When testing this the other day Radnom, it was nothing compared to today. You work fast!

Anyways, just like Mechbot, you've done a superb job. The graphics and simple, yet very nice. The character is well designed, and I love all of th little things, from the cannons, to ropes, etc... I don't really like the water though.

The grenades and gun rule!

Keep up the good work, and don't get lazy like me.

Edit: Seeing as I told you all the glitches I found over MSN, I won't bother telling them here.
InTheDark commented April 09, 2006 at 5:21 AM
Awesome game comin up. Make sure in the next demo you add some sort of enemy or object that interacts with the gernades and guns.
Radnom_Games commented April 09, 2006 at 5:34 AM
Of course. I just want to make sure the platforming is worthy. :P

Thanks for the comments!
Kenon commented April 09, 2006 at 5:52 AM
is it just me, or are my eyes bleeding? Because this is a good game... but not........ the right feel. t felt.... not platformish....yet platformish.... MAKE IT 3D! jk. It's good.
membrain commented April 09, 2006 at 7:02 AM
in the 2nd room I could not jump up to the rope... it was just a tad out of reach (too high)
The engine is very smooth from what I've seen so far. Very good work on this.
Radnom_Games commented April 09, 2006 at 7:11 AM
Thanks. I have no idea what you meant, Kenon, but I'll take it as a compliment...

Keep trying, Membrain, it is definitely possible.
melee-master commented April 09, 2006 at 7:14 AM
Yeah, Membrain, if I can do it, you can. =P
Juju commented April 09, 2006 at 5:00 PM
Very nice, although attaching too a ring is too hard - maybe make the collision area a bit more leniant.
Eternal commented April 09, 2006 at 5:21 PM
Wow, this is fun. It was so hard trying to go on the swinging rings though
ronnoc commented April 09, 2006 at 9:09 PM
Dude, this game is the shit.
Alpha Man commented April 10, 2006 at 5:03 AM
Nice looking, but...

I cannot really speak for the gameplay. I found myself repeatedly trying to get up the moving platforms... until it screamed Jumper and made me exit. Frustration does not equal fun. I like games where you can actually use skill to make it through the game untouched once, like Mega Man and Metroid (, and yes, I have done no damage runs on a few of those games, but technically you have to get hit at least once in a few Metroid games. Those do not count as legit hits though).

So yeah, over all, it looks good, but it was not really fun in my opinion.

Oh, and sound, I did not have my volume up, so I cannot really grade that.

And graphics/sound do not really matter in the first place... okay, post complete. :D

... Oh, and one more thing. Mouse control sucks. :P
Radnom_Games commented April 10, 2006 at 5:21 AM
I'm sad that you feel that way, Alpha_Man, but I assure you that that part is more skill-based than luck based... I can predict the positions of the platforms and jump up them without falling off once... it took about 5 seconds to get up. I've done that quite a few times.

There is no sound yet... like I said I wanted to get the platfrming right, and I haven't had time to get sounds. Oh, and mouse control rules :P

Well thanks everyone for your criticism and comments.

I might take out that moving platform part if it is too difficult.. I have the problem at being too good at my own games and makign them too hard. It is actually my fave part of the demo though :P
membrain commented April 10, 2006 at 7:59 AM

I tried to get on that last rope for like 10 minutes!!!...
I'm going to go jump off a bridge now.

good bye
JW commented April 10, 2006 at 4:14 PM
Ownage man! Finish it, I want to killllllllllllllllllllllll......... *drool*
Juju commented April 10, 2006 at 5:37 PM
Be careful with the frustration factor, Radnom, people may label it as a Jumper clone simply because of that. Perhaps make the learning curve a little shallower.

About being too good at your own games - I know exactly what you mean! I've always had that problem.
Alpha Man commented April 10, 2006 at 8:12 PM

Heh, so does Nintendo. The staff ghosts in their racing games are nearly impossible. :P
melee-master commented April 10, 2006 at 9:52 PM
Heh, their staff ghosts are damn easy. I've always been able to beat them, even in grade three.

I don't know what's so hard about the platforms Alpha_Man... When I beta tested, it was hard for me, but that's because the only body part the character had at the time was a head. =D
Alpha Man commented April 11, 2006 at 12:28 AM
Grade three? I was talking about F-Zero. :P

Well, I guess thats off topic though.

Okay Radnom, heres a tip. Have at least 30 bosses, and make it so you can later fight them whenever you want. Bosses are what make games great. As long as they are not frustrating. Also, make them really really tough but possible if you use skill.

Indeed.
Radnom_Games commented April 11, 2006 at 4:58 AM
people may label it as a Jumper clone
Quote
O.o
It has a gun! Sure, the platforming may be similar in the frustration zone (temporary) but it's going to be 1 part platforming to one part shooting in the end. It will be absolutely impossible to call it a clone :P

I'll probably add a few bosses, but 30?

You can't apply logic to a n00b who thinks he's a GM pro...
Elusid commented April 11, 2006 at 2:18 PM
This is a very nice start to a game :) I am glad that you're focusing on the platforming aspect to get that 100% before you move on. I'm doing the same thing in my game at the moment and I think it's the best way to go if ever want any good games. It is a bit frusterating with the platforms but I didn't spend that much time on it because I decided to post here :) Definatly keep up the good work and if you ever want to join a game making team go ahead and give me a buzz ;) [email protected]

What? I'm not a pro, Game Maker is just a hobby of mine. I haven't even finished a single game! I'm also not a noob because quite a few people enjoy my games. What you said is quite insulting.

Thanks Elusid. I'll keep that in mind, but I do like to work alone.
Radnom_Games commented April 19, 2006 at 4:29 AM
I forgot to mention, thanks for all the great comments and constructive criticism.

I hope you all enjoy the new demo.

Well then you shouldn't have said "Nintendo" just in general, F-Zero GX is one of the hardest racing games out there, and definitely harder than most Nintendo racing games.
ronnoc commented April 21, 2006 at 7:40 PM
F-Zero GX was made and published by Sega, due to the buissness triforce.

Man, that was so damn insane, I loved the rage mode! I'll leave a comment at the GMC soon.
Tyranic-Moron commented April 23, 2006 at 1:55 PM
Great game! The only thing I didn't like was the difficulty of catching the rings. Oh, and the level with the spikes, water, zip-wire and swinging rings. I just can't get past it! 9/10 though, fun game.
squeakyreaper commented April 23, 2006 at 2:46 PM
Good job radnom. Incredible, and if incredible is the demo, than new age is the final version.

mrmediocrity commented April 26, 2006 at 10:44 AM
Ever since I played the old GM game Cuntra I've always loved mouse controlled platform shooters. And this game is no different. Some neat features like locking on, grenade jumping, neat weapons, rail climbing, great variety of enemies and of course "rage". You've actually got a style similiar to Oddwarg in my opinion who is actually my favourite Game Maker games author. Game looks great too! One of the first WIP's I'll be keeping on my computer.

Rage mode reminds me of painkiller.

I played Painkiller for the first time a month or so ago actually, and the first thought that came to mind was "They ripped off Grenade Boy!" :P

Glad y'all like it.
Rambopvp commented January 02, 2007 at 10:42 PM
Awesome game dude.

PS. You can "cheat" on the gym-ish levels by grenading below you and jumping really really high.
