Sakura - A Spring Bullet Hell Prototype

A little something I put together for the 64DSC. I originally started in Unity, because I was going to make a bullet hell for PC and mobile with 3D characters.

RoffleWafl did the sprites and artwork, and I took care of the music and programming. We split the level design.

This is only a few days worth of work. I've been busy with my new full-time job, and I also had time management and motivation issues. I'm hoping to be able to do quite a bit more with the Unity version of the game. I won't be working on this prototype version anymore.

There's no game overs, because I know some people here aren't very good at bullet hell games.

WASD = move
Mouse movement = aim
Left click = shoot
Shift = slow down + show hitbox

I enjoyed the game, considering how much I absolutely LOVE bullet hell games. I went for Unfair at first. Maybe it would have been better if the delay between burst fire shots was longer, otherwise players won't be able to progress without taking damage. Considering this is only a few days of work, I say, congrats! I love the game and hope to see your Unity version completed!

I liked the cartoony and colorful art style, although it was very hard to tell the difference between what was a wall and what wasn't. i think that was a big problem with the visuals.

As for the game play, it was okay. i'm not a big fan of these types but i had no problems with it. the lack of sound really made the whole experience kind of boring though. More importantly though, enemy bullets did not despawn after a certain amount of time and this sometimes forces the player to run away from the bullets down a thin path over and over again to avoid them. it's a bit annoying. all bullets should have a timed life.

A more minor complain is how short the resolution is for this sort of game. enemies are firing at me from off screen and i can never really tell if my bullets are hitting them off screen. Also i noticed the mouse aiming is slightly off.

overall it's a decent little prototype but not much of a game here yet. 6/10

Question, is the end of the game after you kill the big plant monster in the third screen shot?

Decent appearance, but that was about it. I did play through all of it though which is better than most bullet hell games because i get bored of them easily personally. Not much to it, but like you said its a few days of work, so good job.

I didn't mind it since it was a prototype. That being the case I consider this game more of a demo of whats to come. I too, liked the cartoony characters. Good luck in expanding this project! :)
