Right, second is very good! Nice job!
The black spots on the first one are too noticeable and seem out of place.
Also, the second background(s) kills my eyes.Bmp is more detailed though Jpeg is smaller it is not used for large backgrounds.
PNG's are my personal favorites.

I liked the smaller resolution of the second one, it looks like some of the original graphite-nova is missing.
