Values

I was bored so I decided to post my mediocre paper on 'What are values?' and 'What are my values?' before I turn it in to my english teacher today.

Enjoy.

Values

Values surround us everywhere. Webster’s dictionary(1) defines the word “valuesâ€? as: “Beliefs of a person or social group in which they have an emotional investment (either for or against something; ‘he has very conservative values’â€?. Without values, there would be no confidence or trust in anything or anyone. Values are what we believe and shape how we define our morals. One’s values could be ethnic, religious, political, and, most importantly, personal.

For example, if a Jew were asked to eat a pork rib, he would refuse not just because it is against his religious laws, but because he sincerely believes that eating pork is sinful. Regardless of what others do or say, he will not go against his personal and religious values. “…persons have integrity if they apply their values appropriately regardless of arguments or negative reinforcement from othersâ€?.(2) Therefore one’s values, moral code, and integrity are all intertwined with what he believes.

My personal values reflect my belief in Christianity and Democracy. Because Democracy was originally founded on Christianity, it would seem natural to put those two views together. Unfortunately, Traditional biblical values are being rejected by the mass population. People go to church one day and then tomorrow they’re out on the streets promoting unbiblical things such as abortion or gay marriage. Not only that, but America has embraced many different religious groups that are harming our society. In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., “My friends, all I'm trying to say is that if we are to go forward today, we've got to go back and rediscover some mighty precious values that we've left behindâ€?.(3) I think that firmly speaks for what I believe.

As for values,I'm for democracy and I'm an atheist.I might of missed the point, but I figure the issue comes when we merge social political and economical structures together, take for example, communism and capitalism. Our planet failed with communism and so is viewed totally biased, even when thinking hypothetically

That was just my viewpoint. I was arguing that values are what we believe in. You're an athiest so your values reflect athiestic beliefs.

I'm not arguing that what i believe in is nessicerily correct (But of course I do believe that…) but rather that this is just an example. does that make sense?

But i think it is stupid if someone values are based on lies of an religion. An individual has to stand for his self.

Just as I could say you're stupid for not believing in them. So your point was?

Ya,that feak comment was really random

Just out of curiosity, what are atheist values? All I believe is that God would have to be of logical existence…I think what matters is the morals, which are many times tied to religion
