Charlie's Brain, Dig?

Posted by Charlie Carlo on Oct. 2, 2012, 11:41 p.m.

I thought I'd share with you all what I do in my community college classes.

The one's that aren't drawing class, specifically.

Here are my notes, taken straight from my notebook:

A bunch a' Credence Filter cyborg concepts.

Don't forget good old Tohm Shlcszark, in all his rushed anatomy.

I'm not sure what this thing is, it looks like a monster made of a human circulatory system.

Some dude with a sniper rifle, looking like a right boss.

I decided to draw a random squiggle and somehow incorporate it into a drawing. The squiggle in question is the top-left line of the beak.

Not sure what this is either, could make a cool tattoo if you're a Satanist or something, though.

Some kinda thing, maybe.

NSFW, maybe. I don't really know which vague, human concepts are threatening to the peace of mind of grannies the world over. As a rule of thumb, if it's meant to be a human, and there's skin that isn't covering phalanges or a skull, then it's NSFW.

This guy and his cryptic banter have made a few appearances; here's the better ones.

So yeah. I'm going $10,000 in debt to become better at drawing, not learn all about the Royal Standard of Ur, so I'm going to fucking draw in my classes, and not learn about the Royal Standard of Ur.

In other news, I'm going to attempt to quit smoking, for financial reasons, since my family is in a bit of a fiscal pickle. I'll tack a log of how that's going on this blog. So, if you're a psychology major, or just bored, check back here for updates concerning withdrawal and how much fun it is. I bet I'll last two hours.

1hr - Could really use a cigarette, but I don't have any. Plus it's 1am, and I should probably sleep. I'm gonna go to bed, that'll buy me a good 8 to 12 hours.

12hrs - Just woke up, it was weird not going outside to smoke. I'm currently stuffing a plain bagel into my mouth and drinking coffee. I'm having a hard time focusing and I can't tell what my body temperature is.

14hrs - Good news! I've already failed. I'll have to cut corners somewhere else. Maybe I could stop eating food.

I was going to say. The TV man immediately reminded me of Rez.

We do seem to have similar ideas pertaining to what is or is not interesting.

I think I've already said this before, but damn man, i love the style you've got going on in your sketches.

The first 3 drawings seriously reminds me of the early Ratchet and Clank games on PS2 as well as the eighth one with the demon/dragon head. it looks like some kind of boss

the ninth one is like some kind of mix between jak and daxter/borderlands/ some other game that I can't think of at the moment.

and the tv man in the chair is my favorite one out of them all, the shading on it is really good

edit: wow, ninja'd by 3 people

I have a shirt with the TV guy on it. Or, I used to. I don't think I've seen it in years.

I love they, good job.

Man, your style really interests me.

You should share more of your drawings in the future.

JID, I like all those games, I miss them. Well, the only Jak & Daxter game I've ever actually played was Jak 3, but I thought it was really cool. The first two just looked like Ratchet and Clank viewed through a carnival mirror, so I was never really interested.

Yeah; the TV head man is, really, an already established idea. I just really like it, and it doesn't seem to have any specific source so I'm fine with myself reproducing the idea.

EDIT: Thanks, Dagger, I'm sure I will.

EDITv2.0: lol Nehemek, thanks. I love your English.

yeah, Jak 3 was definitely the best one. i loved the light/dark jak transformations back when i played it. too bad it seems as though the series died out after the racing one, 'Jak X', i believe?

actually, it kinda seems that most games that originated on playstation sucked after they got a racing version of the games

eh, now i'm tempted to search around to buy Jak 3 again :(

but, yeah. i don't want this blog to get off-topic. so i'll add that the thing with the knife is probably my second favorite drawing

yeah, it seems as though quite a few people around here are having some financial troubles - myself included. it's actually been stressing me out a lot lately.

I would hate to walk into some room in a horror game, hear "I wonder what's on?", and turn to see that TV man sitting in a chair looking at me.

That said, like the drawing/shading - seems you have a good eye for toning such that important parts of characters stand out/are differentiated. Only thing bothering me is the leg-to-upper-body proportions on the two human guys with guns.

or maybe it's just their poses - seems like they're a little off-kilter
