Particle Designer

This program does not require that you know GML. All you have to do is copy and paste the particle, or import the script using Game Maker. :) It is the alternative to tweaking the code and testing he game over and over. User-friendly interface makes it easy to create, and view your particle with all aspects of the particle system that don't involve other particles(ex: not part_type_death). It also includes emitter settings and a codebox to design your particle. You may find that Game Maker's particle system is actually more than what you may think. I hope that you find this program very helpful for you! :)

That was extremely well done. I made a really cool particle effect, click here if you would like to see.

Ah, I've seen this one on gmc, it's simply awesome.
I'm using this in every game I make using particles.
Pure perfection.
10/10
melee-master commented October 13, 2006 at 8:58 PM
Heh. Same here. I'm too lazy to go and write tons of particle functions with values that I constantly have to test and stuff.

Very nice, smooth easy and fully custimizable. Just what I like. =P 10/10

I don't know if you recieved my reply in the gmc forums, but good work. The particle designer allows for great visualization of particle systems. Be sure to check your code in the next version. Your export option does the exporting but returns an error. I just ignore it but it is a minor distraction. Other than that Great work.

Great! Only thing I felt like missing is explanation on what some of those checkboxes do. I mean, you can figure it out, but it would be nicer with descriptions. Tooltips maybe? Other than that it's great! 9/10

Easily the best thing to go with Game Maker ever.
oliv commented October 15, 2006 at 4:59 AM
Oh wow, particles just became part of my games. Now I don't have to learn another aspect of GM =]

10/10

Oh, the menu could be a little slicker (dynamic, pretty), but the interface is good.

Oh. Nice idea. I should try that.

I'm guessing you're talking about the preferences. Yeah, I should try to do that. Thanks for the feedback. ;)

seems a bit glitchy, i sort of dislike the way u enter the numbers.

but its still brilliant

AAAHHH!!! its #1 now :S

Wow, EXTREMELY easy to use, and EXTREMELY well done. 10/10. :)
Alert Games commented October 24, 2006 at 8:20 PM
The #1 thing I would change is the input boxes. Due to Game Maker's weird real values, its better to save the inputed amount as a string and execute it as a real value. It would take a lot of work though. Even though I did use parents.

Also, this program is going Head 2 Head! Held by the leader of GM Mag something, against a program that is similar to mine, except it is more professional looking graphically, has the emitters, deflectors, etc, however harder to use, and doesnt havea code box. I'll be sure to make a blog about the results. ;)

Very useful!

I know this mabye asking alot, but i think that the next version should be able to edit multiple particles at the same time, ie. if you wanted to design an explosion, you could work on the fire, sparks and smoke, and test them together, rather than having two copies of the program running.

And the number fields are a bit tricky to use, but I know how difficult it is to have textboxes with highlighting and such, so each one should have little up and down arrows next to them, so you can bump values up and down quikly.

Other than that its great! 8/10
Alert Games commented November 09, 2006 at 8:29 PM
First off, version 2 is being worked on. ;) (see my blog)

Second, having little arrows would not be good. If I did that, it would be very crowded in the settings menu. It will also slow down the designer considerably.

Third, in an earlier comment here, I stated that it would have been better to display a string instead of a value in the box, however doing so would take a long number of hours to complete. It is possible , however.

cool
SleepinJohnnyFish commented January 15, 2007 at 9:35 PM
Just now I saved one to the clipboard and it didn't include the particle system creation line, so it gave an error that it was missing Sname. Look into that.

10/10 anyway
Alert Games commented February 09, 2007 at 8:12 PM
Well, I'm not sure is v1.2 has the option, but in preferences, there is an option to export the system code ot not. If not it is in v2

the reason why is because maybie you don't need the system code and just the particle. ;)
Polystyrene Man commented February 23, 2007 at 11:19 PM
I have no idea how to use particles. I just start up this program whenever they're needed. Good work.

noshenim commented April 19, 2007 at 1:02 AM
I made a waterfall =D.
why does the code prevent misuse!?
just the splash screens should be prevented.
also get_save_filename should be used for saving.
Alert Games commented May 04, 2007 at 4:51 PM
the reason why the particles are saved in one folder is so that if you want to overwrite it, it will check if it exists. Though, I can probably improve that for the next version.
