Forgot I was working on this

Posted by Canadonian on Jan. 13, 2014, 3:08 p.m.

I had a burst of inspiration about a year ago, then it stopped. But here is the progress… Upload it to your htdocs xampp folder to see it in action. Don't ask me for anything because I've forgotten everything about it and some pages aren't there/done but it's a start.

It's a work in progress 64D template.

There are some good ideas here, I really wouldn't mind having your input in V4.

Pros:

Smooth visual style

Bootstrap - great grids, no tables

Two columns - much less cluttered than our current three

Very little inline css

18 year old age requirement (lol jk but not really)

Cons:

Lack of responsiveness to size (the other great thing about bootstrap that greatly simplifies mobile dev)

Still some clutter such as in the top right corner (also redundant notifications)

Login at bottom of page

As far as V4 goes, I'm already working with a simple placeholder bootstrap design which should suffice for as long as needed. We are using a templating language this time which will make it much easier to swap out entire designs as we go. I will probably start taking hints from these pages here when it comes to general layouts for profiles, comments, PMs, etc., though later design changes will be trivial.

Perhaps I am a bit biased but I don't like that design much. It isn't bad, it's just that I wouldn't want 64Digits to look like that.

We already have a dedicated team (of active members!) who've been working on an efficient, streamlined V4 for months now. You're a bit late =P.
Eehhh… it's true that we've been working on it a bit, but the phrasing you used makes it sound like we've done much more than we've actually done. We still haven't exactly decided yet how we want V4 to be.

Anyways, though bootstrap is fine for prototyping, eventually I'd like V4 to have a really personal design and to be semantic (and so no using bootstrap). The latter is more of a personal preference, though. I don't like how bootstrap uses classes to describe the style, rather than the content.

In any case, I think it would be best if we got all devs in a nice little chatroom, get all cozy and discuss things.

I'll tell you what I like most about this version of V4 the most…

It's that I was able to merely drag and drop it into my XAMPP folder, and have it 'just work', without having to install and configure whatever frameworks the other iterations decided to use. :P

I probably wouldn't use the design. It feels kinda like Bootstrap meets a Wordpress/Blogger page.

In other words:

Haha Steven, I'm not trying to step on toes here. I just found the folder and thought i'd pass it on for you guys to use or do what ever you want with. It's painfully obvious that I have no place here anymore and I have no intention of trying to re-integrate. Just a gift, if even that.

Hell, I didn't even know v4 was still in the making. It'll be nice to see it come to life one day.
