Shawn64 tribute site

Posted by Quietus on Nov. 28, 2018, 11:34 a.m.

I noticed shawn64's site went down this year. So I decided to try to preserve as much as I can. Here's what I have so far:

I just updated the download links today. I'm using 64d for now, I will add dropbox links later. I managed to find several lost games using web archive, which is awesome. The only remaining lost game is Cookie Buster.

I still need to save all screenshots from web archive and re-upload them to wordpress. There are several game pages where the images didn't survive, so I'll need to get screenshots for:

Bounty Hunter SX

Ski-Racer 2

Holiday Hunting

Fireworks Maker

Jetz Rampage 2

Shawn vs. Jerred

I'm also going to try to archive the Mini Golf Pro pages, along with Jetz Fusion weapons and Jetz 4 weapons.

I added some Let's Plays and fangames but I feel like those pages are dreadfully bare for now. Only 5 LPs of Shawn's games on youtube. Frustrating to see him so overlooked.

Any help would be appreciated re: the screenshots. Let me know what you think about the site. Go make some LPs and fangames too. Thanks.

I'm surprised his site stayed up for as long as it did, but I suppose this was inevitable. You're doing God's work.

This is awesome, great work man.

I'm glad that you did this – losing Shawn really hit me hard back in high school and I still think about him every now and then. I was able to find Cookie Buster on archive, I'll try to find a way to get it to you.

I remember Jetz Rampage back in the day. Sick game! I also definitely remember I was shocked to read about his passing.

Edit: After having visited the site, I'm realizing it would have been Street Bike Fury that I played.

Thanks for all the comments and support guys. Here are a few updates. We've gotten screenshots for all the games, except Ski-Racer 2 and Jetz Rampage 2. I'm gonna add mirror downloads soon.

I discovered a new "lost game" while prowling the GMC archive - a demo for Infection 2: Meltdown. I never even knew this existed. Thanks to Ace02 and tapeworm I was able to get an .exe. You can download it here:

That leads me to one other question - if anyone has suggestions on how to run GM6 games on Windows 7/8/10 that'd be great. It seems a lot of us have trouble running Shawn's later games, even with compatibility settings. :(

I recall a GM .exe version converter existing as an "as-is" deal. A quick search reveals¶m=02&c=6&id=12637

I downloaded it and ran it. Though I've nothing to test it with, the icons, text and other details pull the right strings in my memory. It's meant to make GM6 games to run under Windows Vista (and maybe later Windows versions?).

Ahh… the day when the Internet at the high school computer lab was down and my 512MB pendrive loaded with the Street Bike Fury saved everyone's day. Good times.

Can confirm that this tool works fantastically. I've used it on many GM6 games in my personal collection.

As I recall there was some issue with GM6's compression specifically that made its EXEs incompatible with new OSes, even though both GM5 & earlier and GM7 & later EXEs work fine.

Well good news is this worked for Infection 2: Meltdown. Holy shit what a trippy experience that was.

Bad news is that this doesn't work with Shawn's final games because he used installers for Mini Golf Pro, Jetz 4 and Street Bike Fury. So I can't get those three to work at all. :( Any further advice on running old games? Or does anyone have .exes for those games? I'm at a loss here.

How much do the installers do? I imagine you could just install them, go to the Program Files directory, convert the EXE, and bundle the whole game folder in a ZIP. Maybe test that the contents of the ZIP run okay on a different PC.

This is the error message I get when I drop any of them into the converter:

Move the games into a directory that isn't in your Program Files folder. Windows 7 and up expect elevated permissions for writing files in those directories.

E.G: Move the S64Games folder into a root-level (C:\S64Games) folder and try from there.

Excellent, just tried that and it worked for MGP and SBF. I'll upload these to the site as zip files. Thanks Mega.

Final problem, I just can't get Jetz 4 to install for some reason. If anyone can open it on their computer and send me the game as a zip, I'll convert it as well. I have two installers for it:

Those are crappy CNet installer downloaders (Basically adware), and they seem to be broken.

I found a working download of the 1.2 version of the game here:

Tested it out, seems to work "out of the box" on Windows 10.

Sweet, worked on my Windows 7 as well! I'll upload this version. Thanks again ^_^

Some updates:

- Added a "How to Play Shawn64's Games" guide for people using Windows 7/8/10. Includes controls for each game.

- Added additional mirror downloads via GMG and google drive. Each game has at least two download links now.

- Added a grand file with all of Shawn's games. 145MB for 21 completed games and Infection 2's demo.

- All screenshots updated.

Outside of a few minor updates, my role here is largely finished.

Some final updates I could use help with:

1. I would like to update the guide with some tips on how to run shawn64's games in Wine for Mac/Linux. I have zero experience with it cause I'm always on Windows.

2. I want to make some "strategy guides" to help people get into Shawn's later games. Specifically Jetz 4, Street Bike Fury and Mini Golf Pro. hmu if that sounds like something you'd be interested in helping with.

3. I want to find the missing cheats to Shawn's later games.
