GBlog 3 [Alot of News]

GBlog 3 here. I'm going to talk about the projects I'm working on. Starting with the project that was suppose to enter the halloween competition. Sadly, I don't have enough time to finish it before halloween. I may submit a small version of it though, or just keep it to myself until I'm satisfied and just release it as a regular project. I started a little late on the game.

Tower of Demise

The game has the concept of common flash games where you must defend your tower from opposing enemies. In the game you play as a magician who must defend the tower using his levitation skills to throw the enemies around and sling shot them into the ground. At the moment, I've been using stick characters (mainly because im just trying to get the coding done first) and there's two ground units + one air unit (a gargoyle). My idea for the halloween competition was to add some more things like launching pumpkins at the enemies and having the dead enemies come back to life (like a zombie would). But the physics for the sling shot effect is tough. I have to think about the fact that air units are able to recover in mid-air and heavier enemies should generally be harder to lift up, etc… There's just some picky things that I'm working on to make it somewhat unique. But, its just another arcade game. I was bored…

Now for the unreleased remake of Dawn of Envy. At the moment, I'm not working on it. Too much beta testing has made me want to take a break from the game. I've worked two months total on the new engine and I'm going to set it aside and let ideas run through my head. Motivation to pick up on the project will come back on another day.

Dawn of Envy

If you don't know the story about this game already, its an RTS game. Mainly a warcraft II remake with a interface similar to age of empires. If you haven't played that version, here's a screenshot of what I'm comparing my game to: Warcraft 2 Screenshot

At the moment, the human race of dawn of envy is 90% complete for the player and about 50% complete for the ai. Progression will continue after current projects are done.

Xenoban Xo.4

The oldest project I have and the only one I've submitted to 64digits. Xenoban is a banner making program that manipulates images and text to make pictures. I have not worked on the project in almost a year and plan to work on version 4 soon. Above is a screenshot from my last test. If you would like to try Xenoban o.3, feel free to do so. I'm adding many new features to the new version once progress is back. Its purpose is to act as a simple tool designed specifically to help people make banners/ads/signatures without much experience with art programs. It's a user friendly tool that does exactly what it's meant to do. Keep things simple yet efficient.

Celestial Ascent

A platform game that I released in August on the GMC. It was a project I was working on during school and stopped after my first quarter of school. I recieved an A for the project and didn't have time to work on it more for I was given different assignments.

* Background~ In the world known as Arkaia [are-kay-yuh] there stands three towers that exceed the clouds and are thought to be gateways to heaven. Rested upon the tops are three stones. They are called the Faith Stones. They bring life to their followers and death to the ones that refuse to believe in their power. They are the greatest of all but at the same time the most feared of all. These stones have control of everything…

* Present~ The creatures of the underworld have risen to the surface and as commanded by their leader, Vorta, they are in search of the Faith Stones. The creatures take over the towers and Vorta claims the stones. With them in his hands he has the power to control the middle and underworld… Vorta begins to flood the world with a never-ending storm. His goal, to flood everything on the surface and create the lake of fire for all living things to burn, creating a hell above the surface. Unless the faith stones are returned to their towers, a war among the Divine may break out.

* Future~ In the game you play your role as Vlad Zorac whose a descendant from above. A warrior from his days that died an early age when his town was attacked. He's getting a second chance to live and has a task given from the devine. Return the Faith Stones to their towers and help save the middle world from eternal darkness.

* Your Goal~Climb the towers and reach the top before the rising water below you causes you to drown. In further versions of the game, more storyline events and scenes will appear to give players a better feel of the game. It's a jumping platformer game but with more in-depth storyline behind the whole jumping. Instead of jumping for a high score, let's climb to the top and meet an evil dark lord who holds a stone of mass destruction….

I'll be adding it to 64digits when I make the next version.

Drift Racer

A temporary name of a game i'm planning. I'm going to experiment with car physics and make a drifting game in 3d. At the moment i'm just messing around with a drifting engine i've developed and i'm trying to improve it. I may start the 3d conversion as soon as I finish a decent car model. At the moment, it's just a math game for me… trying to adjust numbers and view number tests to get the correct car response to cornering at different speeds and angles. I won't have screenshots for this anytime soon.

Aeon

I mentioned a long time ago about a game called Machina. Which was to be a 3d mech game and I had a blog on developing a story for the game and with that we did come up with an interesting plot.

"The world in it's present state is developing at a rapid rate, now, the gap between the powerful and weak governments has expanded, to a breaking point. Resources continue to dwindle as the world's population prospers. The need for oil, food, and even water has broke all government control over nations into thousands of fractions. These fractions became corporations. They follow their own laws making governments useless. Technology continues to grow and the use of alternative resources has immensely helped. Many corporations began using violence and trained armies. Sparking a war that would only end if there was enough resources for all. But with the population so high they would fight for survival. The technology in this time is most important. Scientists and military engineers created machines known as Machina. These are armored combat mechs heavily equipped with weapons of mass destruction controlled by pilots. With a purpose to eliminate anything, and everything in their organization's path of survival. This led to many battles where very few survived. Death is the cost, Machina are the solution."

This is expected to be my most in-depth and best quality game. I'll be spending most of my time on this project where as my other projects will be worked on when I'm taking breaks away from Aeon. I hate working on one project for a very long time without spending time away from it for awhile. I lose interest in it. So, I'm working on multiple projects, therefore I'll be switching it up and game making wont be so dull. I need some variety, lol.

Well those are all my current projects. I have no idea when which will be finished because I change my mind numerous times along the progress of a game. One day I say I'm giving up….. and then a month later I come crawling back wanting to work on it again. Either way, none are forgotten.
