The only thing I don't like is that I see a 9 in it. But besides that Google did a right step IMO. It makes their set of logos more consistent and 3D is so overrated nowadays.

that could also be said about the best of logos. ;) It's the design that matters, not how difficult the creation process has been.
Doesn't look that bad. On the flipside, while I like Adobe's icons for their CS products, at least Chrome's new icon isn't a colored box with Cr inside. :P
That one was made by some twelve year old somewhere. Mush designed the current logo, with some tweaking from someone else on this site, as I remember it.
