Road Trip to Hell

My Scary4D Entry

Story -So you've done something awful and as a punishment you're sent to hell with a chance to escape.


Controls -Everything is explained in-game, it's got your typical platformer game play.
-Press Q to debug if you get stuck (teleports you to the beginning of the level at the cost of one health point, yeah, it sucks).
-Press escape during game to go back to the main menu.

Performance -Due to my negligence to code and/or design levels properly, the game lags slightly on my netbook on the "Entrance" level and terribly in the last level (which actually makes it easier to complete). Runs fine in my above average laptop.

Tips and whatnot -If you find yourself dieing too much, take a look at the readme file, and keep in mind that the game's rather short, shouldn't take more than ten minutes to complete.

I got stuck in a corner and then I had to use ctrl alt del to exit the game :(

I ought to throw in a debug button, and also allow the user to exit whenever they want.

All games will lag with a netbook. Don't even try it. It's not worth coding to work efficiently on them where the majority of gamers will have a computer that can handle it.

the lack of music made the game feel empty.

getting stuck happened to me twice so that costed some life. it didn't get hard until the 5th level. a lot of spikes where it's nearly impossible to get through with out getting hit.

the games hard in 2 ways:
- acceleration is unnecessarily fast
- no lives

i guess if your "hardcore" you'll enjoy this but i assume the average gamer will get frustrated that they have to play the same levels again and again.

level design is decent. enemies are basic.

overall it's a fun little retro game with a challenge. i like these kind of games but unfortunately due to it's difficulty i didn't play too long. IMO i don't think this is the "right" way to make a game difficult.

Wow... That was a lot better than I expected, no offense. It looked like another boring, sad excuse of a platformer from the screens, but it actually looks nice in motion. The friction was a bother but that is what made the game challenging. Good job!

The only thing that bothered me was that you couldn't restart the level from where you died. It took me a while to adjust to the friction and figure out what did/didn't hurt me, and it was a pain to have to replay levels over and over again.

it was okay. it frustrated me with those damn spikes lol.

was pretty uniform unless i didnt play long enough to find out if it changes.

the glow effect made it look nicer, but the gameplay was just okay :P

Pretty frustrating, sometimes it felt like I had to end up in the spikes at some point to pass levels. Starting levels over got pretty frustrating. Good otherwise and doesn't feel like it was made in panic like the other gamess. 7/10 Cuz I got stuck.
