awesome FPS
Posted on November 27, 2006 at 20:15

Best... Free... Game... Ever...

I recently downloaded this game after a mad spree looking for a new FPS to delve myself into. I came across this in a google search and downloaded it out of curiosity. I looked at the screen shots and realized this could be a potential good game.

Anything I read about it said it was like Battlefield 2 + Counter-Strike. CS has been a favorite of mine since the beginning but I had always heard bad things about BF 2. After I downloaded the 400 megabyte beta client, I realized how awesome this really was.

I installed, and made an account (Foslock, lol) and started playing. At first, the interface was kind of a turnoff because I didn't know that this was in it's Beta phase. It is somewhat confusing and not very well explained.

This game is 100% online, and there is no single player. I am used to that and assumed correctly. When I started to play, I was simply stunned at how good the graphics looked. Even on my somewhat shitty Radeon 9600XT, the graphics looked almost as good as CS: S. Definitally not as good, but all the effects are present like HDR and a lot of other doodads.

The movement engine is more like BF but the weapon system is more like CS: S. For every online game you complete you get a certain amount of fake money. You can use this money to 'lease' guns for a certain amount of time (3 - 15 realtime days). This gave it sort of a MMO feel. Also, for every game you complete, and do well, you get more EXP which in turn levels you up. Nothing really happens when you level up except you get a new shiny badge.

Just like 64Digits :)

So pretty much, you all should download it, and even though it is glitchy, it is SO much fun. There are like 15 vehicles including a motorbike, a helicopter, and a wide assortment of tanks.

Look for me ...Foslock... if you are cool enough to download.

For anyone who's wondering, the final "commercial" release comes out early next year, and it will STILL be free, but there will be an option to pay and get some 'bonus' features.

Please download it. IT'S SO AWESOME!!

I'm glad I am not a Mod
Posted on November 22, 2006 at 16:52

I was just reading up on some of Flashback's blogs and realized that I am pretty happy that I am not a moderator of any sorts.

First thing you probably think is Aww, I'd be so cool to be a mod, you get to be in control of everything, and everyone loves you!.

Sure, that's true but when do any of the mods really use their power to their advantage. It's always for the better of the community or the right thing that anyone would do. They never (or at least obviously) abuse their power in their benefit.

Also, they have to mod all the games, blogs, the forum, and any comment EVER on this entire site. That's a lot of stuff to do. That plus school, social life, family, and ... and school is a crap load of work!

I think that when we give thanks tomorrow in honor of our ancestors, we should say a short thing about the mods at 64Digits and how awesome they are, and how they took the hard jobs from us relaxed, laid back commoners.

Thank you mods... you make 64D turn round.

EDIT: I MISSED MY 1337 HITS, GAAAH!!!

Good times, Bad times
Posted on November 21, 2006 at 15:40

I had the most confusing night of my life on Sunday. I'll copy and paste a conversation with a friend of mine that pretty much sums up the entire night:

Quote
The Convo is now Censored. (writers choice)

So pretty much, I gave oral to one of my good female friends and ruined one of my best guy friend's vacation. On the plus side, I did have a really hot naked girl on top of me, yet on the down side, it was the wrong thing for me to do.

P.S. I didn't receive any action, myself, I just gave it which is perfectly alright with me.

Any other similar situations?

This shouldn't be happening...
Posted on November 10, 2006 at 07:16

Uhh, this is the first time this has ever happened to me and I am lonely here :(

Hehe, well thats nothing important.

I think I'm gonna start learning 39dll because I've had enough of mplay and its shenanigans. It's slow, unreliable, and just not as good as the dlls that are out. Sorry Mark, but of course, the multi player aspect of GM wasn't really a main focus for you (I'm guessing) so I assume you didn't spend TOO much time on it.

I'm waiting patiently for GM7 beta or something of the sort to pop its head out from behind GM's website.

Also, I am in an A cappella group and my are signing My Girl, Longest Time, Breakfast at Tiffany's, and Semi-Charmed Life.

Yay for beat boxing and harmonizing!

Well, this has been certainly a random blog but post what you will!

Really cool statistics
Posted on October 28, 2006 at 22:24

I get Time magazine at my dads house and it always has really little tid-bits or facts about the world. The current issue gives us a load of numbers about the average person in the US.

