[NAL] Stuff

I'm currently at school in a study period, very much behind in all my subjects. Can't be bothered - decided to blog on a GM website instead. To write this blog I'm having to use Internet Explorer 6, I won't bother explaining any feelings about it. They're predictable.

As is a habit of mine, here's the stuff I'll talk about split in categories.

== MINDRAPE ==

New game. To my surprise, as yet on YoYo Games not reported because of the title. I heard the term used frequently in an episode of American Dad! and it stuck, so I thought about making a game that rapes the mind. It basically mixes dithering with view_angle to create headache-inducing graphics, then adds stuff like oversaturation and eventually flashing backgrounds.

Response has been mixed, although generally with extremes. YoYo Games - average. People seem to like it but are confused by it. GMArcade users appear to love it, its graphics and its generally mean intentions. Roket Games users hate its guts. It's under an average rating of 2 stars (out of 5) and has got no positive response. Main complaints from there are inability to understand the game, which I personally find retarded - you use Left/Right to turn, Up to speed up, Z to shoot and you hit the things which are obviously out to kill you.

The game can be found on YoYo Games here:

I went to a car boot sale, and found a near-mint condition Gamecube (black, not the disgusting purple thing) with two controllers and all leads for £10. Even came in original box with the setup instructions. I took that very quickly, and bought four games for it totalling £12 from another stall. The games are all fairly bad - Enter The Matrix, Spiderman (the one based off the first movie), Starsky & Hutch and Def Jam Vendetta. Stupidly I never bought a memory card for it, so have no motivation for progression in any of the games. It's in perfect working order too, and none of the controllers' sticks squeak (something my PS3 controllers cannot claim after just two years). I also bought a PS2 copy of Psychonauts, which I plan on playing when I've enough time to complete it in a few sittings.

== OTHER GM PLANS ==

Got a couple incomplete games I'm still wanting to finish (and about 500 I've abandoned).

The first is a game called Classical Castle, an arty game filled with three-colour black-grey-white graphics. Progress is made by solving riddles and puzzles. That's why the game's not progressing very quickly - I'm determined to make all puzzles as clever and unique as I can. Not one I'm going to rush.

Gamanstake 3D (working title, I hate putting "3D" into game names) is a 3D remake of a game I made three years ago. It's currently a near-topdown game with large maps you have to get through obstacles to complete. Quite a few obstacles from old Gamanstake already exist in it, as well as three levels. This is going slowly because, again, of lack of ideas. After playing through the three levels so far I've noticed the format could get repetitive very quickly, so I'm dreaming up new ideas for it, and eventually also new environments (only one at the moment is a grass-and-brick combination).

I'd post screenshots of these games, but Imageshack is blocked here. Sigh.

== MUSICAL TASTES ==

I'm currently listening to a lot of Röyksopp (especially their new album "Junior" but also a fair bit of "The Understanding"), Battles (mainly Tonto, Atlas and Race:In), and odd songs from bands like Project Pitchfork (I Live Your Dream), The New P*rnographers (Centre For Holy Wars), Fischerspooner (Emerge) and Dario G (Sunchyme).

== GMTECH/GMC ==

In Issue 16 I'll have a review for Polystyrene Man's "Another Day In The Life Of Bob". I won't say what I think of it, but since I submitted it into the GMC Cagematch you can probably guess. On that subject, I think I'm probably one of the few people to have had two games in the cage match and still have NEVER won a bout. A few months ago I lost with EverScrollingHue against Pinball Panda (only about six votes in it), then last week FKR3 lost badly to Mind Shock (which was fair enough, Mind Shock was a way better game).

Alright, that'll be enough from me. Time to look like I'm working again!

lawl. Pinball Panda? See, this is why the GMC is mostly gay. You lost to a game called Pinball Panda….what's up with that??

I liked EverScrollingHue a lot – and I like the way your games push their experimental visuals. But I think the Cage Match is all a bit random, really.
