Change of Plans

Hey, everyone. How's it going?

I was going to post this earlier this morning, but my blog was still one of the more recent ones.

I outlined my plans for the future in my last blog, but they have changed since then. Right now, I'll just post what I am going to be doing soon:

First off, my GM use is <b>not</b> going to end. Just go down.

Here are my current GM projects:

Eternal's RPG engine. I wrote a very basic RPG engine for Alyssa Valentine, as you may or may not know. Now, I am going to clean this up a bit, and add a lot more features, as well as commenting my code. This will probably be released in a couple weeks. It is going to pretty much be a real-time battle system, and a stat and level system.

Eternal's AI engine. This will be pretty basic, for Top Down Games, or that Isometric view that is pretty much top-down. It will be basic, but functional for a decent game. I know how it's going to work, I just need to code it. It will be finished about the time my RPG engine is, and I might make a small game using both.

Squeo. This is SOOO boring to code. I know exactly how I am going to do it, with just 2 obstacles I can think of. I will ask for help, if and when I need it. But, right now, it's so boring because I have to get it to filter out all GML functions. Do you have any idea how boring it is? I do know an alternative, but it involves text files, which could easily be edited.

You may say, "But Eternal, I thought you said you were going to be using GM a lot less!!!"

I am. This is because I am expanding my resume.

I am learning XBasic, primarily. One problem, is, though, it hasn't been updated since 2002… But anyways, I know how I am going to get a game to function, but it's going to take time. You know how people say it is so easy to do perfect collision in GM? Well, I figured out why. I know how I am going to do it in XBasic, and it's not nessesarily difficult, per say, just time consuming, and it will take a lot of time to get it perfect.

Also, I've been toying with some Scripting Languages. There is this one, in particular, called IO that sounds interesting to me. The only problem is, it is a .tar file inside of a .gz file. Now, as you probably know, I'm not the world's most techinal person. I know what a .gz is, and that WinZIP opens it, but I have no fucking clue what a .tar is. I guess it's a Tape Archive, but I don't know how to open it and use the language…

I have been learning one called PAWN. It runs on Windows, DOS, and Linux, but only on a command line. I don't see a use for it, but once again, it expands my resume.

Now, people have said "Why XBasic?" Well, first off, I am a cheap son of a bitch. It's free.

Second off, it runs on Linux and Windows. As soon as my job starts up again, (in October), I am going to save up for a Linux. I'll probably get it in December or January. One can only hope.

Of course, I'll still use Windows, and GM, just not as my primary OS and language.

So, yeah.

Any questions? Complaints? Comments about how you hate me, or how my plans will never work?

–Eternal.

Exactly. It still costs money to buy a computer, though.

LINUX! WOO!

Look, if you need any help with the terminal, ask me.

BTW, decompressing a .tar.gz or .tgz archive in Linux is as simple as -

tar -zxvf filename.tar.gz

Also, if you want free linux discs - http://www.freelinuxdisk.org/

I'm going to make Irrlicht games in Dev-C++. How hard will that be? Because I've been thinking about Java.

Eternal 17 years, 7 months ago

Not sure, haven't tried Irrlicht.

Also, Firebird, I'll be sure to ask you if I run into any problems. Do you have any Ipodlinux experience?

Firebird 17 years, 7 months ago

Hmmm, no. But it wouldn't be hard to get iPodLinux running on your iPod. If you have an older generation (< 3G) iPod then it would be even easier. Why?

Because I installed it, well, tried last night. I've got a second Generation Mini. Now it's a vegetable, just sits there with the Apple Logo o the screen. My computer won't say it's there when I plug it in, and it won't reset…
