Whoa! My first blog entry on this site. Funny thing is, I've had this account for years, just never used it. (Apparently I am an "Old Bean"? I got an award for it :D)
Anyways, on to the good stuff.I am currently developing a top-down RPG (single-play only) called Sol. The game currently supports the following features:1. A fully working drag-and-drop inventory and equipment system.2. A flawless magic/spell system which can be customized via Spell Glyphs.3. Tactical Gameplay or Real Time (I like to think of it as the myriad of Diablo/Starcraft/Dragon Age type gameplay techniques)4. Music and sounds5. Quicksave/Autosave system6. Impressive Quest System7. Play the game to see more ;)Advice for combat:Use the pause-game feature to plan coordinated moves. You must play tactically through the first part of the game as of now. I will incorporate a combat tutorial as suggested in the next version. I am taking a break from this game for the weekend, so don't expect an update for at least a week :)Controls:Main buttons:Space: PAUSE GAMEMouse: Move and Attack, InteractSecondary buttons:F: UseI or B: InventoryC: Character ScreenA: Attack MoveQ: Quest LogAlt: Show ItemsCtrl: Show CharactersX: Character Spell Screen0-9: Quickslot SpellsF5: QuicksaveF6: QuickloadEsc: Close all windows / Exit GameShift-Click: Auto EquipZ-Click: Auto SellAnyways, here is a link:http://www.64digits.com/download.php?name=solbeta.zip&id=29083I thought I'd blog about it and see if it gets any exposure around here.Enjoy!~Cory
Its not a bad start, just needs better graphics and far less annoying music. Handle well, until the music began to kill my brain. Try changing the instruments.
Is that GM8? It still has the same default loading box and pop-ups?Yeah, Overmars wanted to keep the ugly default messages , vintage 90s icons, and change the icon to what a non-GM user fabricated.
Anyways I played Sol on the GMC and it was pretty interesting. I wouldn't call it refreshing like you did, but it's pretty nice. How old is that project anyways?Mordi, a highly respected member of this website, designed that icon. He was and remains an active user of GM.
Hmm…doesn't seem like his style to design GM's logo. I'm not certain of his music but his graphical style tends to be cartoony/comical instead of shiny and…professional logo-like. My sincerest apologies to Mordi…I thought I remembered another person having made the logo. Hm.
Juju, your avatar frightens me.It's the eye of Alex DeLarge, the protagonist from A Clockwork Orange, my favourite film. It's meant to be both a frightening symbol and a symbol of disaffection.
Thanks for the feedback.
The project is about 2 weeks old, I started working on it around June 12.Also, I am well aware of the rather lackluster graphics, but I haven't had time to get to upgrading them yet… maybe sometime in the near future?Any yes, I definitely agree with the music getting a bit annoying. I'll see if I can make something a bit more ambient and less intrusive.CoryI kept dying. Make a combat tutorial.
Hmm. I didn't realize that it would be too difficult. Maybe I will tone down the stats of the opponents in early-game. As well, I will add a combat tutorial in the next version. If it wasn't clear in the game, you must use the pause-game feature by pressing spacebar to plan out your attack while in combat (play tactically).
Anyways, I appreciate the input :)Cory