Item - Number sold per day
Porsche 911's - 34
iPods - 88,163
Barbie Dolls - 125,000
Trojan ultra-thin condoms - 123,287
12 oz. cans of pepsi - 50,051,507
Dell Laptops - 20,826
Twinkies - 500,000
Pregnancy Tests - 14,100
12 oz. serving of Bud Light - 35,079,448
Pampers - 300,000
20 oz. Bottle of Aquifina Water - 8,179,726
Burger King Whoppers - 2,400,000
Domino's Pepperoni pizzas - 536,000
Federal Express packages shipped - 6,000,000
Hot Wheels Mini cars - 150,000
lbs. of starbucks - 153,424
Axe Phoenix body spray - 28,876

Very cool stats, and I would never imagine that the number of condoms is only 1.5 times more than iPods. Very cool though.

I just got this awesome new 2.1 speaker system for my computer/iPod and the subwoofer is awesome. The tweeters are smaller than I would have hoped but they still pack a huge punch. I think I got the bang for my buck. Literally.

Well, I still am kinda obsessed with 64digits and come back here like every five minutes when I have nothing to do. But I'm working on that :)

Blog Entry Badges?
Posted on October 23, 2006 at 20:41

I was just browsing the badge archive and I was wondering what happened to the blog entry badges:

- 250
- 150
- 100
- 50
- 15
- 5

Sorry if I wasn't supposed to be browsing around back there... but I couldn't help but wonder.

Other Stuff: I just submitted another example to 64Digits, my destructable terrain example. It's old and uses objects splitting into smaller objects but it runs and noobs might find a use for it. Also, it reminds me of liero, a kick-a$$ DOS game.

Well, not much more for this blog except that I might be selling my old MTG rares for about $130 and I'm excited. I actually know they're worth about double or triple that, but no one is gonna buy them. Unless any of you want them :-P?

Thanks for reading, take care!

GML Question, realted to ds_grids
Posted on October 20, 2006 at 17:21

Hey, I have a question for the 64d crowd. I consider myself an experienced GMer but I have failed to learn about data structures. So I decided that I would teach myself. I'm starting with grids, and I am making a game like bejeweled. So far so good, I've gotten it to relate the type of gem to the grid place but I need some help with something.

How do I quickly check for gems in a combination. I pretty much need it to check for 3 or more in a row or column or diagonal. This sounds really, really tough and I have made a script that sorta does half of what I want:

var i,ii;

for (i=0;i(lessthan)ds_grid_width(global.grid);i+=1)
for (ii=0;ii(lessthan)ds_grid_height(global.grid);ii+=1)
{
if ds_grid_get_max(global.grid,i,ii,i+2,ii) != 0
if ds_grid_get_max(global.grid,i,ii,i+2,ii) = ds_grid_get_min(global.grid,i,ii,i+2,ii)
return 1;
if ds_grid_get_max(global.grid,i-2,ii,i,ii) != 0
if ds_grid_get_max(global.grid,i-2,ii,i,ii) = ds_grid_get_min(global.grid,i-2,ii,i,ii)
return 2;
if ds_grid_get_max(global.grid,i-1,ii,i+1,ii) != 0
if ds_grid_get_max(global.grid,i-1,ii,i+1,ii) = ds_grid_get_min(global.grid,i-1,ii,i+1,ii)
return 2;
if ds_grid_get_max(global.grid,i,ii,i,ii+2) != 0
if ds_grid_get_max(global.grid,i,ii,i,ii+2) = ds_grid_get_min(global.grid,i,ii,i,ii+2)
return 4;
if ds_grid_get_max(global.grid,i,ii-2,i,ii) != 0
if ds_grid_get_max(global.grid,i,ii-2,i,ii) = ds_grid_get_min(global.grid,i,ii-2,i,ii)
return 5;
if ds_grid_get_max(global.grid,i,ii-1,i,ii+1) != 0

I really have no way to test this and I need some outside help. If JakeX is feeling particulaly gracious he might help me out because I know he did this in ColumnsX.

Any help is much appreciated and would get me one step closer to releasing the WIP. Not that anyone would really care, but the feeling that you just helped someone would remain in your heart Happy.

Thanks for atleast reading this.

New iPod, 80 GB
Posted on October 18, 2006 at 21:29

I just got a new GB iPod for my 16th birthday (yay me) and it's pretty awesome! It can hold around 20,000 songs and the battery life is the best out of all the ipods.

What I was worried about was the size but since I have an old B&W 20 GB to compare, even though the 80 GB is 4x the amount of HD space, it is slightly smaller than the 20 GB.

