Quick explanation: I made this game for a competition in which a spriteless game must be made. My entry took 1st place.

Lengthier explanation:
It's a simple shooter. You try for a high score, avoid death, etc. The usual.
This version is an updated form of my original entry.

Criticism welcome as usual

Pretty cool. I enjoyed playing it. Pretty good for no sprites, kinda glad you didn't go the geometric route that anyone would have done. I got up to the part where enemies are able to shoot, but I died and lost all my upgrades and was never able to recover; idk if I just sucked or if it was really difficult. I was pretty frustrated that if I dodged a shooting enemy that they would continue shooting from below the screen for a few seconds. I thought the credit screen was pretty cool. Sound and music is a plus. 8/10

I'm just going to ignore the fact that the stars look like bullets and bullets look like collectible rectangles and space monkeys love bananas.

LOL Myth. I'm making a habit out of adding Gamepad support to my games these days.

And Ferret, the game does get very.. tough later on. My highest score was 78000 something, resulting from hours of testing for bugs. I forgot to stop the enemies off-screen from shooting. I must fix that.

Pretty cool, I really liked it, even made me want to create my own 'no-sprites' game, I doubt I would though.
Just curious - did you use separate objects for all those background stars?

No. I used an array of variables for each star that tracked the x and y location. Less of an impact on resources that way.

@Myth: i felt the same way. couldn't get very far because it was difficult to avoid shots and collect things, the stars just made it all that harder lol.
