Anniversary and Return
Posted on January 02, 2016 at 15:57

Today marks the beginning of my fifth year on 64Digits. It feels so surprisingly long, yet you guys have all been around for like twice as long so it's not too much of an achievement really.

As some of you might have noticed, I disappeared from the site around four-five months ago, only logging on like once every two months to lurk a couple of blogs and then disappear into the darkness again. I sporadically chatted with Taizen and Steven but that was about it. Around two weeks ago, I got an invite from Toast on Steam for Civ V which I unfortunately had to decline because I was busy studying, but it did surprise me because I thought the people on 64Digits I didn't knew that well in the first place apparently still cared about me. I accidentally launched my irc app yesterday and decided to pop up in the 64Digits chat, where I was welcomed again by Steven and Cyrus, and later some other people as well. Even after all those months of inactivity, it feels like coming back home. It's something I didn't realise how much I missed it until I came back and I'm going to do my best to come online more often and provide some more activity here.

Since mid-September, I've been living on my own in a dorm. The freedom is absolutely amazing. I can stay up and compose until say three and then regret it the morning after without my parents complaining and telling me to go to sleep which is nice! I'm not home from Sunday night until Friday afternoon, so if we organise a Teamspeak event on a night that is not Friday or Saturday, expect me there :)

As some of you may know, I discovered linguistics last year, which essentially caused my free time to shift from game development to diachronic linguistics. This obviously caused a shift in communities I frequent as well and thus logically led to my disappearance from 64Digits. As some of you may have noticed, I was working on a constructed language last year. I since decided to scrap it and start anew. I'm currently working with a very experienced linguistics hobbyist on a new constructed language which is based on Proto-Indo-European and thus related to English, Irish, French, Sanskrit etc. I made a website housing the currently 256-word lexicon but I'm going to keep it secret for now. I'm currently still at the first stage which would have been spoken around 300 BC, so the final result will be quite different. To show how it is related to other languages, here's some examples:
- *h₂egʷnos > Latin: agnus / Ancient Greek: ἀμνός (amnós) / Mine: *agnos
- *(s)kʷálos > Latin: squalus / Ancient Greek: ἄσπαλος (áspalos) / P-Germanic: *hwalaz (whence English whale) / Mine: *falos
- *h₂éǵros > Latin: ager / Ancient Greek: ἀγρός (agrós) / P-Germanic: *akraz (whence English acre) / Mine: *agros

As for my personal projects besides the one above, I currently don't have as many as I had before. I'm writing the music for Pokémon Cinder and Foam, for which I'm also in charge of several other fields. I made a deal with a high school friend of mine who's studying directing that if he does a movie project for his exams, I'll be in charge of the music for the next three years. I still really really want to make a JRPG at some point in my life but I simply don't have the time and resources for it at the moment.

I guess this is pretty much everything worth mentioning. Follow my Pokémon fangame on Twitter and I'll love you forever. Thanks for reading! It's nice to be back home :)