Off Topic: What's with everyone using the usertag all of the sudden, it's kinda getting really annoying. There are some good funny or serious uses for it, but it's in the last like 10 most recent blogs. Too many.

I also got a really cool suede sport jacket because I needed something stylish to go along with my suit. Another interesting gift was a binary clock, which I learned how to read fairly quickly. Oh, and I think I finally have enough money to get a new computer for my dad's house to replace this old iMac. Sorry apple, your products don't last forever. But this iPod is really sweet.

Thanks for caring,
-Foslock-

Study Halls
Posted on October 13, 2006 at 14:41

I am a sophomore at a lone school in Burlington, VT. The administration had the smart idea of giving free blocks to sophomores last year. At the end of the day, if they had a free block (last 3/2 of the day) then they would just leave. Obviously, this is what would happen.

But the teachers, being smart as they are, didn't realize that this was happening. They thought all the students would stay at school and wait till the last bell rang. How stupid can you get?

So, this year, they only give free blocks to people who are a junior and over while I get screwed into a lame study hall block 4. Holy crap, you don't know how boring it is. So far, I have installed GM on my network drive and have been working on my GM stuff which is nice. It actually gives me more time to work and I enjoy it so why not waste the pointless time with GM.

Therein lies the problem, these comps (which I am blogging from now) are "new." They have a 3 Ghz Pentium D processor with 1 gb of ram. Not too bad. But the graphics card on the other hand, is some random crappy Intel onboard video card. It is so crappy, it can't even handle GM's surfaces correctly. And yes, DX9c is installed and everything.

So it really is a Win-Lose situation; I get to work on my games, but I could be at home or hanging out with friends. I would prefer the latter most days. Also, since everything in GM that I use pretty much revolves around surfaces, it isn't helpful that I can't fully test my games.

Oh well, next year I will have some fun :)

Btw, I am shooting for 1k hits soon. If you are feeling pleasent, download Portal (see my games) and review it. Please.

64digits doesn't exist?

Pic here, taking up too much space

Portal has been released as a WIP, please DL and review!

Hehe, you should figure out how I did that just by looking at the address bar :)

I am still working on Portal and it's coming along, but it is really really weird, on the computers at school, the portals don't show up correctly (the computers are nice except for the internal GFX cards, Pentium D's 3.0Ghz). On my computer and on every other one I have tested on it works fine though.

If you could test it here: Download Portal Demo That'd be great!

I am going to be doing a 'Job Shadow' for my career's class this friday. The dude I am shadowing works at my school as the main Tech Support guy. I think that if I was ever to get a temporary job that I enjoyed, this would be the best thing to try out. It's pretty just gonna be me following him around and watching him fix some computers and tell the comp-illiterate teachers what they are doing wrong.

Wish me luck, and suggestions for portal would be great!

Portals, Surfaces, and sheer Luck
Posted on October 10, 2006 at 18:09

So, I am experimenting with surfaces a lot more often than usual and after seeing Valve's Portal, I was extremely tempted to duplicate it in GM. Too bad it can't be 3D, but 2D is good enough, it'd still be an awesome game. So I created a little start of a game and got kinda into it. Here is the deal:

1) I start with the screen being draw to a surface every end step
2) Then, the importal shows the part of the surface, where the outportal is.
3) This worked for me the first time, but only because I had coded something I could never have logically applied.

This shouldn't actually work because since I have it drawing from the surface, and the surface drawing from the screen, and there are things on the screen (portal effects) the importal should show what was displayed on right before the outportal was created. This would make an infinite loop of drawing the same thing so therefor it wouldn't work.

I know that is extremely confusing but it took me an entire hour and a half in study hall to figure it out so don't feel stupid if you don't understand. So, I just continued working with my "engine-o-luck" as I called it and have a little demo for ya'll to try out: Download Portal Demo. Please try it and gives some suggestions for effects/levels. I am trying to use all of my own sprites (except backgrounds) so I probably won't accept sprites, yet graphical suggestions are really appreciated.

Thanks for reading and I know it's been a while since I blogged, but So long, and Farewell!

It's coming, IT'S COMING!
Posted on September 20, 2006 at 21:54

It's coming November 19th for $250. It will be a day of judgement, 2 days after the PS3 comes out. Once the PS3's are off the shelf, people will start buying Wii's, clever marketing on nintendos part I think. But thats off the point.

