Unsure of if this suits a top-down or platformer better. Thoughts?

On first glance it looks like something for a top-down map, but could probably work pretty well for a platformer too.

also one of those blobs in the second image looks a lot like the France/Spain part of Europe to me for some reason

I would say top-down. You could make that some kind of bad-ass mars exploration game where you stroll around popping alien melons.

Do 3 dimensional Perlin noise, and make the 3rd dimension time. Then what genre of game could you build upon that?
