"Shumps!" is an incomplete game experiment, sleeping on my hard drive for quite some time. I found it, and made it about 4 to 5 times better, by adding more and more to it, and actually giving the game a purpose, not just some engine with 2 levels (I still have those 2 levels in the .gmk, the game just ends before that :P)
The screen is divided up into 3 different sections. If the mouse is in the region to the left, your shump moves left, if it's in the right region, it moves right. The middle region keeps the shump stationary.
Now, there's also more to this. There are spikes, floating energy balls, walls that fall from above, witty help messages, and a fly-mode item (explained in-game).
Along with this, I have made a little story, which you can easily see is influenced by Portal.

Things that might come:
-Level editor
-More levels
-A "bonus pack" of "behind the story" txt documents (unlocked by beating the game)

This game is most enjoyable in fullscreen, window mode is just too small. :P

Completed it all, anti-climatic ending, I wanted to be a duck =(
Juju commented March 27, 2008 at 10:36 AM
Needs a checkpoint between Levels 5 and 6. And that ending isn't funny =( Seriously though, needs better graphics. Way better graphics. 7/10

The current "story" was a total ripoff of Portal, but the game itself was good. I thought those wings was first really lame, but after a while at using them, it was actually nice and original addition.

Graphics weren't too great. Actually, they were annoying at times. Update those, add some clever levels and change the ending and you have a nice game!

7/10. It was short but enjoyable.

Thanks, all. I'm planning to make a prequell to this, before the facility was ruined. I'm thinking of actually turning the shump into a duck this time =D

A bit hard to controll, and it reminds me on Portal. Nice game though, it looks good. 8/10
Cosine commented March 27, 2008 at 1:21 PM
So, it reminding you of Portal is a bad thing? :P
Lapixx commented March 27, 2008 at 1:28 PM
I like the ending xD Don't know if that's from portal too, as I didn't finished it :P
Lapixx commented March 27, 2008 at 1:28 PM
No It's not a bad thing, I like the portal-thingy style
jeroenman commented March 27, 2008 at 1:52 PM
I like mouse-controled games. and I like this one too 8/10, it could use some work though.
Biggs commented March 27, 2008 at 3:14 PM
The controlls are pretty annoying, the levels were pretty boring, and the graphics are aweful. Sorry, I didn't think it was very fun. :[
s commented March 27, 2008 at 7:55 PM
Levels seemed pretty dull and you should fix that 1px hover issue
noshenim commented March 28, 2008 at 12:56 AM
make it so holding down the right mouse button make the horizontle movement become slower........
Ice of sweden commented March 28, 2008 at 3:09 AM
The gfk is boring and the desin: Eww.
The controls were annoying.
Cosine commented March 28, 2008 at 12:55 PM
@Serp: Last time I had that issue, when I fixed it, you sometimes couldn't jump. I'd rather float above the floor by a pixel than not be able to jump, eh?

_Player_:Mmk, will do.

Ios:What? Learn to spell, please. Also, I found the controls annoying when I first started playing, but now I'm actually good at this. Remember that "Stay here and practice stopping" sign? I wasn't kidding!
Cesque commented March 28, 2008 at 3:09 PM
I like the controls - pretty original. But I have no idea what you guys mean by ending or flying. I got to room 6 (the one with a rapidly changing message), got out, and to the exit, but the exit didn't work, so I had to die.

Is that the end? :P
Lapixx commented March 28, 2008 at 3:11 PM
I think that if the background would be, I don't know, different, it will all look a bit better. For example, a sort of nice light-effect (even with a big radius) will look good I assume.

@Cesque: You have to make sure you took the invert mouse and fix mouse orbs ;)
Cosine commented March 28, 2008 at 3:30 PM
Yep, all invertors have to be gone before you can win. Fortunately, there are the same nuber of invertors and un-invertors in each level ;)
NoodleNog commented March 28, 2008 at 5:59 PM
Great, Portal without the portals OR the cake. >___>
s commented March 28, 2008 at 7:56 PM
I'd think you should be able to fix the floating and still have jumping
Also, you should make it more obvious that you have to get all the invertor orbs and whether you have or not
Rez commented March 28, 2008 at 8:50 PM
Well the graphics are total ass and it doesn't have much character outside the original controls. But you probably already know that.

The controls were hit and miss for me, sometimes I felt I was playing Wubly other times I thought I was performing a brain transplant with the DS touch screen. 7/10
null1024 commented April 01, 2008 at 2:32 AM
To fix floating:
Just move the visible position of the sprite down 1px, and leave the mask where it is. (draw event: draw sprite - (what ever the sprite is) at x,y+1)
Cosine commented April 05, 2008 at 4:53 PM
But then if the character isn't floating, It'll draw it in the ground. And you don't have to tell me how to do things, thankyouverymuch.
Alert Games commented April 06, 2008 at 1:40 PM
it was different, but not that good. its boring, the effects and graphics are not good at all, and the control is hard. maybe have sensitivity based on the distance on the side? idk

also, i got through lev 5/6 after a few tries, but the ending green thing didnt work??? needs a lot of improvement...
Daftajest commented April 21, 2008 at 2:41 AM
This was unique, and the level design fits the increasingly difficult style I saw when we were making Scribble...

Like a previous user said, making it more sensitivity based would make it a lot more fun!