I can understand how people could think the new controller is stupid but that's just their personal taste. Maybe they enjoy sitting still while playing game more than me, but I think the controller is gonna rock. It's just like a mouse that responds to more than the 2D axis's. If I am thinking correctly, none of my friends have ever used something like it before that matches it's manufacturing quality (excluding crappy sword-arcade games).

Plus, if you don't like the controller then you can always just use a GC controller (or they are coming out with another similar to the GC one if you prefer new stuff). Really, there is nothing to hate about it, the graphics are going to be comparable to the Xbox 360's and anything in the PS3 range is just pointless because detail can only go so far before it becomes unnecessarily detailed. On my game making forum, one of the key theories is that any game can be great without amazing graphics, but a bad game with amazing graphics will not be fun. The PS3 is stepping into that sanctum. But I still like their games and they have yet to cross the line.

I think nintendo stopped improving their graphics at the GC with few upgrades to the Wii because they realized it really doesn't matter what your looking at as much as it matter what your doing. I don't want to list those games again but GamerGirl had a ton of great examples that were all different games (even if some characters were the same) and all fun to play.

Some cool features the Wii will have is WiiConnect24 which is the internet service that will be connected 24/7 if it can find a WiFi signal, even if the Wii is turned off (there will be small rechargable battery, i think, though I am not sure how they will be doing this). You will be able to download your old favorites from SNES-N64 for all less than $10 which is translated into Wii points. You can but Wii points with a credit cards and they will be $1 - a Wii point. The points, I personally find very unnecessary because you could just be paying with money.

The DVD drive will play audio CD's, audio/video DVD's, Wii DVD games, and Gamecube Mini-CD games. They did not include either HD-DVD or Blu-Ray so they could keep the cost of the system under $300. Another cool feature is that if you have a DS, certain games and info can be shared between them. The internet browser on the Wii will be Opera based.

I am really excited for this to come out because it opens a whole new realm of game play that has yet to be experienced by all of us (unless you went to E3). Go Wii and Nintendo!!

Holy crap, that was like... totally blog worthy...

God saw that the light was good
Posted on September 02, 2006 at 10:36

and He separated the light from the darkness.

That is exactly what my new engine tries to accomplish. It isn't as good as geargod's or phienoxes (sp?) but if you want an easy implimented lighting engine in your game, come to me. I will put it in for you. Just send me the gm6, and I will reupload it with the lighting engine added, nothing else changed. And of course, any questions you ask will be answered by me and I will try to explain how it works as well as I can so that if you want to add or change something yourself, you can without fail.

That is a screen taken from my example where I tried to get all the aspects of it in one screen. You can download the EXE here and play around with the lights if you want.

Some things that my engine lacks so far are multiple light sources, that use shadows, you can have normal lights but only one so far can cast shadows; smooth shadow edges, where the edge of the shadow isn't solid, its a gradient; and other things that make it look even more spiffy.

Some good things about this is that it has incredible speeds that can't really be beat; I will put it in your game for you if you want; and it looks good enough as it is. Great for games that require stealthy movement or sneaking.

Please give your comment or suggestions. If you want to help out with this, please just IM me (slip2madness) or send me a PM.

Thanks!

My Brother, is a Robot
Posted on August 26, 2006 at 11:30

Ok, this blog may scare you, or even make your eyes water with glistening tears. But what's done is done. My brother... is a robot. His voice has gone all metallic and he has turned a shade of shimmering sliver.

From the day he was born, he has shown robotic qualities like eating metal, playing with metal, and slept for inhuman amounts of time. But now, at the fine age of 9, he has finally become his maker. I present something that may curdle your milk, make your bowels invoulentary loosen, OR EVEN SEND YOUR SOUL TO HELL!!

Not really, but here is one of the coolest things my little bro has even done:

He has little holes on the top, and bottom of each side so nothing can get by him. But my favourite part of it is the hand pump he taped in that he calls 'Air Conditioning'. He is a pretty cool brother, and maybe someday I will give him the Man to Boy talk................................. about Game maker Very happy.

I really like pushing him over which may sound cruel... but he just gets up and comes right back over to me, as if he enjoys it. *Pushes him over again*

Essex, VT Shooting
Posted on August 25, 2006 at 11:50

Hey, It's me again, w/ my 3rd blog... and I have to report really bad news. I live in Burlington, VT if you were wondering... about 5 or 6 miles away from there. Also, My aunt used to teach at that school.

Four Essex Elementary School teachers were shot today in the school, while preparing for the new school year, that would have started in 6 days as of today. But, after a crazy man with a gun decided to kill 2 and injure 2 of these teachers... school is most likely going to be postponed.

