dude Sol is a fucking epic name for a game.
maybe add it to your games folder? =)I thought so too!
I don't want to add it to my games folder just yet. I will wait until I add a lot more content to it. I have nearly finished all of the engine aspects of the game, just tweaking a few minor things. As soon as I plump up the game a bit with content, it may move :)The problem with tutorials, you see, is that people are impatient bastards. When starting a game, nobody will think "oh, this guy talks about important HUD-related messages, I should read all of this and memorise it before proceding" - everybody just goes "yes yes yes, who cares, WHEN DO I GET TO KILL STUFF?"
Here's the soft version of what I'm suggesting: let the party re-talk to the tutorial people rather than only give them one chance. They tell you to do something and you don't remember what it is, and you can't talk to them again to get reminded, so you just run around clicking and pressing every possible thing so that you can get through the damn tutorial as fast as you can.And here's the hard version: Nobody cares about tactics and spells before they even have a chance of utilising them in combat. Information should be provided gradually, not all-at-once.Got that all? Good. Awesome game. I mean, I quit it after trying to get through the tutorial four times, but the graphics and the controls are pretty neat. Still don't fully get why you can just drop spells out of your inventory, but hey.Yeah, I was half-expecting that was the case [regarding tuts]. I guess I'll work on that for next release, but for now… people will just have to get through them. I'll also make sure they are re-readable.
After thinking about if for a while, it would seem that this might also be the biggest downfall, as the game actually gets going once you get through the tutorials. I have also set some default tactics for your characters, so you need not worry about them until you feel ready to experiment.Cheers.
