Its time for my wildly inconsistent blog post! First up, October!

October was very… Octobery! At work we decided to hold our monthly social as a Halloween party, and it was quite fun. Spending all day in costume at work? A plus in my book! Not very much work got done, though, haha! I went as a Mad Scientist:

I unfortunately didn't get any really good pictures, but it was a lot of fun, and I had an /excuse/ to madly shout out 'FOR SCIENCE!'. There was another mad scientist, but he didn't hold a candle to my awesomeness. You can't simply throw on a white coat and call yourself a scientist! I had:

A monogoggle, with a little bit of steampunkish style

A large leather glove with buckles

A ray gun

Lots of pens in pockets (they kept falling out)

Hair spray to keep my hair swept back due to having 'been in an explosion'

Soot on my face with clean spot underneath monogoggle

Shaved my goatee a bit to give it that 'evil' look.

Walking around shouting 'for science!' in a dramatic voice, and asking people to be my victims I mean test subjects

And of course a lab coat

All in all, definitely worth it. I got the glove and monogoggle at Dallas Vintage, and I am definitely going to reuse them somehow. If I ever go to some sort of animecon or comicon or scificon or something, I am bringing my monogoggle! Also I am definitely thinking of keeping my facial hair in this style, because looks awesome.

All because of science:

Okay, so what am I doing right now? Well, I flew to Rochester, New York to visit mah Benjamin :3 Woot vacation!

People kept telling me that 'onoes hurricane you don't want to go to gnu yerk!!11!1!!11' but you know what?

I've been through bad stuff before, including hurricanes, tornadoes, El Nino, blizzards, and earthquakes. Anyhow, the flight in wasn't bad at all, and now I get to spend time with my boyfriend whom I haven't seen in 4 months. Damn long distance ;_; Why must you be so cruel!

Now, on to politics:

I'm voting for Gary Johnson because a) I like his stance on a lot of important issues and b) said issues are ones that neither Romney nor Obama are willing to even acknowledge exists. Also, I hate how they forced Ron Paul out of the running, because I think Obama is ineffectual and can't keep his word, and Romney is a yes-man who can't seem to stand up for what /he/ believes in*. Having a major third party might draw enough of the vote that it encourages cooperation (to stop one of the three parties from acquiring majority power) and we could end up more balanced overall. I know Gary Johnson almost certainly won't win, but you have to play the long game. If nobody votes for someone because nobody thinks that they will win, of course they won't. Its called the tragedy of the commons. My vote is only wasted if I don't vote at all.

*I mean, honestly I could respect Obama if he would actually do what he said he would do before he got elected, but he hasn't. And I could respect Romney if he were willing to answer the damn question of what /he/ believes in, but too many times he just avoids the question, or says that he has to talk to his constituents before he can answer. Also, women full of binders, and Obama's pregnancy. Yeah :|

I now have an iPhone 5. After running an Android device for two years, I can honestly, unbiasedly say this:

Goddamnit Android get with the program!

You had so much potential, but your lack of consistency across platforms, miserable support for future versions, and the fact that the os is terribly inefficient makes me weep. I mean, Android does have benefits that iOS does not, (stuff like widgets, an open file system, etc), but jailbreaking an iPhone fixes that stuff. Jailbreaking an android doesn't make it stop sucking. :( Oh Android I had hopes and dreams.

Also, I am thinking about getting one of them wunderbar Retina Macbooks. Oh, but they are so expensiveness ;_;

Also, this:

Bam. Kit out.

I voted Johnson for the very reason you stated.

So if Romney wins because third party votes took away Obamavotes, I can blame you guys? awesome

Ferret 11 years, 6 months ago

I love how if the third party is more rational it only takes away from the democrats, really says something about republicans.

I don't know of any system where you get to vote for 2 candidates, archaic or not.

@Ferret

Actually liberatarians get votes from both sides, but this election they are worried about obama voters because of the marijuana issue.

KaBob799 11 years, 6 months ago

Ah I had heard of that before, I just didn't remember it at the time. I still wouldn't call the USA system archaic though, our biggest problems have more to do with the voters (or nonvoters) themselves.

Ferret 11 years, 6 months ago

That system sounds very nice.

Instant-runoff voting wouldn't make any difference in the US because it's so two-party anyway (although that said, Bush wouldn't have won in 2000 if there had been IRV, but considering he effectively won by ~500 votes that shouldn't be especially surprising).

that awkward moment when foreigners know more about your previous elections than you
