Wow, I've got a lot of work to do if I want to get a demo out by the end of the month. And I've only got about a week to do it.
Well, today was the first day in a while that I've been able to work on Night Ops. Today, I tweaked the system so that the player can die. I know what you're thinking. 'Whoop-de-freaking-doo,' or something along those lines. Well, it is a pretty big deal for me, and for the game. Why? Because I've never gotten this far on a big project before. The engine is totally set up for actual gameplay. This means I can now go straight to making the bots shoot, and then to actual game mode rules. I'm so close to making a worthwhile demo! You'll see Deathmatch in the demo for sure. Perhaps you'll also see Team Deathmatch and CTF if I can do that in time. There will be at least 2 maps, and around 10 weapons, plus frag grenades. Since buying weapons requires online functionality, you'll be able to freely pick your guns in the demo. You'll be able to play up to 15 bots at a time (the equivalent of a full server in the final game).Oh, and to make up for the lack of super-interesting content in this entry, here's a quick tip on getting motivated: tell people about your project. I don't mean announcing it on a forum or anything like that; I mean telling people you know in real life. Most people who don't know how to make games will find it at least a bit interesting. Get your friends to hound you for updates and demos. It's hard to put down a project when your friends are really looking forward to the final product.Oh, and also, does ANYONE have ANY suggestions? I'm making the game for people to play it, after all. I'm open to new ideas. I just need to hear them. Just don't suggest vehicles, please. I've already decided I'm not putting them in.
I have a suggestion, vehicles, XD. Just kidding, maybe the ability to build your own base? That would be cool.
LOL OK I MAK VEHIKALS NAO KTHXBAI (Or not…)
Base building is an interesting idea, but very difficult to smoothly implement, and a bit too Sapphire-Tears-ripoff-ish, if you know what I mean. It's not a bad idea; it's just not really suited for this type of game.Although, I did once have an idea to be able to construct turrets anywhere you want… Maybe I'll have to experiment with that.I'll beta test.
And I am usually a great idea giver, but I must know how the game works! 0_oThanks. I'll be sure to let you know when I've got something playable online.
And it looks like I'll be able to meet the deadline. I did a quick test of enemy shooting and player damage, and everything works perfectly. I'll add a new entry later today with more details.I'll BETA for Vista, I suppose, but I'm english, so timing would have to be right. I don't normally volunteer, mmm.
I didn't volunteer for Adrenaline, but I'm glad I was asked…Anyway, turrets would be cool, but how about only having one, and if it falls over, you have to pick it up again? Vehicles - no, but maybe some sort of advanced movement system? Like a temp. powerup. A 1 time use emergancy teleport would be good, if you're cornered. Thanks, and I'll let you know as well. By the way, online beta testing is still a long way away. I have to complete everything in singleplayer first.
