GNOME?!
Posted on August 23, 2011 at 21:25

So my computer fucked up. It suddenly decided that it wasn't going to allow USB ports to function while Windows was running. They'd work in bios and whatnot, but would just cease functioning as soon as Windows started to load. I decided it was time for a fresh installation, but first I had to save my data.

I went to download Fedora and I had the choice between KDE and GNOME. In the past I much preferred GNOME, so I went with it. What the hell happened to GNOME? Its interface is terrible. It's so simplified, almost as though it was designed for my grandmother. Reminded me more of a smartphone than a PC. It was awful, I used to like GNOME, but this was near unusable.

So here I am using KDE. So much better. I don't get why GNOME is as it is. When did this happen? And why? :(

Fedora comes with GNOME 3 right? I still use the classic two bar GNOME 2 that comes with Ubuntu (not that Unity crap). You'd have to kill me to change it.

I could probably figure out how to get Fedora to use GNOME 2. But why they would even include GNOME 3 by default is beyond me, it's so awful.

Yeah. I recently updated ubuntu and found that gnome looks like an ugly version of osx. It didn't feel right either.

Forgot to mention this, why not give XFCE a shot? KDE and GNMOE aren't everything and a properly themed XFCE is cool.

I'm using Xubuntu right now and I love it. XFCE is basically GNOME 2 but 100x faster.

GNOME 3 made a lot of interesting design decisions. I don't think they really worked out, but I respect it for trying.

They just want more people to be comfortable switching to a non-Windows platform. ;_;

I used XFCE way back in the day. I never bothered with it since I had a decent computer. Maybe I'll check it out.

Is it bad that sometimes I have to slightly fight the urge to cut my hand in half when I see a pizzacutter?

Running the latest version of Ubuntu now (after having gone through 3 versions of Fedora). Thank god this version of Ubuntu still uses an older version of Gnome (or something). It's far better than the version Fedora was using.

Not for long...
Ubuntu 11.04 does still use GNOME 2, but 11.10, due October, will use GNOME 3 too, and it will be all Unity by default.

GNOME 2,

Made me think of this

Well I shan't be switching if I decide to stick with Ubuntu. Very tempting, as I hardly even play games anymore.
