Fuck the internet

Things used to be simple.

I used to be able to have a Hotmail address for YouTube.

I used to be able to sign into my separate YouTube and Gmail accounts.

I used to be able to just check my Hotmail without it interfering with MSN.

I used to be able to run programs without them downloading an automatic update every other day, and I used to not have to dig through complicated menus to disable it, for the few programs today that still let you disable this invasion into your computer.

I remember when Facebook kept quietly to itself and didn't try to connect your real-life and online identities.

I remember when sites like Facebook and Twitter were simple web pages and didn't take 10 minutes to load all sorts of flashy useless features that have a tendency to break often.

I remember when things were simple. And I wish these companies would stop fucking with all the things I love.

There's going to be a world filled with people in their early 20's being grouchy like old people and lawns of ages past.

On the other hand, centralized login systems vastly simplify the registration process, and automatic updating makes it much easier to not be using outdated, potentially buggy or security-lacking software. I'll gladly get off your lawn, but some of these are not bad things.

Well its not the main problem that they are doing all of this now.

All of these are improvements. The problem is if you signed up before they made all these changes >_> I agree that the google thing is rediculous if you already have accounts set up.

But if you dont, its really helpful imo.

I've recently had issues with my 2 Google accounts, I've been abandoning one for another, but I still use the old one for Youtube, and since now Google=Youtube I get lots of cookie errors all the fucking time.

On the plus side myspace has started to become simple.

I googled a band, clicked the first link, and was like "hmm, I've never see a community site like this before. Oh well, let's listen to some music…"

Then I googled another new band at a later date, and the first link was "Myspace", so I'm like "ugh, okay, let's check this out…Oh hey, this is the same layout as the other band's page. This is myspace now?! wtf! How am I supposed to keep myspace at the top of my hate-with-a-passion list, if it's gone off and copied all the other sites that I've now grown to hate with a passion?!"

To everything else in your blog: I agree. Progress is a good thing, until it happens to me. >_<

Google really should have made a better interface for the integration, instead of offering it to one account. But after the mess and headaches it will all make sense.

lmao yeah i feel the same way. though generally i stay away from the popular sites so i haven't had many issues with that. though when my gf goes on Myspace and what not, it is one of the slowest sites i've seen. in fact even after loading, it causes the browser to lag, scrolling is not an easy task on such sites.

youtube seems to be incredibly slow most the time, much slower than any other video streaming site i go to regularly. (though i suspect that from the millions of people on it 24/7)

as for hotmail, well it's always been shit. quite a laggy interface and has the problem of not logging out which gives a cookie error "enable cookies to log out" if they werent enabled how would i log in? MSN itself is a piece of shit. i get the problem many times of showing all my friends as offline when they're not, sometimes i can't even send a message, and when i can, features like voice-call or video-chat are not selectable. not to mention it disconnects me a lot.

as for updating, well im fine with that, for most programs… except Windows itself! why does it freeze every time? why does it lag the computer horribly? why is it so slow? and if you turn it off, than it won't stop annoying you with the notifications that YOUR COMPUTER IS AT RISK! GET OUR SHITTY UPDATES! and take massive space on your harddrive… every thing Microsoft touches… no, i won't rant on MS, after all, they're my friend compared to Apple >=3

I've always thought that Windows would benefit greatly with a centralized software updating mechanism like most Linux and their package managers do. Any self-respecting software project in the Linux world has its project available in the major distributions' repositories, or have their own repository.

Also, I love the way the internet is going.
