Light at the End of the Tunnel
Posted on May 14, 2013 at 13:37

I am sitting in my university's center building waiting for my last class of college ever.

Well, hopefully.

My graduation date is May 23rd and I want you all to be there. Just flippity flap on down to free country Maryland, USA.

Anyway I have a small break between finishing up here and starting work. I dunno if I've posted it here yet but I will be working at Webs, which used to be Freewebs.com. Funny, I made Twisternet a while back as an alternative to freewebs, and now I'm going to work for them. I never would have thought that'd happen.

Anyway I'll probably do some silly shit before I start working (June 10th). It isn't a long time off but I need to do something with the time, so I'll post if I'm doing any silly shit on webcam or streaming a DJ session or something mildly interesting.

For the time being, I'm working on Heights still, trying to finish up some infrastructure work with Heights Studio. I'd like to have a working alpha by the end of the summer, we'll see how that goes. I think it will be a pretty fun project, it has bee so far.

I was really close to join the completition, but I just don't have the time right now what with all the finals and graduation and such. Maybe I'll do my own some other time. I also want to host a few competitions once I have some cash flow to be able to sponsor some prizes. Be on the lookout for that later this summer.

I love you all. That's all I got for now.

Actually, just remembered something. I wrote this blog entry a week or two back with my reflections on my computer science degree. If you are in, about to be in, or out of college, I encourage you to read it. It made some waves, both good and bad, but my point stands and hasn't changed.

64Digits Events Calendar
Posted on April 18, 2013 at 21:29

Wut. Doubleblog.

So here's the skinny:
- 64D users really like to do things
- Google calendar is really nifty for calendar events
- So I made us a collective calendar for 64Digits events

Here is the 64Digits Events Calendar

I have no idea if anyone else already did this, but here is another.

As of now it is a public calendar so you can go ahead and add it to your own google calendar so you can have all of the events on your calendar.

MAKE NOTE that the calendar time zone is set to GMT. If you add it to your own calendar, the event times will represent YOUR TIME ZONE, but if you look at the page itself it will be in GMT.

I'm looking into how to make it so anyone can add their own events and whatnot. So far I only put 2 events on there. I'll be sure to update as I make progress with that.

See My other blog for information about an RATF live letsplay I plan on doing next weekend.

I made this blog seperately because I feel this should be in its own post, not mashed with something else.

Lemme know what you think.

RATF (Or something else) Live Letsplay
Posted on April 18, 2013 at 20:47

Hola.

As I mentioned before, I'd like to get drunk and show off my embarrassing inability to play video games. Specifically, I'd like to do it on camera for your entertainment.

Last I heard, the general consensus was that I should do RATF. If that opinion has changed or you have a better idea, suggest a game in das comments.

Once I figure out what my life looks like next week I'll come up with a date and time, hopefully early enough for you to cancel any weddings or job interviews you may have lined up so you can join me in this event.

As before I will be using G+ Hangouts to stream this so y'all can participate directly. It will be a lot easier to set up if you are in the 64Digits G+ community, because I can just invite the group to the hangout.

Aight.

Elicti: A Journey to Igath
Posted on April 14, 2013 at 17:02

After seven long years, Elicti has finally seen an update. I welcome everyone to play this new version of Elicti, which I am calling "A Journey to Igath" that has been refurbished and refined, balanced and rewritten in order to bring some new life to one of my favorite projects I have ever worked on.

I am delighted to be back working on games again, and with the creation of Heights, I will be spending more of my side project time working on some titles that I hope you will all enjoy playing as much as I enjoy making.

I will be working with a team on some upcoming projects, and that team includes a talented animator, so the reign of shitty twisterghost graphics is soon coming to an end.

Anyway, check out the game, it is available for download right on the front page of http://elicti.com along side of the full changelog of what has been patched in since the last release.

Enjoy!

Updates
Posted on April 13, 2013 at 14:49

A few things since my last post. I guess first off, I released a 5 song EP of mashups that weren't quite ready when I released The Hype Train

Take a listen or download for freezles here: Left at the Station

As for my other stuff, I am still working on developing the early stages of Heights Studio. I really think it'll be pretty cool once it is ready, and I encourage you all to read up on Heights here or at least read up on JavaScript and HTML5 working with the Canvas tag. Shits powerful as hell.

Perfect example, if you haven't seen this yet: Chrome Maze (You need to use Chrome for it to work, I believe. Might work on Firefox, haven't tried).

Also, been meaning to ask, anyone here play Dota 2? Anyone here want to play Dota 2? I have keys if anyone wants them. Speaking of Dota, I'm working on a pretty awesome project related to that. I'll post more later when I have something to show for it. If you wanna see stuff I've already made related to Dota, check out JankDota. Jesus, could I plug more of my own shit in this blog if I tried?

That's all I've got for now. I'll be posting tomorrow at some point. I want to do another lets play soon so I'll try to get my shit together and do something soon.

Oh, and BBQ5 is still in the works, I'm just terrible and prioritizing.

I love you and there's nothing you can do about it.

So...

In other news, work on Heights Studio is coming along swimmingly. I am mostly still working on Peak, which is the "compiler" that Studio is based on, but I have gotten a semi-working version of the editor up and running, and at this point pretty much everything is planned out in terms of development. The project as a whole is a multi-month timeline plan, but there will likely be beta testing in the relatively near future, I'll be sure to make a big stink about it.

That is all the major info I really have. Short and sweet, no?

p.s. hey developer types, looks like the h1-h6 tags dont play nice with the url tag.

Heights Studio
Posted on February 25, 2013 at 23:47

Remember my blog post about Project Heights? No? Quick refresher then:

Project Heights is a JavaScript game engine I have been developing for the past months. It is inspired by GameMaker to an extent, and has been coming along very smoothly recently. For more information, downloads, etc, see the site here.

Anyway, one of the features on the site is an online editor, but right now it is only a code editor. I'm really excited to announce the next iteration of the editor is in the works! It is a much more advanced editor, very visual based and entirely in the browser. You will be able to save and load projects using simple .json files, so the possibility of using other editors is there. It will compile right down to the minified JS for your game to run with Heights, and it will be able to publish right to heightsjs.com as the current editor already does.

Here is a screenshot from an early version of it, nothing that revealing:

I'm excited to see where this goes, and I am planning some cool stuff for the release. I will also be taking beta testers in the near-ish future for the editor, so if you're interested keep on the lookout for that.

Thats all I got for now. Keep it real.

64Digits G+ Community
Posted on February 21, 2013 at 18:11

I went ahead and made us a G+ community. The G+ community system is really nice and helps to set up events and everything, namely hangouts. What I'm saying here is join the community so we don't have to hunt each other down to do G+ hangouts, which BY THE WAY...

It has been a few months since I did an episode of "Watch twisterghost suck at video games while drinking and hanging out also livestreaming on youtube." Working title. SO, taking previous suggestions, I'll go ahead and begin organizing a livesteam hangout letsplay drunknight for RATF!

Join the G+ community here and such.

In a completely unrelated matter, should there be an event in which hangouts, RATF and alcohol are involved, what would be the best time for said hypothetical event to go down? Dates and times would be p sweet, or general days and time periods. Earth hours only, please.

THE HYPE TRAIN
Posted on February 17, 2013 at 20:45

Shameless plug.

After 9 months of mixing and mashing and trying random shit, I have released my full length mashup album.

Snag it here:

In other news, thats about it.

GET HYPED.

Project Heights - It is real!
Posted on December 24, 2012 at 16:57

Remember that time when something about a JavaScript game engine I was making?

http://heightsjs.com

So it is out now. Really early in beta but out and completely functional. If you don't believe me, here's a crappy little game I made with sprites ripped from our very own favorite GM tutorial:
http://heightsjs.com/dev/shooter/index.html
(Doesn't work in IE, go figure.)

So anyway you should check it out. On top of just the engine, I set up a little online project hosting system that is super duper easy to get started with. No accounts, just go to http://heightsjs.com/create and type in a project name and hit "create". It has an online code editor that isn't shitty and handles setting everything up for you so all you have to do is code your game. I also wrote a couple of nifty tutorials to get you started.

The documentation is very comprehensive, and I would be lying if I said that Heights wasn't inspired by GameMaker, so if you have any GML experience, I think you'll find it easy to get started with.

Oh, and YOU DON'T NEED TO KNOW A DAMN THING ABOUT JAVASCRIPT TO CODE A GAME WITH PROJECT HEIGHTS, the tutorials are very simple to follow and if you know general programming you'll be able to pick it up no problem. Plus, there are endless resources out there for JavaScript help.

The whole project is open source and can be found on github:
https://github.com/twisterghost/Project-Heights

And if you would like to join the Google Group for Project Heights, you can ask questions about coding or help work to develop the engine:
Click here to view or join the group

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go find some warmer socks.

Merry Christmas 64Digits!
