6 Years of Game Maker - Castlevania By George (2005)

I consider this my very, very first (somewhat) complete game that I ever made in Game Maker. Between mid-2004 and 2005, my Games folder was filled with projects that I never finished. Whenever I play this game, I'm surprised to see that I actually had a sense of level design, and the game can get pretty difficult (even for me D:).

This game is based on a really odd dream I had, and the story should explain some of it. It also borrows some elements from Super Mario XP, a game I used to play a lot. Though just a head's up, the game is extremely localized (hence the references to very specific locations within my old hometown). If you can't stand wanna-be retro graphics, noobishly-written dialogue, and misused Castlevania music, then I suggest not playing this game.

Arrow Keys - move
Shift - Jump
Ctrl - Punch
Space - Use weapon

WARNING: this game has a lot of glitches: weapons don't move if you press Space and Ctrl at the same time, moving platforms are very "slippery", and you can "grab" onto ceilings - a feature that is necessary to beat some levels.

Hmm, no reviews yet? Actually they wouldn't really matter for this game, especially since it is very unpolished. I mean come on, cut me some slack, I was only 13 years old when I made this.

I guess this is a good time to say that I heavily considered remaking this game for Rez's Halloween compo, but I seriously don't have the time. Perhaps next year. :P

well it's nice to see people - other than me - who like classic CV. this was pretty funny though. the walking animation had me laughing and the skeletons movement lol.

i played through up till the boss, couldn't figure out what i was supposed to do. there were a few bugs, like touching the ceiling as you mentioned, got very uncomfortable. the hold-jump to bounce repeatedly always annoys me in GM games.

the graphics weren't that great. the town was pretty bad looking but showed some effort, the forest was actually pretty decent. the enemies didn't match the background, such as the skeletons only using one color.

overall, it was fun for about 5 minutes, very short amount of lives so when i got to the boss it was Game Over quickly lol. it's a pretty damn good game for being made by a 13 year old though =D

When you get to the first boss, you're supposed to pick up the Axe power-up and start throwing them at the boss by pressing Space. He should go down after about 20 hits. If you're having trouble, you can edit the GM6 and set the lives to -1 in Objects>Misc.>start.

Also, for my next 6 Years of Game Maker release, I'm fixing the walking animation, because they are fucking hilarious.

Good for a 13 year old :)

It wasn't too bad for an early game. Better than my first anyway.
Not much more to say that hasn't been said already...

Well then that means that I just plain sucked at Game Maker when I was 13...

...showoff. >_>

i say age is a great excuse =P
most people aren't as knowledgeable and intelligent and don't have much experience at 13. it makes sense that they're creations wouldn't be as great as they will be 5 years later.

but hell this totally beats anything i made at 13 lol i wasn't very motivated than xD nothing but bad fan games and cheesy edits x_x

Doesn't matter, I bet this game is still better than the ones that were submitted for the Halloween compo.
