hello hello!

i've spent the last few days without trousers and festering in my own filth trying to come up with some idea of what to do. maybe it was watching too much twin peaks or playing mother 3 but i had some sort of vague scene play out in my head of two people eating breakfast at some diner in the middle of nowhere, and then venturing out into a cave or something. they were wielding guns and wearing those cowboy hats but it was a relatively modern setting i guess? they were eating apple pie and drinking coffee and people were smoking (the uh, NPCs i guess they'd be interpreted as?) and there was this sense of travel or will to travel or the only thing to do was to travel. it's hard to explain but it was as if anything but checking out cool caves and murdering beasts was illogical and a complete waste of time.

so i sat down and tried to come up with something beyond the scene: places, people, even weapon names or enemy drops or something!! but i couldn't do it. and i figure it's probably because this scene was completely within someone elses uh WORLD perhaps or their rules and their characters and their apple pie and it felt wrong to encroach… i opened up game maker and started coding some sort of battle system and i dunno, i tried this for a few days and hated it.

i figured this was counter-productive so for a bit of fun i opened up rpg maker 2003 (an engine i've been using a lot recently…) and started messing around with monster names and the battle engine and started drawing some very basic but functional city graphics and i guess a concept developed from there. it was nostalgic and fun and familiar to me (although i've been using the engine, i've not been using any of the RPG elements…) and although its old as hell and extremely limiting by todays standards or whatever, i don't care, i'm gonna use RPG Maker 2003…

so that's where i'm at right now. i have a concept. it's pretty much a direct homage/pastiche/gushing flow of admiration to earthbound/legend of zelda/quirky RPGs which feel large and open and never really tell you where to go but full of places to explore and characters to interact with and the transitions between day/night etc etc etc it'll be ok i think

wowow… so much text… its only been three days adam… what are ya gonna be like after 3 months.. heh.. hehh….
