How's This For Salvaging? [EDIT]

Posted by Siert on Aug. 13, 2009, 9:45 p.m.

Well I've officially started to delve into the production of a second Coloraze game! This morning I had absolutely nothing to give me a head start on this project, so this is what I've managed to do.

1) Find my Box.net account and download gml scripts for online highscores

2) Find the site for online highscores for BiteTheBullet (which I helped implement online highscores) and remember the email and password and downloaded my php scripts

3) Download the Coloraze: Spectrum editor from YoYoGames

4) Decompile the editor using gmdecomiler

5) Find darktemp's pm on the GMC on smaller file sizes

All together this work that I've downloaded in 20 minutes probably took a good 35 some hours of work.

Not bad. =)

[EDIT]

I've started up a blog over at tumblr so those who care can follow up on my Coloraze progress. Check it out over at http://coloraze.tumblr.com

Think you can email me a copy of that decompiler? I've a few lost projects I wouldn't mind recovering.

Yeah, and I want to decompile Hover Tank 3D and change some names and pics and stuff so people will think I made it.

Hey, the decompiler does have its very nice, legal ways it can be used.

Scott_AW, have you forgotten about google?

The decompiler is easy to find. The decompiler is not legal to use, even on your own games. Nobody cares if you use the decompiler.

The decompiler is 100% legal to use on your own games. I can't even describe how legal it is. You could decompile your game, take all the sprites and sounds and scripts and make another game from them and it would all be legal. It's your game!

But thanks for pointing out the facts. I also don't want this blog to become a decompiler debate so any more comments about it will be deleted.

Thanks again, I was able to get some code out of my lost versions of Shield Breaker as well as some graphics I no longer have the originals for. Additionally I ripped apart my old 2d dungeon crawler game for its loads of item sprites I had made, but currently can't get the rendered walls and floors, I'll need to get an older version of GM, I used 5.3 with its ability to store files, that is no longer supported in newer versions.
