Squiggle mouse around while going WEEEEEEEEEEEE3EEEEEEEEEEEEE, except make sure you've killed anyone around before doing so. Else you'll be killed for being a general nuisance. Trust me, I know

(If you're like Halibutski, you'll want to go to the create event and set len to 1 and seg to something big like 9001)

Glad to see such a shabby presentation taken well. Hope it shows that an example can do with only a few lines
(As for Obel's question...bleh)

Completely useless in my eyes. Won't rate it coz everyone else likes it so much.

Ever see rope physics?
You could use it to have a snake foe thing have a natural coil like nature. Just would require extension. My examples are made minimalistic, so this would only be the core of an engine

This engine is pretty cool. It would be awesome if you added gravity to the rope. 9/10

So little code, so much done. Especially good looking if one shortens the segments.

The maths are good. Neat coding.

var v;tx=mouse_x;ty=mouse_y
v=0;while(v<=seg){
an[v]=arctan2(ty-yy[v],tx-xx[v])
tx-=cos(an[v])*len;ty-=sin(an[v])*len
v+=1}

Fugly.

George, go be a maximalist/capitalist on your own time. Me and Halib will go have fun being minimalist commies with practical modifications
@Alert Wheel=Glad you see the possible extension of a tight core
And Dave,
Quote: I've done fuglier
global.bdrw.pol=((global.bdrw.pol<<3)+pol)/9;pol=sign(pol);en=min(en,255)
v2=1;repeat(global.bid){draw_sprite(8+global.bid[v2,2],0,global.bid[v2,0],global.bid[v2,1])
global.bid[v2,0]+=global.bid[v2,3];global.bid[v2,1]+=global.bid[v2,4];draw_sprite(5+global.bid[v2,2],0,global.bid[v2,0],global.bid[v2,1])
if global.bid[v2,0]>v1.x-32&&global.bid[v2,0]<v1.x+32&&global.bid[v2,1]>v1.y-32&&global.bid[v2,1]<v1.y+32&&global.bid[v2,2]=v1.pol&&pol!=0{sound_play(fir);en+=8;sco+=10;global.bid[v2,0]=0}
if global.bid[v2,1]>y-8&&global.bid[v2,1]<y+8&&global.bid[v2,0]>x-8&&global.bid[v2,0]<x+8&&(global.bid[v2,2]!=pol||pol=0){event_user(0);break}

I made a variation of your code
Code

xx[sec]=mouse_x
yy[sec]=mouse_y
for(n=sec-1;n>=0;n-=1)
    {
    x1=xx[n]
    y1=yy[n]
    x2=xx[n+1]
    y2=yy[n+1]
    an=point_direction(x2,y2,x1,y1)
    xx[n]=xx[n+1]+lengthdir_x(len,an)
    yy[n]=yy[n+1]+lengthdir_y(len,an)
    }

makes the snake free, and it looks even more awesome.