Vermont is not a state that is prone to violence and shootings but since this event, people have started to wonder if Vermont's peaceful reputation is going down the drain.

If you want details on the shooting, go here: Burlington Free Press

Luckily, the shooter was apprehended after shooting himself in the head (which somehow he survived) and is being held without bail. Yesterday, before I had heard about this, I spotted two black sudans speeding down the highway in front of me (while I was driving, exploiting my permit, me being 15) and suddenly their taillights started flashing with countless lights under the back windshield flashing as well. They were going probably 90-100 mph as they sped away from in front of me. Gave me a good test of pulling over to the shoulder while in the left land.

There were pictures in the newspaper of these exact cars except with S.W.A.T. team officers escorting people out of the school.

Please give your feelings, and sorrow for these 2 poor souls.

Thanks.

Windows Vista
Posted on August 22, 2006 at 17:06

Computer Specs:
Pentium 4 2.53 Ghz
1 Gb of PC2100 RAM
ATI Radeon 9600XT 256 Mb
80 Gb HD (65 gb and 15 gb partitions)
Windows Vista 5384 Beta 2

I recently installed Windows Vista (aka longhorn) and started an epic journey that some might call... BETA TESTING!

Ahem...

Now first, I'll start with installing it onto my 15 gig partition. It began with a quick restart of my computer, whos specs are at the beginning of this post, and I was welcomed by a colorful screen comprised of a multicolor gradient, not looking anything like XP's installer (Thank god). Now, after I completed the install in 20 MINUTES I realized how much better it was than XP's installer... so much better and not even running the OS yet :). When I booted into Vista, the screen started with the Vista logo glowing like a sun that brightened into the login screen. A login screen that looked a lot like Mac OS X's... although I am not hinting anything *cough*. I logged in and the screen faded to black, and faded to my desktop in around 3 seconds. Surprisingly faster than my recently formatted XP partition. I explored with the personalization and wasn't surprised to find Microsoft styled backgrounds waiting for my use (sand blowing on mars and etc.). Vista took up 7-8 gb's on space.

I installed some of my favorite programs (including Game Maker) like Daemon Tools, Limewire, and Firefox, which all ran well. Except for Game Maker. It's games wouldn't run when I opened them, or even ran the gm6. I was dissapointed because GM is one of my most used programs, which I found unfourtunate.

Now, onto my installation of the Verizon Online software. I tried, and tried, and tried but it always froze when detecting my hadware settings. No doubt, obviously it doesn't know Vista exists and froze detecting the operating system or something else related.

On the more positive side of Vista, When I tried playing Half-Life: Episode 1, it actually ran faster than XP did, not much more, maybe a 5-10 FPS difference, but that is still a difference. Also, old games like Starcraft: Brood War ran perfectly, with the occasional color invert, but that is just because ATI doesn't have full drivers out for Vista yet. Atleast when I downloaded them.

From then on I have used Vista on occasion but remain loyal to XP due to the lack of GM on the former. I am excited for RC1 to come out, which is schedualed to be released to public which I plan on installing shortly. Maybe GM will run on that :).

If you have a questions, just ask! I'll be happy to answer them, and if you want to try Vista, Download it here.

Very Merry Theatre
Posted on July 26, 2006 at 08:01

I have just started this camp I have done each year that is with my old middle school drama director where he leads a group of 20-30 people during one week in learning a certain he chooses or writes. This year however, I have started as a counselor, only 15 years old.

There are 3 sessions, each with a different age group, and I am helping out with the oldest group (13-18). Luckily, there isn't anyone more than a month older than me (and if they are, I am taller, and probably more experienced acting-wise).

This year, we are doing an Alice in Wonderland production with some music written Don (the director) that was surprisingly better than I expected. He usually takes plays, and "Donifies" them which pretty much means he makes them as crazy and different from the original as possible. As you can imagine, Alice in Wonderland (already an acid trip) is going to be a very interesting play to watch because the animated movie was, well, animated... and we aren't. Wish us luck. Don and I are the only backstage crew because everyone else is IN the play so we will have the big job of being the crew as well as assisting with anything that isn't onstage. Unless there is a scene change, then we need to work onstage too.

Well, we will be touring around Vermont (where I live) and performing this play probably about 13 times this year and a few more next year. He likes to squeeze as much as he can out of every play he does, but he's awesome.

Thanks for reading this random blog, but I have nothing else to do, maybe I'll work on my sudoku...
