Do you read a lot?

I like to read science fiction novels and the like from time to time. I recently started reading a book called "Spirit Gate" by Kate Elliot. First book of a four book series. Within twenty pages of the book I had figured out the situation the main characters are in and had a fair understanding of their personalities and traits. Then the main character of the first three chapters dies and follows up with a -19 years later- time lapse. I hate when that happens. My favorite character died within forty pages of the book. I still have another 680 to go… /ragequit/

The book is interesting though. I haven't read a book in years and so far I've been hooked. I'll probably finish it. Stories like this give me motivation to work on games.

Summary:

Quote:
" World Fantasy and Nebula Award finalist Kate Elliott breaks new ground in a brilliantly original new fantasy set in a unique world of fabled cities, mysterious gods, and terrible dangers. From the first page readers will be swept up in the story of Mai and Captain Anji, as they become unwitting players in a conflict that began many years earlier, and which will shake the foundations of their land.

For hundreds of years the Guardians have ruled the world of the Hundred, but these powerful gods no longer exert their will on the world. Only the reeves, who patrol on enormous eagles, still represent the Guardians' power. And the reeves are losing their authority; for there is a dark shadow across the land that not even the reeves can stop.

A group of fanatics has risen to devour villages, towns, and cities in their drive to annihilate all who oppose them. No one knows who leads them; they seem inhumanly cruel and powerful. Mai and Anji, riding with a company of dedicated warriors and a single reeve who may hold a key to stopping the deadly advance of the devouring horde, must try, or the world will be lost to the carnage. But a young woman sworn to the Goddess may prove more important than them all . . . if they are not too late.

A haunting tale of people swept up by the chaos of war, this is superlative fantasy adventure, rich in texture, filled with color and excitement, masterfully crafted by a brilliantly gifted storyteller."

Any good reads lately? I'm picky with books. I tend to like fantasy adventurous stories, whether they're a bit mainstream or out of the norm.

I like reading. I recently read some of the Halo books, they were pretty good. If I had a ton of free time I'd probably read a lot, but I'm normally too busy with friends, school, and music.

I've been following "The Last Apprentice" for the past three years now.

Other than that I have not found anything I actually enjoy reading. I used to read a lot of Sci-fi novels (Stuff published by Gotham and such.) but once you have read one star wars/trek knock off you have read them all.

I buy random books off of Amazon every two months or so, but I have yet to actually "read" anything…

I recently read a book called Fire. I can't remember who it's by, but it was pretty good. :)

I enjoy writing, but dislike reading. That has always been my dilemma.

I have a decently sized stack of books I've been meaning to finish:

No Logo by Naomi Klien, which I haven't read a word of. I think I mainly got it because it seems all the cool people on the hipster-left have it memorized. That and I'd just (at the time) finished The Shock Doctrine which was full of things everyone should know but far too few people do.

Lullaby by Chuck Palahniuk because I read Fight Club and Survivor and Haunted and my brain was exhausted from too much of

Living in the End Times by Slavoj Zizek, which I recommend to everyone ever.

Also Boomerang by Michael Lewis. I guess I could just pay more attention to the news over at Infoshop but for a very establishment guy Michael Lewis doesn't do too bad. I should probably read the rest of this one before it gets outdated.

I think the last book I actually finished was Fear and Loathing: on the Campaign Trail '72 by Hunter S. Thompson. Probably not for everyone but I thought it was fukken cool. Should be used as a textbook in high school civics classes.

tl;dr I'm a huge hipster

When I start reading a book I reaaaally like, that's basically all I do. Like any free time I get is put into getting further in that book. That being said, not many books catch my attention, since my attention-span is already freaking short..

But in recent years, I've read all the Percy Jackson books. A Warhammer 40k book or two, and right now I'm reading Halo: The Flood, which is pretty awesome.

As for favorite books I've read over and over; The Green Mile, and The Hobbit.

Ditto.

Thanks for reminding me I need to order an English version of The Hobbit before the film comes out and the cover gets ruined.

I want to read The Hobbit before the movie comes out.

I'm currently hooked on the Dresden files series by Jim Butcher.

Awesome mix of contemporary fantasy and noir detective.
