Amphibian Insects?

Posted by KraZKat on Jan. 2, 2008, 2:28 a.m.

It appears that after my toads death that I realized a growth in what at first thought were mosquito larve, but looking closer I realized they were like miniture crickets, maybe aphids. But what struck me the most was these pint size creatures were amphibous. Bearing an off white color and looking more like a cricket no bigger than this line " -." They have small antennas and back legs which bare the mix of a normal beetle leg to a cricket leg. Now I was curious as if they were just walking on the water much like ants do. So I got a stick and pushed some down in the water, and they lived. Infact some of them dive and come back up on their own. I earlier splashed some on land and about an hour later realized they were still crawling. I can not identify these bugs and the closest thing I could identify them to is an aphid but aphids can not survive water that way. So if anyone has an idea to what they are it would help, but yeah, I am not sure what they are but I never really seen about 100 - 150 amphibous bugs living in one space let alone an amphibous bug.

If they were bigger, you could train them. Then all you need is some type of flying insect to complete you army of doom

No they are more crickey like, as I said aphid and micro-cricket was the closest thing I could put my finger on. And they don't have multicolors, they are almost semi-transparent and an white almost offwhite. Silverfish are awesome though. Though they do bare quiet the relation to the horrible "house centipede" And I was evil and put some in an empty tic-tac container with water and shook it up to make sure they wouldn't be walking on top, and they were all just floating through [some on top, some at the bottom, but mostly inbetween.] the water, and were slow for a little but then sprung with life in just a matter of seconds to minutes.

I took a pic, only light is the flash and a PC moniter, so yeah, anyway go find a nickel, for I use the P on a nickel to compare it to the size of this thing. Sadly it is dead/squished. So it does not look as normal but gives you the slightest idea:
