[G] Day 1

Posted by Glen on Sept. 24, 2009, 3:51 p.m.

I think I'll start keeping a daily blog. Maybe it'll prove to be good for my health. Who knows. Either way, I need to be more active on 64D. I'm tired of browsing the GMC. So, let's get on with the news. For those who have a religious belief that all long blogs are the devil, don't read it.

Crutches

Guess what? I'm in crutches now. Oh joy, how I love to slowly walk around and almost fall on my face every time I have to go up and down stairs. I sprained my ankle last Thursday and since then have been patiently (not) waiting for things to magically fix themselves. Any advice on how to make it feel better would be nice. Parents wouldn't take me to a doctor. All I've been doing is icing it for twenty minutes at a time and keeping my foot propped up. The swelling has gone down for the most part, but it still hurts. Like I said, anyone whose had an ankle injury, I need your words of wisdom! Educate me.

Rave

So, tomorrow I was supposed to go to a rave with these three girls. But guess what? My fucking ankle has ruined those plans! Just my luck. We've been waiting for this rave for two weeks and then a stupid incident in my gym class had to ruin my fun.

School

I hate gym. I don't even need the class. I'm a senior with 22/24 credits for graduation. I could take two classes a day and go home. But no. I had to be a nerd and take seven classes to impress colleges. What is wrong with me? Although I can't complain about my 6th hour class. There's this one girl…. I'll save that for another blog.

School… how did I end up talking about school? Anyway, in Physics we're building bridges out of balsa wood. Today I had to turn in my blue prints for my bridge. I was always told that an arc bridge is the strongest type of bridge. If anyone disagrees, do tell why. I'm trying to get an A on this assignment. I plan on using steam to bend the balsa wood so I can make my arcs, and from there build triangle shaped beams for supports. Our grade depends on how much weight the bridge holds. Should be fun.

Gamemaker

All of my time has been spent on my latest project which is the expansion of Advanced Warfare 3. Yesterday I made alot of progression on the enemy ai and my ally's ai. The game is now playable and being beta tested by people.

For those of you who don't know what this project is, my last blog explains it. In short, Advanced Warfare 3 was created by Brett14 in 2008 and he released the source. I spoke to him about redoing AW3 and he agreed to let me do as I wish to the project and redistribute.

So far I have added 3d terrain to the game. The original terrain was just a flat plane with a horrible texture. Now it uses the dark region system with region support. I added realistic water that simulates light reflections very nicely. All of the models have been replaced with more detailed ones. A motion blur and bloom effect has been implemented for eye candy pleasure. I had to recode the game play and ai to fit the new 3d terrain. With that in mind, I would say that very few things are actually part of the original AW3 source. I've had to redo everything. It's the concept and name that lives on.

I plan to add grenades to the game soon. There's a destructible terrain feature which doesn't have much use at the moment. Once I add grenades, this feature will give a very nice effect with creating holes and craters.

Today I'm working on the sound system. Creating a realistic war environment can be a challenge. It's not all about listening to a hundred guns shooting at once. The original AW3 lacked sound quality. The sounds were quite annoying to me. I hope to make the gaming experience more pleasant with fluid sound effects and a better looking environment. That's what this whole revamp of AW3 was for. And on a side note, Brett14 wanted to have an example of what his Dark Region system was capable of doing. I've taken the challenge.

Well, that concludes my blog. I'll have more to say in the next one. I'm actually going to go work on my game now. Oh, and like I said, if anyone has any advise on healing ankles as soon as possible, or how to build bridges, let me know. I'd like to hear what you have to say.

Well, numbering the blogs is a good way to keep track of things. Consider yourself a genius Juju. :D

You know how retarded I would look showing up to a rave in crutches? I won't be able to do anything when I'm there. The club has a rave every two weeks or so. We might just go another time. One of the girls was sick today, so idk if we're going at all.

Do you know how COOL you would look showing up with THREE chicks? Use the crutches man. USE them.

Leyenda, huh, it's retarded. Period.

The game sounds cool (as I said in the last blog) I've always wanted to go to a rave, but none of my friends are into the music they play there so I don't see any point in going alone…

Go to one to meet people. It's nice meeting people that have the same interests as you.

Wait wait wait. How can your Senior-year physics class be doing a project that I did in grade 7?

Then do structural analysis to determine stress loading, I guess FB.
