Goodbye Sam, Goodbye Max...

Posted by Episonage on Jan. 8, 2008, 7:31 p.m.

I spent last four months without internet (i almost died), and during that torturing period, I was learning C and C++. As I had 5 years of experience with Visual Basic and Pascal, this came as a breeze, and I was soon able to unleash the full potential of C's flexibility and speed. Therefore, I've decided to stop using GM, in order to dedicate myself to C, C++. Of course, I'll still be around, downloading good games from 64D…

If I just could get as good as Game Makers help files for C++ and SDL.

Blueboyx : I wouldn't recommend VB, unless it's your first. It's slow, non-portable, and not flexible. A good point to start would probably be Java :D

stampede : C/C++ are most widely supported languages on the web (and in the known universe), just google for it. And a good book might help (it helped me). Try O'Reilly!

O RLY? I RLY should try that?

I want to do stuff in C++ too, but GM's interface is so much easier! XD

The adventages of C and C++ over GM are pretty clear. GM is a good way to learn the procedure of game making (it helps a lot) and GML is rather similar to C. C, C++ and SDL examples are all over the net, those languages (C and C++, SDL is not a language :D it's a DX/OGL wrapper) are the most supported on the net.
