You Can't Possibly Expect Me To Do That (YCPEMTDT) is a puzzle/platformer game with a sadistic twist: Killing yourself can help. This isn't a Karoshi clone, though. Because in the land of platformer games, dead bodies go through walls. So, by launching your body through walls, you can get to new places! Features 18 levels, and sound. Enjoy!

Unique idea and fun game play. Level design was good. Kept me playing for a while :)

This is probably my favorite 2d platformer. Ever.

Creative level design.
I love the irony in this game.
DSG commented June 04, 2009 at 3:21 AM
Really. Fucking. Addictive.

Nice little game. I played it for a little while. But here are some things I really should point out.
1) Your movement physics are seriously bugged. When recovering from a heal, holding the key opposite of the way you're flying stops you instead of sending you that way or doing nothing at all.
2) When you touch a block from the bottom, your double jump is refunded. Easy way to prevent that is to check the directional speed upon collision.

Other than that, fun. I'll withhold my rating for a while.
marbs commented June 04, 2009 at 9:34 AM
Oh, how I abused that double jump bug! :D
moshboy commented June 04, 2009 at 10:01 AM
Pretty good stuff. I enjoyed what I played.
Cosine commented June 04, 2009 at 2:22 PM
I found a simple way to fix that bug. The game gives you your double-jump back whenever you touch a wall, thus resulting in massive bugs. I'll update it with a new version that fixes that, as I have a simple solution. Thanks for your comments!
Cosine commented June 04, 2009 at 2:27 PM
Updated! No double-jump bug. :D
RetroVortex commented June 04, 2009 at 4:52 PM
I really want to play this game, but I get constant errors.
Something about missing sound files, when you jump or collide with spikes.
Intro tune works fine though, so you may have accidentally broke something when you fixed the double jump bug.
Cosine commented June 04, 2009 at 5:09 PM
Whoops, forgot to put the sounds in the new zip file! Fixing right away...
Cosine commented June 04, 2009 at 5:14 PM
There, now all of the sounds should be in the zip.

Its a nice game, but there is a bug I encountered on the last platformer level: after a few attempts the right fuzzy thing got stuck in a wall and disappeared, therefore allowing me to beat the level easier than I should have.
Also you can move during the star part, and can accidentally kill yourself. Maybe disabling the controls until the star is gone may help accidental deaths.

I'm going to give this game a 7 because it is a bit too short for a game of its type and I'm not a fan of the platformer part (part c),not because its bad, but because I'm not a huge fan of games like "N+" and "I wanna be the guy". This game is definately worth checking out just for part B. I loved it alot! The concept is unique, and it required me to think quite hard to solve the puzzle.

I think that adding alot more levels, a few more obstacles, and possibly a level editor, will make this game great, as it has a good concept, and a very stable engine, (bar that one small bug I found. :D)
Cosine commented June 04, 2009 at 7:12 PM
Thanks! The only reason I didn't make more levels was due to a shortage of level ideas. This was (unfortunately) a concept that had limited versatility, although I'm sure that with enough time, I could make more levels.I thought about making a level editor, but never got around to it, and I'm horrible at making level editors. :P
RetroVortex commented June 04, 2009 at 7:27 PM
There are a few people on here who might show you how to make a good level editor, ask around!
I'd offer to help you myself, but I'm quite useless at GM.

Is that ogmo? :S

Pretty inventive. 8/10
Cosine commented June 04, 2009 at 9:47 PM
Monochrome Ogmo. XD

Actually, the concept of this game originated in about 2006. I was working on a Jumper clone with somebody, when a glitch came along, where your dead body could collect diamonds. This then turned into a new concept of white diamonds, which would turn your dead body into a player. This game actually had smooth movement though, and it was much harder to aim your body toward the diamonds. 3 years later, I made this.
KNZone2 commented June 05, 2009 at 12:08 AM
This has been the best case if irony I have ever seen in any piece of work.

I don't like monochromatic games; they're so hard on the eyes. However, the concept makes up for this.
noshenim commented June 05, 2009 at 12:29 AM
I'd like the respawn time to be faster.
Castypher commented June 05, 2009 at 3:46 AM
Time for my rating. The levels are nice and puzzle-like, but you didn't explain what some of the things did. Example, the blocks with a huge X on them. One of the levels (forgot which one) had one set of spikes, one healing blob, the goal encased in X blocks, and one double jump refund.
That was probably the only level I never found a solution to.

There's a lot more that the game could use, particularly more original content. The arcade-ish sounds were alright, but somewhat annoying. The character animations were really odd while jumping in a direction, but the monochrome graphics were easy on the eyes.

I'll give the game an 8. Not bad for a puzzle platformer.
Black Parchment commented June 05, 2009 at 12:22 PM
That's a rather cool idea you got. I would present the view in a widescreen ratio.. or maybe not. Just an idea. Still its a good game.
Black Parchment commented June 05, 2009 at 12:24 PM
Actually scratch that its perfectly fine.
Juju commented June 08, 2009 at 7:49 AM
It'd be nice if you could scroll around the level.
blob commented April 30, 2010 at 8:16 PM
I love this game, very original. How are you supposed to beat level 2-6? I can get to the check point but can't get back accross, it's too far.
Ferret commented June 29, 2010 at 8:55 PM
Strange, I played this before but never played it here. I love it. Needs a better menu. 8/10
Juju commented June 29, 2010 at 9:13 PM
Weee necroposting!
Crane-ium commented June 29, 2010 at 9:56 PM
Love the concept. I encountered some unusual glitch in the 4th platforming level. I was at the star, and I somehow died. It really shattered my hopes and dreams.

Anyhow, I really enjoyed it all the way through, except that fling level drove me crazy.
