2006: a game odyssey

To meanings for the same sentance, but I'll go with the rip off first.

Today, I decided to watch a moive. But not just any old movie, some movie older than FredFredrickson and younger than Marc Overmars. I'm talking about 2001: a space odyssey. And what a movie it was. All 2 hours of music and color, and 24 minutes of story line. After sitting through the entire movie, the thing I said right after was "What?"

For those of you who've seen it, you know what I'm talking about. For those of you who haven't seen it, basicly the end is a light show with some African chants. A light show for no real reason what so ever. And no explenation was given why Dave turned into some alien star baby at the end.

As for not related to space, PS3 came out today here in the north America. I did not go out to get one, but this I SWEAR is not opinionated.

For those of you who watched the news longer than 10 minutes this morning, news about violence out side stores. And can you guess what this violence is about? Well, you'd be dumb if you didn't know what the big deal is. PS3 causes crime! And I'm offended by the news person for calling PS3 owners "Hardcore gamers" while calling Wii owners not "hardcore gamers." But those feelings aside, it's still day 1 for the PS3 VS Wii here in NA, and I really want to see how this turns out.

In other, Game Maker news, I finaly found a use for this tank 3D model I've had for over a year. A tank game! The most thought up of games! Though I don't plan on this being a HT3D clone or any other tank game clones, so I thought up a not new title. TankWARZ (name subject to change).

Bernk, you don't know a thing about 2K1SO - you are completely clueless. It is a book. The movie came later, and doesn't explain as the book does.

Read the book.

I would if I could find it. It's suprisingly hard.

Its real easy - its in every library I've been to with the exception of tiny towns, and they always have a copy in the scifi section in bookstores - its a classic.

Arthur C Clarke is the author - there are 4 books in all, with the last one written fairly recently. Apparently, Clarke decided to put an end on the triligy, and thus the last book was born, years after the others.

I only found 2061 in the local library, which I am currently reading. A mistake to jump in with out knowing what's going on, but I managed.

Actually, 2001 makes a lot of sense, and has a very deep message. Watch it a few more times.

I'm not going to sit through another 2 hours of music and light shows.

XD Buy the book from Amazon.com - its worth it and 2061 makes much much more sense if you read the books in order.

I pity your library :(

Uhhhhhhh… no.

Read the book, then watch the movie over and over again. It's my favorite film of all time.

As SleepinJohnnyFish said, it's got a very deep meaning, and there are several interpretations. You've got to think beyond the "light show" and the "African chants". The answer is hidden deep within the storyline, and if you dismiss the storyline as only 24 minutes long, then there's no way you'll ever understand it. People like to make fun of the movie by saying that it's the only one you can watch and understand while viewing it in fast-forward… but it's not true. If you truly attempt to understand it, it'll change you somehow… for better or for worse.

Good luck. [:D]
