SmallGame *Story* talk

Posted by Alert Games on June 6, 2011, 11:06 p.m.

Here are some ideas that people generally liked that we should decide on, so we can work on story and gameplay ideas. :)

Type: RPG / Platformer

Setting: Roman-ish time period, but with different environments and possible different dimension as a twist.

Not too heavy on magic, but can still have some.

(Heres a previous idea)

Quote: Cyrus and Mush

Time: First Century A.D.

Place: Roman Empire (Pompeii/ Herculaneum)

Style: The story should feel adventurous and epic yet lighthearted (meta-fictional and self-referential); i.e. unpretentious.

[One idea is to have the protagonist try to prevent the volcanic eruption by fighting the Roman gods (or saving them from evil).

It will not take place in Rome. It will be a made up lands and have different enviroments, which could resemble both egytian and roman lands. The volcano will be an optional event, and not the focus of the story.

We also were starting to decide NOT to reference 64digits very much or at all. I thought the canadonian's avatar was a cool idea though…. lol

Anyway, please contribute your ideas, or critique the above ideas! Post your opinions!

Now we can talk about story ideas around this setting.

I vote for the Roman setting (and not just because I made those sprites :) )

Honestly, I don't like the Roman setting at all. Seems like it'd be full of bland enviroments, but that's just me.

Though I did like Assassin's Creed…. And that was set in Rome….

What about a little bit more modern. Like city area maybe?

The roman idea would be cool and unconventional :D

I think a bit of magic would make it pretty cool too.

We need a mix of environments.

Perhaps a fantasy world that could have run down cities to wide open, beautiful landscapes.

But the game wouldn't just be set in Rome (Pompeii, actually)… what's stopping the story from travelling to different lands, realms, or worlds?

True…

Eh, as long as we get to experience different environments, I don't mind.

I want there to be a tad bit of fantasy or science fiction.

Kind of like how Assassin's Creed has extremely accurate history and settings, but the story also has to do with aliens(or something like that, I forget).

Personally i dont like a lot of magic powers and things. I like more weapons and items to use.

My friend suggested that Egyptian setting would be more interesting than roman setting. But he also said that maybe it could combine some popular historic cultures into one.

I think it would be cool to have different environments like JID said. Maybe a game where you go through one setting, then you time travel to the next, and you try to solve the problem to stop the volcano erupting or something. A mix of settings, atmosphere, and realistic vs fantasy. Though limited magic stuff.

Does that sound pretty good?
