So I sent my friend a link to my game last night and then logged off. This morning, he logs on and tells me that after he downloaded it, he got the "My PC Protector" Virus. I know firsthand that virus is "deadly" to computers. I had to reformat my computer - so did he. Anyway, thought I would just bring this up and ask about it. I scanned my game for viruses as well - its clean. So whats the deal?

He must have gotten it from somewhere else. It's a trojan so it can be pretty sneaky. Also there are guides on how to remove it without reformatting.

He visited nothing else after downloading my game and got it immediately after downloading it. Very strange.

Maybe he got it before and didn't notice. How did you get it originally?

Like KaBob has stated, there are guides online to how to recover use of .exe extensions and then to terminate the virus. I really have that thing though, because for novices with computers; they won't be able to navigate themselves to a functional method of opening the browser.

Also, sounds like your friend is playing the blame game, not wanting to admit he got the virus himself. If you sent the file and it was clean, I see it as improbable it contained such a virus.

I got it from playing a flash-based game on an untrustworthy site. I was able to get rid of it temporarily via ctrl+alt+delete, then deleting all of its folders (we ended up finding 5 replicating folders) within about 30 seconds before it rebooted itself. Unfortunately, it still messed up my computer so I just reformatted.

I've heard other minor reports from friends about such warnings too - fire walls blocking the site itself. This one was the worst case though. Hes a pretty trustworthy friend though.
