Doodle Blog #9452

Posted by JID on Dec. 12, 2012, 12:22 a.m.

I kind of wanted to do a doodle blog of my own, since there are already two up and i've had these sitting in my dropbox account for a little while now.

also, these are all concepts for characters for the next game i'm working on, which is a remake of an old topdown shooter i'd never finished.

These next two are unfinished, but seeing as I won't have a real pc of my own for a while, might as well share them:

^Dunno why this one's line work looks so blurry now that i've posted it.

and an extra 5 minute doodle of a random zombie, too lazy to finish it

Nothing really impressive, but, yeah. This game will be open world, using some of the coding from Fort Exile. That game was a nice little experiment for me.

I might add on to this blog or finish some of these drawings sometime in the future.

I really wish I could show some screenshots/videos for the next game i'm working on, but I'd have to install GM on this computer, and this pc is like 7 years old.

Soo, other than that, I was playing a lot of Telltale's The Walking Dead game and I beat it. Great game.

Still want to get Dishonored and Far Cry 3. Every other AAA game has disappointed me this year, in some way, other than Max Payne and Halo 4, surprisingly. Borderlands 2 was also pretty good.

tl;dr Broken PC, transitioning between diff ones for months now. Drawn some stuff, programming some stuff, played some some stuff like The Walking Dead game, Borderlands, etc. yeah, a lot of stuff

:o

Perspective on Guy #1's left arm is a bit funky, but it def looks like you've been improving. Also shadin' on the second one is naice.

I actually been thinking about getting Far Cry 3 on account of the whole open world thing. The Citra lady scares meh tho :c

yeah, i pretty much had to start over. The coding was a mess and there was way too many sprites i had to redo to continue working on it.

I code so much more efficiently now, and it'd be way too annoying to continue with that. plus the fact that i pretty much lost the .gmk for it.

i may be able to get the .gmk file back. who knows. all i have is the public alpha version for it, where i deleted all of the campaign missions to have a smaller filesize.

And about the perspective, yeah i agree, i dunno what i could do about that though. :p

But really, I'm not very happy with these drawings, since I can draw much better with paper in less time. I'd much rather do that and color them in digitally.

These drawings are great.

But I feel like I've played this game before… and it wasn't even very good.

Not to be a dick or anything, but before you start work on this game, try and add as many unique concepts as you can, make it new and awesome. You'll feel a lot better about working on it in the long-run, and you'll be less likely to get bored. Fort Exile was pretty original.

hah, thanks.

and no, you aren't being a dick, i've actually been writing A TON of notes down, I have a notebook page full of ideas, as well as a notepad file full of them and I'm excited to get to the point where i start implementing them. So, this game will feel pretty unique.

Fort Exile was a very experimental game, with a lot of things I hadn't tried before. I actually really like doing the comps, because i tend to go into new territory with some of my stuff, but it can really become exhausting after a while.

Also, I should add. I can see where you're coming from, judging from the drawings. I'd like to think it won't be a shitty run-of-the-mill post apocalyptic tds with zombies and aliens in it, based on the ideas I have so far.

I plan on working on this for around 4 to 6 months, if I'm not interrupted. I will do some smaller games here and there probably.
