Proposing To The Homeless

Ok so I re-ordered my MacBook Pro. Instead of financing it though, I'm buying it outright. So… my bank account is just about empty now.

Probably for the best, since I won't have to worry about paying it off. But now I've got a Barclaycard Visa with a $1300 limit just tempting me. I should probably destroy it before I do something stupid with it. lol

Not that there's Apple product that is all that tempting. I've got the newest MacBook Pro and iPod Touch, so what else do I need? An Apple Cinema Display would be nice but a waste, since I'd have to get rid of it in less than 8 months. The iPad 2 isn't particularly tempting either.

Anyway, yeah. Facebook stalkers/girlfriends are interesting. That is all.

You can do anything you can do on an MS Windows machine (Because they're /all/ PCs) on a mac, and you can do anything you can do on a mac on an MS Windows machine. Including, funnily enough, running the other OS, albeit only one of them legally.

Personally, I dlslike macs. I don't dislike OS X, it's pretty and about as functional, though they do some things in different ways. I don't buy the security thing, OS X typically falls on day one every pwn2own, before either windows or linux. The hardware is incredibly overpriced, beginning to reach sane (albeit very high) prices at the very top end, though.

But hey, you want a mac? That's your choice. I disagree with you on it, but I think you'll find we disagree on many things, simply because we're different people. Of course you're *wrong*, anybody with a different opinion is, but you can't help it, you're just not me.

Yeah, the lower end models are definitely more overpriced. And I agree on the security thing. The only reason Macs are "more secure" is because there are less users, thus less motivation to exploit them.

I'd like to point out how overbearing Apple is with their hardware. They won't let you upgrade without your warranty being voided, so you have to pay full price every time. Plus, I've never heard of people upgrading their Macs with better hard drives or whatever, so the services may or may not even exist.

That's my gripe with them. Oh, and their prices. Other than that, they're fine, though I prefer Windows since I'm more used to it.

A mac is just a computer - the reason you haven't heard of such a thing is because, well, it's a computer and you're upgrading one of the components, why do you need a specific guide? Take the side off and stick the new drive in. You can even upgrade some of the components of the macbook, if that's your jam.

The hardware itself is decent, it's just insanely expensive.

You can definitely upgrade a Mac's hard drive and memory. That's about it, but then you don't really expect to be able to upgrade much else with a laptop. But yeah, sucks that it voids the warranty. Thankfully there isn't much of a performance gain to be had by upgrading to 8 GB of RAM from 4 GB. And drive capacity isn't a big issue either.

The only upgrade that might be really tempting is replacing the optical drive with a solid state drive. But I still have a need for my optical drive, and SSDs still have a way to go in terms of price and longevity.

It's actually because I haven't seen a lot of people who sell Mac hardware by itself, at least, not to the extent that "PC" hardware is sold.

There's no such thing as "mac hardware", at least not since the switch to intel. It's just regular hardware you could go out and buy yourself, with an apple logo on it.

Excuse me for not being well versed in the Apple side of things. I didn't even know much about smartphones until I was forced to do a semi-research project on them, despite the fact that they're produced by several companies besides Apple.

It's ok, there's nobody on the Earth who knows everything. Not knowing about Apple isn't so bad compared to some things other people don't know.

There sort of is, kinda. I've seen Apple manufactured video cards. (Sold as "Mac video upgrade kits")
