After a few hours of trying to come up with a new, minimalistic low-res style, I came up with this:

The knees still need some tweaking but aside from that I think I have a good foundation to start making more complex animations with.

Gonna see how much spritework I can get done over the holiday weekend so stay tuned!

I like the palette, the pose and the blinking. Animation is subtle enough that it's still interesting, and the motion needed is there.
Yeah knee is jumping around a bit.
But looking awesome =)

Ideally I'd want to represent motion with as few frames as possible because it's hard making large sprites.

with a fighting game perspective, these sprites are pretty sexy. and i'm not even a furry. i'd play ur game

I'm not really interested in making a fighting game as I would be making some sort of platformer action RPG. After playing Undertale I've been motivated to look into reviving my old JTMK project as an action RPG instead of the original Gunstar Heroes-like run and gun idea I had for it.

Anyways I went ahead and quickly added a few in between frames with Aseprite. It's still very rough around the edges but I can easily smooth it out

Also working on a running animation. It's not as stylized as I'd want to be so I might end up scrapping it:
