Examples of Base Models

The organism creation system will use base models from which the different "mutations" will be generated. Here are some examples:

You keep talking about design ideas, what what is the game even about?!

Alternare is a game of stories. Every world should feel distinct, every person you become should have the potential to be important or impactful. Stories will also be generated from a pool of parts, like everything else in the game, but the system will be rigid enough to create sensible event progression.

Example:

FIND A CURE FOR YOUR SICK MOTHER (These won't have lame titles, I'm just helping you guys understand :P)

- Opening interaction with your mother

- Leave to find X ingredients for the cure

- Ingredients could be fruit/leaves from plants, items you get from a villager, etc.

- Use tools to create the cure

- Give it to her and help her start to feel better

Things that could change are WHO is sick, HOW they're sick, WHAT you have to do to cure them, among other details like who the problem is presented and the status of the relationship (doing it out of obligation/doing it out of caring)

The stories for each "life" will also be chosen by the computer and generally take the form of three major goals or events. One life might have you searching for ingredients to sick mother, like the example, while the next might have you performing the traditional courting rituals for your people to marry the spider-bird hybrid of your dreams.

I think the biggest thing I've learned from my past experiences, is to not wear the "vision goggles" when analyzing your game. You may have an awesome vision for the game, but nobody but you (and maybe a few sprinkled people with similar ideas) will see the true form, and all of it's intricacies until after it's finished. And even THEN 90% of people that play you game still won't "get" it.

Make games for yourself, but realize the difference between what's actually good, what has potential, and what sucks.

I have no game that I'm actually proud of for this reason, but it's not going to happen with Alternare. This is my FEZ. My meatboy. I will die before I fail.

Also, I realize you guys are ruled by your eyes, but you won't be seeing Alternare's art for a while since there doesn't seem to be much interest here. :P (It's really dope.)

Not necessarily. I could just say I like what you're doing, because I do. :P

I haven't really got any input though, aside from anything that would be seen as meddlesome.
